“This seems to be my experience as well. The field I'm in requires a lot of intuition, judgment, and ingenuity. You just can't come up with a desk manual for it. Some, not all, of the younger ones that work here want to have everything in black and white with procedures for every…”
“We will only understand the greatest transfer of wealth from the lower class to the elite class a few decades on. Private equity is buying up the world. 2020 was a fast track. Why do you think Lowe's and dennys was open but your favorite local restaurant or hardware store that's…”
“I know that I need to make a pivot out of entertainment (currently work as a producer in television and digital media) but am trouble deciding what to pivot to.”
Multiple posts express anxiety about job security, particularly among Gen Z and those in industries facing disruption. Concerns include layoffs, economic hardship despite hard work, and the difficulty transitioning to new careers due to industry shifts or personal circumstances.

“Both of my kids started working for the first time in the last two years. I spoke to many fast food, starter job hiring managers leading into that phase of their lives. This is plane and simple. These online application systems overload hiring managers with one time applications. Corporations use them, the hiring managers really don’t. The person that would hire you is ignoring you and a huge stack of others. Then places that do a little better, Dutch Brothers, Chic Fil A, Fry’s Foods, Starbucks”
“> have more in common with retail workersThey did this to automotive. It was once a respected technology, and being a mechanic or factory worker was a high-paying job.Now you have Jiffy Lube and some pimply kid in a polo!PoloficationHas come for many industries...And if retail was done the same way as it was 20 years ago, some kid in a polo shirt at Office Depot would be making small business websites using ChatGPT with a 1-hour turn-around time. Pay at the register, with your printer paper. But I”
“Even if this figure was real that’s not a good number for a nation the size of the US with many people looking for work and more joining the workforce/graduating every day”

Some, not all, of the younger ones that work here want to have everything in black and white with procedures for every scenario that may be experienced.you just can't do that. I'm hopeful it will get better with experience but only time will tell.”
“Jobs pay for lifestyles, no? Then why isn't your job paying enough for anyone to have a life!”
“I'm not sure I buy all of what you've said, I have a 26yr career with only 4 jobs and no gaps until now”
“It's a gutted fi ld that had its day in the sun. With Optimus coming out: Factory workers are next.”
“We will only understand the greatest transfer of wealth from the lower class to the elite class a few decades on. Private equity is buying up the world. 2020 was a fast track. Why do you think Lowe's and dennys was open but your favorite local restaurant or hardware store that's generationally owned was closed? Eventually all those smaller outlets had to be absorbed by the larger entities”
“And so will every subsequent year until we either institutionally provision for an increasingly post-labor world, or we all starve as the already obscenely wealthy hoard all the gains from growing automation.”
“Entry-level jobs feel like the easiest targets for Al being incorporated into the workplace, and Gen Z is right in the middle of it. Are we the generation where "first jobs" barely exist anymore? Or is this just hype? My own first job ended (not really because of Al, but due to headcount cuts). Still, before I left, my team was literally developing an Al model to do what we did - probably replacing some of our duties. Some of our coworkers only did the tasks that the Al model is set to”

“I'm genuinely worried looking at how fast systematic decay is happening in every aspect of life right now and not just the job market. Wages have been stagnant for so long and COL is rising higher almost every few weeks. I graduated in May and I can tell you half my peers that graduated with me have not been able to find a job. A friend of mine told me she saw an opening at her local Target store and when she went in to apply in person (to have a better chance) they told her they're not”
“I would add that the phrase was also crafted during a time where countries had caste systems or even in Britain, the class system to relegate people to certain levels of economic attainment.”
“I am 27, I have been working in the Film Industry for 8 years after dropping out of college. I'm a Local 600 Camera/Steadicam operator at the moment and have worked on big shows/movies, small shows, commercials, broadcast sports, etc, but the industry has completely fallen apart and has not been a sustainable career for the past 2ish years. A lot of the past few years has been paycheck to paycheck. I want to pivot to something more stable, but I am struggling to choose which direction to go”
“If you’ve been laid off or have been looking for a new role in the past year, I'd be interested in hearing about your experience. Some questions I'm curious about: What has been the hardest part of the process? What feels different compared to previous job searches? Where do you experience the most uncertainty? Which part of the hiring process has been the most frustrating? Has anything gone better than you expected? If you're comfortable sharing, it would also be helpful to mention”

“Get good grades! Attend a good uni! Get a good job! Be a good worker! Get good promotions! ...then you'll most likely be able to get married, buy a house, start a family, and live out your days comfortably and prosperously. That - above - was a social contract of sorts so many Zoomers grew up trusting. And the fact that right now, it's evident that you can make all the "right" moves yet still face job loss or economic hardship means that this social contract is being actively u”
“Actually they cut 700 employees last week. No idea why its not reported on WARN or on the news.”
