“Totally agree. No system or tool is perfect. Businesses need to evolve to stay relevant and make money. They don’t always make every correct decision but good ones learn and adapt. If you don’t like it, there are many others. Celebrate Notion for what it is - an incredibly useful and easy-to-use tool making life easier for a lot of people.”
“I've never replied to a reddit post before, but your first two lines are literally my LIFE haha. Caffeine and blasting new sets on YT!”
“This genuinely was the most helpful comment thank you, I actually watched a video on social media of a guy saying who it annoys him when people say “it must be nice” and he went on to share how in the early days he had people owing him 100k+ and the ato empties his bank account and he went through the ringer. And it really encouraged me. We’ve got an amazing brand and so much potential, it’s just tough right now.”
“I clicked on the post expecting a bunch of negativity In the comments. It was refreshing to see encouragement. I’m in a similar boat, I have experience running a business but I know it’s not the same when it’s MY business. It’ll be a leap, but I’m looking as well. Best of luck OP”
“I feel you. My company is in that low million mark and when I need real feedback I just pay for it. I think in your position and at your success level, just leaving nuggets to help young entrepreneurs get to your level will give you a network of skilled brains later in life. I’m trying to be better about that stance myself too.”
“Redditors doing business math always make me laugh It genuinely pains me to be laughed at about business by a man who put himself $350,000 in debt making hot sauce. please, no. this is emotionally debilitating. the scorn, it is so powerful. please. there are four lights. because unless you’ve actually run or started your own business you would have a better idea of what it costs for product development Six good exits, one neutral, two bad Product development? Buddy, the last time I did fo”
“point 5 is the one that stings the most imo, its so easy to convince yourself youre being productive”
“Maybe but they’re rare. All the geniuses I’ve ever known are stuck in the system and are so engrained in the 9-5 doing what they’re doing that the thought of entrepreneurship is sickening to them. That level of unknown and likely to fail is terrifying to their sense of send That energy has them stuck”
“A tougher problem is distinguishing useful criticism from noise. Emotional regulation should not mean ignoring every negative reaction. It should mean staying calm enough to examine the substance without letting the delivery control you. A random insult tells you little. A customer explaining where they got stuck may reveal something important. Resilience is not refusing to care what anyone thinks. It is deciding carefully whose opinion matters and what evidence should change your direction.”
“Yeah, I have definitely seen this happen on Reddit. Sometimes the original gets deleted and reposted, or the OP simply does not realize it was already posted. Still, seeing the exact same post again after just a day is pretty funny.”
“We need to be careful with people that do not want to become smarter. When they behave like they just use their past knowledge for their decisions and way to work, without willingness to learn: that is a red flag.”
“The emotional regulation part is underrated. Being able to have a bad day, learn from it and still show up the next day is probably one of the most important parts of building anything long term.”
It strangely applies to both OP and the comments replying to him.
“+100 to the top 2. I often reread parts when I feel like I need some motivation or inspiration to become more proactive rather than stay passive.”
“Yeah, I agree. Emotional regulation is a non-negotiable for those in business. Everyday some new nonsense or stress test comes up. Reddit is the least of my problems given I run an event staffing agency and god know sthe stressors there!! I don't think we should completely ignore outside opinions though. Entrepreneurs stay ahead of the curve by mining as much info as possible. Perhaps the best solution is to be SELECTIVE”
“Bin noch nicht lange auf Reddit, ich verstehe aber nicht, warum dieses toxische Meinungen verbreiten, wo man gegen Verhaltensweisen von Menschen schießt als normal dargestellt wird. Dennoch finde ich diesen Post dagegen extrem gut. Danke dafür!”
The main character energy of this guy is fucking hilarious.
“criticism stings but successful founders use it to sharpen their thinking not prove points online. if a reddit post throws you this hard, you're probably not ready for actual customer pushback yet.”
“Yes and yes. A lot of businesses fail because the owner cares to much about opinions. You have to filter out what is actual constructive feedback, while knowing how to de-escalate and stay level headed. Im a woman so there are death threats and r*pe threats - men are meaner because you're smaller, women will outright try to "ruin" you via drama / lying etc. SA accusations against men who work with me is a popular method. I am a victim of actual r pe, and the amount of women who wil”
OP posts rage bait and then is surprised when they get rage. 🤷
“Most people in this sub aren’t entrepreneurs. Those that are, aren’t profitable. Those that are profitable mostly lurk.”
“Most people probably shouldn't be entrepreneurs. Most are wannapreneurs with a pitch deck and a motivational quote. And if nobody you respect has told you your idea is stupid yet, you're probably not talking to enough of the right people. IMO - an entrepreneur is the person who does all that without getting offended - because they know they're right and are going to prove it.”
“In reality, in any career field, you must stay professional. For any business you're trying to make (or even opinions you're seeking), you should stay calm, grateful, and positive. In fact, we should be thankful for positive as well for negative feedback. Because from it, we grow, change, and improve. Take for instance Mark Zuckerberg when he was being pressured in front of MILLIONS. I bet that if he had reacted, he would have lost many things. Extreme-Rub-1379 said it right: "Leave”
“100% truth buddy, I was looking for that post. Reddit can get toxic, but people here say things they wouldn't have the balls to say in real life. That "fuck you, watch me" mentality is the part I liked most in your post.”
“Honestly there's a bit of a trick baked into this, you write something designed to provoke people, then when they react you go "see, proved my point." If nobody reacted you'd say they get it, and if they do react they can't handle it, kinda unloseable for you either way.”
“Uh! First: Not a fan of that guy. That said, this framing itself is somehow oddly inspiring for me when it comes to self-care (which I am in the process of finally learning about)... why should what works for a system in the business context not work for the system that is me, in the context of demands and opportunities in my daily live? Obviously, I don't intend to turn my life into a hyper-capitalistic LARP, but when it comes to inspiration, that certainly hit some chord in me! Thanks for”
“Buddhism has an equal antithetical concept: When someone offers you a gift, and you dont accept it, to whom does it belong?”
“100%. If a random Reddit gives you an existential crisis, wait until your first chargeback dispute, a key employee quitting on launch day, or a client refusing to pay a 5-figure invoice with a smile. Emotional regulation is literally a core business metric.”
“That's wild that people were sending you angry pms. Reddit culture is so toxic now. Those people probably just don't want emotional support help from another redditor. I've seen the "I don't want your help, I don't need anyone's help and never have", attitude in real life when successful well intentioned business people tried to help struggling folks in a learning setting wanting to be successful in business and I remember hearing the same kind of advice repeate”
“They got criticized by a bunch of traditionalists who were afraid to think outside the box. Actually Bezos was just a front guy... the Internet -- even social media and e-commerce -- was quite literally planned many years in advance. I don't mean the 90s... I mean the 80s. They knew it would happen because they had agreed to make it happen. The critics were just out of the loop.”
“there's great lessons in stepping back and seeing why we have the emotional responses to the things we do. So if I can use words on a screen to elicit a reaction then theres something there”
“100% - I tell people all the time that they shouldn’t be entrepreneurs... And then everyone who comes back and tells me they did it anyway and I should fuck off becomes a friend”
“This is a huge part of why new entrepreneurs fail too. The Book Ego Is The Enemy outlines this perfectly. But it also proves OP's point, you gotta move past that and reign in your emotions to really soar.”
