Fleet Drivers Pressured to Take Out Unsafe Trucks

“Some things I've noticed over 20 years: Either lazy manufacturing or lax alignment jobs, but many trucks today have a slight pull to the right. And if there is wind or a big camber in the right lane, the pull is more than slight, and it's annoying safety hazard. Leasing…”
“My freon is leaking and I’m heading towards Las Vegas. Any advice on mechanic in Amarillo? Box truck is in question. I definitely don’t wanna do any work with parts changes people at major truck stops”
“Hi all I went around the truck yard today taking tire pressures. The lowest I’ve seen was 40psi on a trailer tire. Should I report it to my dispatch or it’s just something that could be ignored?”
Several posts highlight concerns about unsafe equipment, road conditions (sinkholes, wind), and the pressure to ignore potential hazards. Drivers express frustration with fleet management practices.

And if there is wind or a big camber in the right lane, the pull is more than slight, and it's annoying safety hazard. Leasing companies will 9/10 say it's all within spec. So short of periodically checking the pitman arm and drag link for wiggling, the company driver can't do anything. When driving in the left lane, it pulls left but not”
“Got on the freeway and had a hose blow out. Second trailer started to come around and had to punch it to straighten out. Good start to a three day weekend. submitted by /u/doctorzoidbergh [link] [comments]”

“I worked for 2 companies previously to my current “new” company. They are telling me don’t need proof I pre tripped the truck on paper, only at end of day fill out my daily report and sign I pre tripped the truck. The 2 previous companies I worked for had pre trip slips and post trip slips for end of day. My boss “googled it” because I thought he wasn’t correct about having the proper paperwork. I’m I wrong or is the company? submitted by /u/Salt-Fee-9543 [link] [comments]”

“I was driving on i-45 South somewhat close to Houston around 4am. Trucker path showed red up ahead so I started slowing down expecting stopped traffic up ahead. Once I saw flashers and brake lights up ahead, I throw on my flashers and slowly stopped to join all the stopped traffic. Everything's cool, the truck behind me stopped safely too. Then suddenly I hear a loud crashing sound behind me and I look in my mirror and see a tractor in the grassy median. I immediately called the police and t”
“Former FMCSA investigator here. I see drivers talk about this a lot, especially in smaller fleets and construction-type operations. You show up, do your pre-trip, and something is wrong. Bad tire. Lights out. Air leaks. Brake issues Fluid leaks. Steering feels off. Defect was written up yesterday but the truck is back in the lineup today. Then somebody says: “Just run it.” “It’s fine.” “We’ll fix it later.” “Nobody else complained about it.” That is where drivers need to be careful. If that truc”
