“I'm far from an expert, but I would say yes, you are right to cut out needless repetition, but you don't want to just have highlight to highlight, to highlight You do need some b roll, leading up to events of importance, even if it's just a sentence or two. I'm not familiar with…”
Several users noted that gaming video creators need to improve their presentation skills. One user specifically mentioned a lack of energy and suggested witty remarks or voiceovers to enhance engagement, drawing a comparison to successful streamers.

“Hi, im a minecraft youtuber, i started posting more arg/story type content recently. lemme know what u dislike/feel like i could change https://www.youtube.com/@BenTheOddity [re: Feedback Friday! Post your videos here if you want constructive critiques!]”
“Hypothetically, maybe your videos would perform better if you reduced the length and split the game play into small parts (when you edit it). Just something else to consider as a possible future strategy/solution...”
“I’ve been working on the game for the past 2 years but I focused too much on the graphic and atmosphere, but now I genuinely think people care more about the gameplay! ( what’s a surprise 🙃) This is just a social media video rather than some kind of YouTube trailer ; does it make relatively clear what the game is about ? submitted by /u/ImmersivGames [link] [comments]”
“https://youtu.be/TwMZh8_sa78?is=LBmKLEhfx0m715Jp Hey guys, my name is Joe and me and my friend Chris host a Let's Play channel called dpsUltra. We play mostly horror games, but also dabble in retro and non-horror too. Recently, we've been playing Silent Hill f and Resident Evil Requiem. Our style of Let's Play is more relaxed commentary with story telling and cracking jokes. In the past we have been compared to Game Grumps and OneyPlays (which we took as a huge compliment!). “You either need a better mic or speak closer to the one you're using now. All I could hear was halfway incoherent mumbling. Your game capture looked pretty decent, however. Thumbnail was fairly basic. Consider adding more text and making any characters larger so it's more eye-catching.”
“At 0:14, I completely lost track of what you're trying to say. Maybe don't combine the text with the action and what Yaku does. Instead, one text could explain Yaku's goal, and another could describe the action, while slowing down the pace of each shot.”
“I don't think it would make a big difference but since it's a game ost, why not have gameplay running in the background? + your thumbnail also has just the game logo and no other game-related element. I think having the characters or something else from the game could attract more viewers. I feel thumbnails from your other videos are really good compared to this one and they also got more views. If you don't mind, try updating the thumbnail at least.”
“The video “I FINISHED the entrance area of my Castle World!” is a really engaging update on what’s clearly a huge LEGO project. Editing: The editing is one of the strongest parts of the video. The chapters make it easy to follow, and the transitions between different stages of the build feel smooth. I especially liked that the creator showed the rebuild process instead of just jumping straight to the finished result. Seeing them go back and fix things at around 2:32 makes the final build feel mu”
https://youtu.be/QbAFZVpfqmY Hi everyone, here's one of my latest videos where I analyze Mission Stories in the Hitman World of Assassination trilogy. My goal with these is to mix analytical video essay style…
“Would love some honest feedback on my channel, been really enjoying making Zelda content and editing lately would love to get better at it. My retention is awful despite my best efforts on my own. Mantizon Any feedback is greatly appreciated”
“One of y’all told me how to basically screen record because my last video I had their hand recorded, cause I didn’t know how so yeah here’s the screen record, it came out like kind of blurry, but I hope this is like a better state than what I sent before when I was recording by hand. I would just like some feedback and maybe some tips. submitted by /u/Aggravating-Hour7825 [link] [comments]”
“I am still practicing cinematics to prepare for our first ingame cut scenes for r/TalesOfAxis . I still need some work with cutting, emotions and stuff. But what do you think? andy tipps? It is the third time I tried this cinematic. submitted by /u/Hypovision_Labs [link] [comments]”
“Okay but now you know what to do. Reduce zoom/speed effects, Adjust composition to reduce that „AI vibe“ and it could be a solid 7-8 / 10”
“this is the way tbh, separating gameplay and voiceover makes it way less stressful”
“Script it, record it, edit it, hate it, post it. The only way to get better is to fail and make sure your next video is better. Don't make anything that you wouldn't want to watch. Review your script while thinking about when you yourself would check out of a video. My videos are trash but that's ok. They will get better over time.”
“What’s good everyone! I’m the GamerCritic, I make long form gaming reviews, and opinion pieces from time to time. I don’t have much to work with but I’m making work for my right now. I released a review for a great game called REANIMAL that has not been performing well! I currently released a video recently (review on crimson desert) that’s doing AMAZING! So why did the RENAIMAL revives fail?? I would love to know how I can improve with other aspects in future videos! Here’s the link! https://yo”
“Hi there! I watched, "Trying to reach the top 100 in Gran Turismo 7 almost broke me" video and I have to say, Very well executed overall. I thought the topic was interesting though, I could be biased in that every now and again I consume a bit of sim racing content, so watching this wasn't a big ask. I enjoyed the relaxing vibes of the bg music and overall sound of the video, I guess meaning it wasn't like super high crazy energy but more just laid back and chill. The topic was”
“Mine was animated/drawn in pixel art so some of the sprites don't hold up as well as I would have liked, and I've since changed the font which many people said was hard to read 😅 Oh well, I just count it as showing how far my art has come (and hopefully will improve).”
