“I just had a Mitsu HX12NL unit installed in my garage. I live in central NC. I got it mostly for the summer months (May to Sept) and maybe a couple months in the winter to add some warmth when I'm working in the garage. I've read many times that mini splits are meant to be run 24/7/365. I see can that logic if I live in South Florida but where I'm at, I don't really need to cool from March to May or heat from Oct to Dec. Should I turn the unit off completely during those months?”

“Greetings, I am looking for suggestions on a single room 400-500 sq feet AC unit. I am on my 3rd unit in 4 years. Each over was covered by warranty but I'm sure this one will not be. Each one failed exactly 1 year after installation due to pinhole leak in the coil at solder join. Iv hit my breaking point with Frigidaire products and how quickly each one has bit the dust almost 1 year apart. Model - Friedrich PDE12K3SGR3 Any help would be appreciated. submitted by /u/Grizzel898 [l”

“So I have two mini split units, senville brand both 12,000 btu. It’s 95 degrees right now and my house is 85 degrees upstairs and 80 degrees downstairs. I genuinely don’t know what to do. I’m not sure if they are underpowered in general. It’s about an 800 sqf house roughly. Not sure if I need to remove some of the skylights, or get another unit installed or both. The skylights act as a greenhouse, they aren’t glass they are a plastic panels of sorts. This is barndominium. I’m so close to like gi”

“Located in NYC suburbs. This last winter was extremely cold. My 5 unit / 2 condenser mini split system (Midea white label called Cooper Hunter) put in by the previous owner struggles on colder days. I can’t really get my house above 66° when the outside temp is < 25°, even with some new windows. The house is ~1500sq ft but has a basement with natural gas. Option 1) replace the mini splits with a better brand and electric only system. The lines currently run through the walls. I don’t want to”

“My landlord wants to put an HVAC system in my apartment. He was saying that there will be one unit in my living room to heat and cool the entire apartment. I just wanted to see what other people have experienced with this. In previous years, I’ve had a K-1 kerosene heater in my living room that didn’t heat the apartment very well and drove my electric bill up. I would use a window ac unit during the warmer months. The k-1 heater would be removed during the installation of the heat pump. Is a hea”

Last January, both stopped working due ( I believe) to ice collecting in the bottom of the outside unit and stopping the fan. HVAC tech was able to get the downstairs unit working again, but could not revive the upstairs unit. “Hey all, We're in South Florida, and decided to get our 2 garages insulated and put in a minisplit system so we can use it as storage (was reaching >125 in the summers). I don't need them to be room temp, but getting them to <80F would be great. We reached out to a well reputed hvac installer, and he recommended one 24k btu system, one 12k btu system. I asked if we could do a 36k system with two heads instead, and he said he will do it, but strongly recommends two separate systems”

I currently have a Daikin and it's been by far the worst HVAC system I've ever had on my whole entire life. Every six months it seems to breakdown we've had valve failures had the circuit board replaced It's just been a disaster this thing is either a lemon or it's just a horrible product. I don't know. Smallish home, single story with attic & venting newish doesnt need replacing Quotes: 3 diff companies, we have 3 ton unit, they all quoted around 25k give or take a few, but no drastic change in price [we paid for a quick repair to get the system working again but its absolutely on its last legs] Our idea: to use a direct seller website to buy a new system for just a couple grand, then”

“I am looking to put in a mini split system in our Florida room. I’ve investigated and a DIY is not feasible for me. So I got a quote and waiting on 2 others. Room is 18x22 all non insulated glass windows. Morning sun from the east and all afternoon until sunset from the west. Currently running an 11,000 btu portable unit, but it runs nonstop to keep it in the low to mid 80’s . I did call Mr cool and they sized me out at 18,000 btu which is the same as the quote I got. “Hi all, In our single story house, we are having our beloved 15yr old ducted evap system removed to have a reverse cycle ducted AC installed. Our beloved flued gas heater also died in recent weeks and there are no parts available for it ... even though it was under warranty (thanks for that Bromic and Steibel Eltron). “Hi guys, I was wondering the best route to go involving a mini split system. I don’t make a lot of money and am trying to find an affordable option because my house doesn’t have central air or a furnace. I have two gas heaters that are seemingly very old and just want something for peace of mind my house won’t randomly burn down. I’ve looked into Daikin (don’t know if I can afford it), a Mr cool (I’ve heard bad things about longevity), and ACIQ and I don’t know a ton about that brand but it look”

“We are planning on buying a house(Nevada) but it only have mini splits in living room and masterbedroom as cooling. Other two bedrooms don't have any AC. All rooms have baseboard heating. Should we just add mini splits to the two bedrooms? How much would that cost? The mini splits they have in the house are Mitsubishi brand. If we convert it to central heat/air, how much would that cost for a 1450 sq ft house? Can someone also mention pros and cons of mini splits and baseboard heaters, pleas”

“I know dual hose is always the way to go all things considered, but I am looking for advice on this specific situation. We recently moved into (renting) a 1,100 sqft upper unit duplex in a 1930's house. The existing HVAC cools the entire place super well except for one single room. I just got a quote for a Carrier 37MURAQ heat pump setup with furnace, and it is coming out to the same price as a traditional Carrier condenser and furnace setup. “Hey everyone! Hoping you all can give me some thoughts/feedback regarding installing a mini-split in our garage here in Florida. We live on the east coast close to the beach so definitely close to salt air as well. I’ve been working on our garage as my labor of love for about 4 years now. It’s your typical tight 2-car garage. I’ve done pretty much everything I wanted to do to it with the final thing being a mini-split. However, I’m questioning whether the end result will be worth it. I got a quo”

“I’m currently in a 500 sq ft apartment. Maybe 8-9ft ceilings and only the bedroom is not openly connected to the living room and kitchen. I have a huge heat intolerance and cannot stand the apartment temps being over 70. I currently use a 12000btu Frigidaire window ac (non-inverter) but it’s crapped out. I was looking at the inverter ones and narrowed it down to 3. • Frigidaire 14000btu inverter https://www.bestbuy.com/product/frigidaire-700-sq-ft-14000-btu-inverter-smart-window-air-conditioner-”

“Our home is an older home in Iowa. It gets extremely hot during this time of year due to only having window/poetable ac units. Have been looking into mini splits. “Hi. My girlfriend has a 1950 sq ft home that was built starting in 1840 in Central NY (Ithaca area). It's been added on to a couple of times over the years. The house is currently heated with baseboard electric heat. Her heating bill, as you can imagine, is quite high. “Hello, I get my air conditioner serviced yearly and have had few issues. During the recent hear wave where my AC unit has been running almost non-stop, it started making a weird rattling sound. It was almost non-stop for the last two days. The AC is working just fine and kept us cool, but it is obnoxiously loud. Today, I cleaned it using coil cleaner from the inside out and now the rattling seems less persistent but still there. Also, I have an enormous cotton wood tree in my yard so I'm con”

“The video above is taken once I turned the AC back on. It blows fine and then starts that noise. Signs point to the blower assembly, bad squirrel cage, or a seized motor. “I have two Diamonte Ultra Inverter++ 120v 12K BTU mini-splits with frustrating issues. Indoor unit filters clean, outdoor units clean/clear. Units are rated to use up to 12 AMPS but I never see that power draw.
