Several users are struggling to eliminate dark orange rust rings left on their concrete patios after metal planters were removed. They’ve tried various cleaning methods like brushes, surface cleaners, and outdoor cleaners, but the stains persist, appearing more obvious after attempts at removal. Some suspect the rust has soaked into the concrete.

“Hello, just wondering if pretreating and post treating with SH would be able to remove these stains by the grill on my patio. Or is there another product I should use? Thanks! submitted by /u/greentheog [link] [comments]”

“My pale concrete patio now has four orange crescents exactly where metal chair legs sat during a very wet July. They are not surface dirt: scrubbing with dish soap did nothing, and a baking-soda past only made the surrounding stone look cleaner, which somehow made the marks more obvious. Things working against me: The joints between the slabs already shed sand. The surface is slightly textured, not smooth. Runoff goes into a narrow drain channel that clogs easily. I have no spare slab for testin”

“August rain left orange circles under four steel plant stands on my light grey patio pavers. The pavers are rough concrete, while the joints are sandy and already crumble a little when brushed. What I tried: Dish soap and warm water A stiff nylon brush A paste of baking soda left for twenty minutes The surface dirt lifted, but the rings didnt change. I cannot use a pressure washer because it will take more of the joints with it. Ive seen vinegar, oxalic acid, and commercial rust remover suggeste”

“Are there any retail chemical products that would be helpful in removing these stains? I’ve tried ZEP and ECOLAB, but neither have been effective. I believe the majority of these stains are from Blackstone Griddle Seasoning, which is a combination of coconut oil, soy shortening, and beeswax. submitted by /u/Fun-Turnover4059 [link] [comments]”

“I have this metal trash can that out of no where after i came back from a trip was covered in these little rust marks (i suspect my housesitter left it out in the rain or something). I was able to scrape off the majority of the rust with a wire sponge. But I continue to have these little marks. Any tips for removing? Is the metal itsslf damaged? How would i fix that? Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/stinkyallycat [link] [comments]”

“I left two bags of soil on my newish patio.. when I moved them these stains were left. I scrubbed it with awesome mold and mildew cleaner and power washed.. Dawn and then power washed, and the pink stuff spray and then power washed again.. Im not sure what to use. The power washer didn’t help even the slightest bit. Help before my husband kills me lol. submitted by /u/StephanieKrisnosky [link] [comments]”

“I removed four old metal plant stands from a light grey conrete patio after they had apparently been sitting there for several years. Under each one is a dark orange ring with a few thinner lines where the legs touched the ground. So far I have only used water, a stiff nylon brush and ordinary outdoor surface cleaner. The dirt around the rings came off, which somehow made the rust marks look even more obvious. I cannot tell whether the concrete is sealed or whether the rust has soaked into it. I”