“I do gameplay of NTE for now. I did some pal-world but I need a capture card before trying that again. I’m pretty sure I talk, but my edits just cut the parts out where I’m not”
“I mean as in talking in a way that is dry no real comments on anything like you could see something werid in the game n just have a super quiet wtf because you dont know what else to say”
“Hey everyone, I'm making this post to mostly seek some advice. About a week ago I created a new video on a fairly popular game (Sekiro) and I kept my expectations for its performance low, but somehow it's doing even worse than that lol. The video's been out for about 10 days now and has < 50 total impressions and I'm just not sure why it's that low. The video I made before it I thought was much worse at pretty much everything and yet that had way more motion than this in t”
“Thank you a lot for your message and you are right, although usually I do not like FANCY titles and promises of something ... but I do agree and understand what you're stating.”
“Hi! I really enjoy watching gameplay videos. I love that you add memes and various funny sound effects. I think to improve the video quality, you could make your voice a bit louder and lower the game sound. You could also add your reaction on camera. Good luck with your channel and its growth!”
“For starters, as the other person said, there’s so many channels with that name. Something to consider changing. Secondly, this video is quite boring. Almost all of it is a shot of you standing in a boring room with not so great audio (granted, I have heard significantly worse). Way more b-roll, and not b-roll as a tiny Picture in Picture would help. I usually like watching game dev vlogs, but also that’s because they are usually actually doing things. It’s cool to see someone iterating and tryi”
“Hi, would I please be able to ask for feedback on my long form content (gaming challenges)? In particular, I’m looking at my pacing and general content structure. I’ve been tweaking my content for months now, so my most recent videos will be the most accurate benchmark for the point I’m at so far. Thanks very much in advance. My YouTube channel is in my Reddit description. :) submitted by /u/iaball [link] [comments]”
If you'd like me to give you some feedback, you can dm me your video. I could give it a look.
“You're on the right track with the intros, but I think your videos would benefit heavily from better narratives. Try to communicate your gameplay in a way that is more entertaining. I would experiment with adding voiceover that works with the gameplay. Don't be afraid to cut stuff out if it means that the video will flow better. I resonate with you wanting to do variety content, as on my personal channel 90% of the views are railroaded to a specific game. Because of this you have to crea”
“Hey! I have been doing gaming. Let's plays for the last couple months on my new channel. And I am scripting for my first ever video game essay type video. I Lil scanned through YouTube. Trying to find videos and tutorials online on how to get like assets and the basics of putting a video like this together. Does anybody know or have found any like YouTube videos or series that go over the easiest and best ways to do these things? Or no some sort of website or masterclass I can take to learn”
“dont cut the exploration entirely, thats half the vibe of a horror game. just speed it up or trim the parts where nothing happens and youre silent. if youre talking or reacting, keep it. if youre just opening doors for 3 minutes, cut it”
“I'm far from an expert, but I would say yes, you are right to cut out needless repetition, but you don't want to just have highlight to highlight, to highlight You do need some b roll, leading up to events of importance, even if it's just a sentence or two. I'm not familiar with the game in question. So I can't give specifics, but in terms of things like combat, another mechanics, I would bring them up insofar as they are important to the video's topic or particular circu”
“Hey, I turn games into cinematic, story-driven series. I record the full playthrough first, then write it like a script and narrate over the footage in first person as the character, two episodes per series. So far I’ve done Terraria, Skyrim, RimWorld, and Bannerlord, with a Fallout: New Vegas one in production. Would love feedback on the pacing, the narration, and whether the thumbnails and titles would actually make you click: https://youtube.com/@visfilms”
“Yeah, that was me. I made my way I’m buying on the blood of DAWNWALKER thanks for watching them, my friend Ironically, I’m releasing my next video this weekend on my current game of the year which is Crimson Desert! Hopefully I can get your feedback when I drop that one either today or tomorrow! I definitely do need to work on my scripts a little more. I need to work on not repeating my phrases so much to where it becomes awkward thanks for the input man.”
