Homeowners can't control nutsedge in their lawns

“Hello all, question from SE MA. I have a pretty bad nutsedge problem in a part of my lawn I was planning on overseeing like tomorrow. My question is: can I overseed and use sedgehammer at the same time? Or will the hammer affect germination? Thank you for your input”

“Back yard was loaded with kyllinga. Hit it with Ortho nutsedge killer (sulfentrazone) 4 days ago. Did some research after the fact and read that Sedgehammer is the gold standard for getting rid of this stuff. Does this look like my first treatment was effective? Do I even bother…”

“I would try Arkon from PBI Gordon. It is now in a a quart. If you want something granular they make Vexis. Both work great. But like anything you will be doing some follow-up applications”

“Edit* Sorry it’s actually 10B/11A. In North San Diego, lawn is all TTTF and has just been getting overrun by Yellow Nudsedge over the past couple years. No matter what I do to kill it. Tried Sedgehammer, the LawnDoctor service comes and sprays for it, but it’s just getting worse. Also have some random types of grasses in my lawn and it’s just not doing well. Wondering if I should just completely nuke the lawn and start over with TCS TTTF this fall? Also looks like my neighbors clover and the K31”

“I use Image and the nutsedge turns yellow and dies within about 48 hours. No patience needed. I add some MSO to it but that may not be a critical step - maybe just try add the MSO if it doesn't work without it and it will for sure work then. Just check the ingredients and make sure there is sulfentrazone in it, that is the sedge killer ingredient, because I think Image makes other products that may not have that in it. It also kills Kyllinga if you have that. It also has quinclorac in it whi”

“In my experience, Tenacity will injure nutsedge, but not kill it. Multiple timed applications may do the trick.”

“I need to know a cost effective ways to kill my yard. I have tried everything over the counter and nothing makes a difference. I also have devils tongue and cogon grass mixed in with the weeds and what healthy grass I have. Reality is, is I don’t want any form of a lawn, I just want it to all be dirt and then I plan to gravel it all. I’m in Florida if that makes a difference. submitted by /u/Justalilthuggish [link] [comments]”

“I bought a new house in NC. In one area that is a raised bed about 14x14 feet in area which I have thus far ignored I now recognize is infested with knee high dense nutsedge. Question - would it be effective to pull out as much of it as I can and then apply sedgehammer? Or do I just leave it as is and try to apply liberal sedgehammer to the tall grass sedge and hope it makes it way down to the base of the weed? And can I grow a ground cover there next spring (eg phlox) or will the area be too af”
