“Moved to a new home in July. Could have swore when I first got here the blades had that characteristic triangle shaped blade like nutsedge, but now that I finally ordered some sedgehammer+ I went out and found some seedheads poking out and my phone is saying this is actually…”

“This is sprouting up in a section of newly seeded lawn (TTTF). Assuming I just have to leave it alone because the seedlings cannot take herbicide and pulling makes this worse ?”

“CO; it seems to have the ridge/spine along the leaf, but doesn’t seem to have the triangular shaped stem as I roll it between my fingers.”

“Moved to a new home in July. Could have swore when I first got here the blades had that characteristic triangle shaped blade like nutsedge, but now that I finally ordered some sedgehammer+ I went out and found some seedheads poking out and my phone is saying this is actually Broomsedge Bluestem. If that's the case, then it sounds like I've got a lot more work to do on the soil rather than just getting rid of the problem weed/grass. I don't think the previous owners did much lawn care”

“Tried to kill it with glyphosate, mabye 60% success rate. It smelled of strong lime when mowed and did die off from the glyphosate but is shooting new growth back. Is it nutsedge? It doesnt grow very fast like typical nutsedge would. Its also very light green in color compared to the tttf i have. submitted by /u/Foreign_Soil61 [link] [comments]”

“My lawn is overrun with nutsedge. Should I use a product such as sedge hammer this late in the season or will it die over winter and it would be better to wait until next spring and treat it when it pops up then. Another reason I may want to wait is because I over seeded a couple weeks ago and am getting very little germination. submitted by /u/Dazzling_Western4304 [link] [comments]”

“Have been seeing these pop up all over my lawn over the past 6 months. Does this look like nutsedge? If so, is SedgeHammer my best bet? Thanks! submitted by /u/ljh78 [link] [comments]”

Sedge, probably nutsedge

“A single sprout in bark mulch. lol OP shows nutsedge spreading in a lawn. Go dig it up, examine the roots, then I’ll consider your opinion. I have mine.”

“Looks like you ripped out half the lawn just to ID it. Fair enough. Could be yellow nutsedge, those roots usually have little nutlets attached if you dig around the base. Hard to tell without seeing the blade shape up close.”

“Sedgehammer all day! I just used it last week for the first time after learning about nutsedge and how you should not pull it. Some tips. Don’t spray right after mowing, let the nutsedge grow for a couple days to really stand out. Wait for a dry day without rain in the forecast for about 24 hours. Spray a moderate amount on the leaves. They do not need to be soaked and it’s ok if it gets on the grass around the nutsedge. Wait to cut grass for an additional 2 days to allow the leaves to fully abs”

“I thought it was some type of nutsedge but halosulfuron(empero) doesn’t seem to do anything to it while killing the other variety I have growing. I’ll probably end up nuking it before I reseed this fall but I just figured it would be good to know what it is because it seems to be everywhere. I thought it was grass when we moved in because of the density but it’s clearly something else. submitted by /u/MegaRotisserie [link] [comments]”

It’s a nut seed, there’s a spray to kill the weed

“I might’ve miss-identified these, thought they’re nutsedge so used Sedgehammer but it failed to kill or even injure it, its all over the place now, help (7b) submitted by /u/ThiefOfJoy- [link] [comments]”

r/lawncareAug 24

“Are there any generic options for Sedgehammer? Sedgehammer can’t be found in SE Asia, but sadly, nutsedge can.”

r/lawncareAug 24

“You are safe to pull it. Grab around the base and it should all come up in a big clump.”

r/lawncareAug 23

“Wait I zoomed in and it doesn’t look exactly like foxtail. I’d still try quin on it”

r/lawncareAug 23

“Isn't it just foxtail? I'm not sure. Pull it out with as much if the roots as you can get.”
