“I've looked through a few and found them to be bare bones and/or lacking the particular sfx I am looking for. For now I'm just trying to find place holder sound effects for my game that I can toy with, later into development I may just go ahead and hire someone with experience to make them. I've always wondered where indie developers and animators get their sound effects from. submitted by /u/Towboat421 [link] [comments]”

“Curious how sound designers actually get the engine audio for games, is it mostly recorded live (mic’d on real cars), pulled from paid/stock sample libraries, or synthesized from scratch? And what sources do you use? submitted by /u/TheLancaster [link] [comments]”

“Hey everyone! I'm a composer and I've been working with music for a while, but I have basically no real experience with sound design or creating SFX. Recently, I've started getting more interested in making sound effects for games, and I'd like to actually learn the fundamentals instead of just layering random sounds until something works. I'm looking for good resources that teach things like sound selection, layering, processing, synthesis, recording/foley, and how to approa”

“Finishing touches on a simple project which even though I'm not looking to sell it, it came to me that the game has no music, and while looking at licensing I got very confused. Are there any well knows resources one could find for adding music to their games? submitted by /u/WhileOnTheToilet [link] [comments]”

“I'm working on a trailer for my upcoming game and I was wondering if I should include sound effects (guns shooting, explosions, etc) if there's music playing throughout the trailer. The whole trailer is made up of in game footage but it almost feels like the music and the sound effects are 'competing' for viewer attention (if that makes sense). Any advice is or opinions is very welcome. submitted by /u/NorthernBoy306 [link] [comments]”

“Hi, I am developing my first real game and currently I am at the point where I want to implement sounds and music. Where do you guys get these or are there some sites which you can recommend? submitted by /u/ShockFun7278 [link] [comments]”

“This is a game I've been creating, and I've always thought the sound effects I added are kinda crappy. Can you suggest me (link) some free sound effects that would be great for rolling, prize sound, jackpot sound, and button clicking? I think there should also be a separate sound for luck rolls, but I don't know what I should differentiate it with. submitted by /u/ivebeenthrushit [link] [comments]”

“Hi there, Throughout my gamedev journey, finding suitable audio has always been one of the most monotonous tasks. Whenever I need a sound for a specific event in my game, I have to go through all the audio files I’ve downloaded on my PC, while also searching through various websites for something that fits. There’s certainly no shortage of free audio available, but finding the right sound can be surprisingly time consuming. Now that AI is becoming more capable, is there a way to search for suita”

“Sound is the one subject I've been procrastinating and now I'm finally at a point where I want to polish it. My "strategy" so far was just to download whatever sounded close enough on freesound, though of course it sounds terrible when you put a bunch of disjointed sounds in the same context. If we were talking about bought art assets I could change the color pallete, the pixel size, texture resolution, etc, all in an effort to make everything look coherent. What is the equival”

“Spent a while pulling together every decent source of free game audio I could find and ended up with 22 of them: the big CC0 libraries, the Sonniss GDC bundle (hundreds of GB of pro sound effects, free, no attribution), the BBC's 33,000-clip archive, and the sfxr-family generators for making your own retro bleeps. Also covered the licence traps, because "free to download" and "free to ship" aren't the same thing and that one catches people out after launch. https://as”

“I'm making a pixelart 2D metroidvania. When it comes to choosing sound effects, is it better to use those retro sfx generated via synthethizer software (like in games such as shovel knight, mina the hollower, or any SNES era games), or should I go with more "realistic" modern SFX like in hollow knight or blasphemous? I'm seriously torn, on one hand I really like some old school sounds, they have this punch, that low bit crunch that I love, but I fear they might get stale. What&”

“Finding sound effects wasn’t my problem. The internet had already generously buried me under roughly 17,000 files. The problem was finding the right one for each of nearly 100 game events without spending the rest of my natural life listening to impact_07_final_v2.wav . So I made a local semantic search pipeline to reduce the library to a small batch of candidates worth hearing. Each sound is indexed once with the pretrained laion/clap-htsat-unfused CLAP model. It places audio and text in the sa”
