“Just wanted to show everyone my shrimp tank and was wondering if I can add a betta fish or any fish to this tank. It’s about five gallons.”
Several posts detail concerns about an overpopulation of fry (baby fish) quickly overwhelming the capacity of smaller aquariums. This highlights a common problem for breeders and hobbyists, requiring quick action to avoid harming the fish.

“I don't have a picture because they were found while tearing the tank down, but my tequila goodeid dropped her fry a few weeks ago. I looked and looked and never saw them, so I assumed they got eaten. Tonight while tearing down my 75, we found FIVE babies!!!! I am SO EXCITED!!! submitted by /u/SaeInsanity45 [link] [comments]”
“Hey guys ! One of my girl fish had babies and sadly only one was a survivor. I put him in the 10 gallon tank with my 2 mystery snails but I’m wondering how old he needs to be before I can put him back in the adult talk with his mom and dad ? The dad has a habit of eating fry so I’m worried and want to make sure he makes it! Any advice is greatly appreciated!! submitted by /u/kittymeow2342 [link] [comments]”

“I have a well established 10 gal tank with ember tetras, kuhli loaches, shrimp and multiple kinds of snails, including 2 assassin snails. We had a Betta but he just sadly passed. The combo kept our snail population in check but now I have an overpopulation of trumpet and bladder snails. What fish would you buy to help with the snails that won’t bother the shrimp? I’m seeing a lot of conflicting info out there. submitted by /u/Accurate_Survey5786 [link] [comments]”
“I have this 2.5 gallon rectangle tank, I know no fish but is putting shrimp in a stretch? Or is there anything else to put in it that will be happy? submitted by /u/Naive_Operation_9177 [link] [comments]”
“I’m pretty new to this hobby and have a heavily planted 10 gallon tank with shrimp, snails and ember tetra. There was originally 5 tetra, but they’ve multiplied to 11. I don’t want to risk too much bioload, esp with having a snail infestation. How can I prevent them from breeding? submitted by /u/Swimming-Ad-7897 [link] [comments]”
“Mods- if this is the wrong place please let me know. I have 115 gallons of freshwater tanks. 75 gallon is the largest. My 75 gallon (planted) tank has 6 discus, 12 neon tetras, 20 platys (which includes current fry), 2 narite snails and 2 coryadoras. Levels are 0-0.25 ammonia, 0 Nitrate, 0 Nitrite, 12-16 GH, 11-16 KH and 10++ phosphate. Ph runs 7.2 - 8. I use Seachem prime to dechlor. My other tanks are also planted with neo, amanos and bamboo shrimp with Guppies (breeding pair) and Beta (breedi”

“So I had (an overstocked tank) about ten platys, a bristlenose pleco, and five panda corys in my tank. Got them I want to say almost a year now. I got an angelfish because I’m a big dumb and didn’t think they’d reproduce so enthusiastically, and he takes care of any fry. Over time, the platys have sort of died off and now I just have two females. So one a55hole angelfish, two female platys who have survived power outages and some unknown something that sometimes takes out a platy at random, one”
“I have had this 10 gallon tank for 4 weeks and my nitrites have just dropped so I’m getting ready to add fish in the next week or so but I need a little help before getting fish Are my DIY plant holders okay? My plant guy gave me this hack to make plant holders with coke bottles but I’m not sure if this plastic is aquarium friendly. I took a nail file to the edges to make them as blunt as possible but still scared this won’t be enough. What fish to get? I obviously have a lidless set up going so”
“This used to be home to my betta who has sadly died. I've been struggling to figure out how to stock it and would like to hear some opinions. Something other than a betta. I worry about my options because 10gal seems to be too small for most fish according to research, plus the fact that the tank has quite a bit of open space and I worry many fish wouldn't feel comfortable. My first choice was 12+ dwarf rasboras like chilis, but I haven't been able to find them in my area. Ember tetr”
“I currently have a ten gallon tank with 3 neon tetras in it. (I had more, but, due to some bad advice, most of them ended up dying. I have learned from my mistakes, though.) I am worried that they may be getting a little bit aggressive towards each other due to a lack of tank mates, but they could also just be playing. I’m not totally sure. (I’m a beginner btw). Anyways, I am also having some algae issues, so I was wondering if a snail would be possible? And also maybe some more neons or somethi”
“My 10 gal tank, which I'm cycling rn so that's why the water is kinda brown and dirty, that I want to keep red rasboras and shrimp in. The center feels bare and idk if I should add any plants or decorations to make the tank look more alive and balanced. I have Anubis's, ferns, moss, some grass thingies, other rhizome plants that idk the names of, as well as duckweed, cholla wood, and driftwood as my tank's biolife. Pls give me advice or recommendations submitted by /u”
“I have a 10-gallon I'm completely starting from scratch on. Currently I have 6 ember tetras in my 5-gallon tank. I would like to eventually move them over to my 10-gall, add 4 more for a total of 10, then add maybe around 10-15 shrimp. I will also be adding easy growing plants, driftwood, and a few rocks. Any concerns? Is this a good amount or would this be too much for a 10-gallon? submitted by /u/EmyMarie_13 [link] [comments]”

Any other types I can give them? (I can't feed them on weekends so I'll have their fasting days be on Sunday and Saturday.) I don't want to overfeed them but I feel guilty if I don't feed them every day- I'm hoping having it written down when I should do it and how much will stop me from”
“Started this tank mid july, got the shrimp in August, and now its a bit crazy with the plants, red honey gourami, and panda corys! I haven't had a tank in so long and my girlfriend showed up one day with a 20 gallon long and told me it was time. submitted by /u/CurryGremlin [link] [comments]”
“As the title says, I have a 60-litre/15-gallon tank and is on the more heavily planted side. I currently have 9 neon tetras, 6 khuli loaches, and some amano shrimp, and assassin snails. Would getting some chili rasboras overstock the tank? I was thinking of getting around 6. Any alternatives would also be appreciated. submitted by /u/reme_rem [link] [comments]”
“so like the title says, I have a 10 gallon tank and as soon as I saw that it was cycled I kind of went overboard and overstocked my tank. This all happened within the past three days. Currently in the tank I have. Nine cherry shrimp Six panda loaches-juvenile Five clown killifish-juvenile And probably an over infestation of bladder snails because I bought plants from Petco My question is if I were to just move everything from my 10 gallon into a 29 gallon tank and just add RO water will everythi”
“I'm very happy at seeing so many fry still alive after a week but I'm now concerned about the bio load they will start having on the tank as it is only a 5 gallon. Will I have to get a new tank quite soon? I was hoping they would be ok for another couple weeks in this tank but the fry are already growing and I can see their stripes. Another concern is that even when I get a bigger tank, what's to stop them multiplying even more. Do people with mountain minnows re-home a lot of them o”