“Hey everybody! I recently started getting into blender and animation and I just uploaded my first two videos in the last week. Ive linked my second video down below! I would greatly appreciate any tips on things like audio quality, and how to better package my videos, as well as general storytelling tips to make it more engaging! “Monty Oum is a hell of a name to drop, man knew how to sync action to a beat like nobody else. You're not totally screwed, but slapping a "credit to the artist" in the description does nothing legally, labels will still claim or strike you without blinking. Look into royalty-free stuff that doesn't sound like elevator music, there are tons of creators on platforms like SoundCloud or Bandcamp who make tracks specifically for animators to use with just a simple attribution licens”

“Thanks to everyone for the comments and help! (from here: Trying animated shorts to promote game : r/gamemarketing ). I redo de short of Cosmic Seance with your advice in mind, and I think it turn out pretty good. No sure if as catchy as the previous, but it seems more professional. Big thanks to everyone, please help on feedback with this one as well, never is late to learn something new! submitted by /u/smokitop [link] [comments]”
“Hello people! Started to making this ¨Shameless Self-Promotion¨ shorts with the assets already got from THE GAME to promote it. I wonder if you have experiences with something like this (I do not!). Is it too short, too big? funny enough? Hate it? love it? dont care? skiped? Any sort of advice will be taken with open arms, I will be more than happy to share results (Still didn't publish this on socials), thanks!!! submitted by /u/smokitop [link] [comments]”
“So i am MrEmeraldLee and I like to make video essays with a focus on JRPGs. My last video did well being the first video I made that went over 10k views within the first 2 weeks or so, and its largely due to the thumbnail I made. That being said im curious if the actual video itself the writing and presentation is good or if there's thing I can do to improve. Can anyone watch the first min and tell me what you think if the hook is interesting, if I was clear what the video was about, general”
“What’s good everyone! I’m the GamerCritic, I make long form gaming reviews, and opinion pieces from time to time. I don’t have much to work with but I’m making work for my right now. Recently I released a video in my Why I’m Buying Series, where I discuss the games I’m most excited for and why I’m getting it. This weeks video was on The Blood of DAWNWALKER and while it did ok…it didn’t do as well as previous vids and I need to know why! Here’s the link https://youtu.be/v11Ztx7Dwxo?is=MrLYMZZTzJY”
“Hi guys, I've been working on a game for quite some time now. I've put my soul into it, and recently showed it publicly for the first time after almost a year of hard work, but it turned out nobody really intersted in this, and, it hurts... I knew it wasn't going to go viral right away, and I didn’t expect much. I didn’t plan a big marketing campaign, but I was hoping for at least a little visibility and a feedback, because I thought it might appeal to a certain niche audience at lea”
That’s actually something I haven’t paid enough attention to. I usually think much more about the video itself than the title or thumbnail. The point about packaging makes a lot of sense…
“So I noticed that game devs typically upload shorts to market their game by showcasing some features in an educational context. I tried to copy this format, but I'm not very good at video editing/presenting myself in general. Does anyone have any tips to have my shorts like this one get more views? This one is sitting at around 1.2K views at the moment, which is not a lot compared to the shorts I typically see on my feed. submitted by /u/SubstantialMinute307 [link] [comment”
“Also if you want to try not being faceless to see if it helps (though I don’t think it’s causing you any problems) you could try going the pngtuber/vtuber avatar route. I know lots of people who are pngtubers that do videos like this and have found success”
“What’s good everyone! I’m the GamerCritic, I make long form gaming reviews, and opinion pieces from time to time. I don’t have much to work with but I’m making work for my right now. So, I recently released a video I’ve been working on for a long time! A retrospective on Batman: Arkham Asylum! After all this time, it’s finally reached a good threshold of what I would call “successful! But I’m still curious what other aspects could be improved upon for future videos! Here’s the link! https://yout”
“There is a video compiling all his critiques of the game. It even started way back in Chapter 2.”
“Videos are a bit too long and need to start with a little bit funnier moments, also maybe hone in on what's trending at the moment in the gaming space, for example instead of live streaming GTA 6 reaction, make a video breaking down the trailer, just my 2 cents I am in no way an expert.”
“I've started to take my channel a bit more seriously and wanted to do my first review for mortal shell II. Before I've only posted random video games bosses or some fun combat clips I have had in the past. I love mortismal gaming and his reviews but I don't want to copy someone's style I want my own. Does anyone know where to find non copyrighted music and know a good editing software I'm using kdenlive rn and it works very well for being free. Any and all helpful advice for”
“I actually liked the video, not much to improve in the technical aspects, i wish I knew more about JRPG's. But I guess the script can be made better for people who are not familiar with it. Maybe more about the emotions they evoke, like focus on the humanity more.”
“I really liked the video. I think the only thing that comes to mind is the border you used around yourself as you read the story seemed a little distracting due to how thick it was? It feels nitpicky to even say that though, I couldn't think of any thing else honestly.”
“i think your video is great and engaging but you have the same streamer problem ludwig covered it in his streamer uni class you lack presentation, i can understand that streaming is your main focus but the energy of a stream does not translate to video (unless you are have a god-tier editor) a simple witty remark or a transition voiceover can always improve your gaming videos i don't have anything backing my words as i have little success so i am just saying stuff based on observations anywa”
“First of all, I am not really into games. I watched your two videos, but I liked this one much better: "Every Ocarina of Time Remake Rumor: Ranked." I noticed three things: the opening is very attractive, the background music keeps changing, and in the last video, I noticed the single background music volume was a bit higher. Still, even though I'm not into games, I enjoyed your Ocarina video; it felt like storytelling animated movie to me.”
