Lawn owners worry about grass dying in Denver

“If you’re posting this in mid-October, I’d wait 'til spring to seed. CSU Extension puts Denver’s ideal window around mid-August to mid-September. You can still get a soil test and clear out the dead weeds now, so you have a plan instead of buying a bunch of products and hoping…”
“It's going to be nice and thick in a couple of weeks if it doesn't get too cold too fast. What happens if it gets too cold, does the grass just die? I'm in the same boat.”
“You should mow. There was a post about this yesterday I think with quality sources. Find it and read it.”
Several lawn owners are concerned about the health of their lawns, specifically experiencing dead spots and discoloration. One owner is worried about seeding due to an upcoming weather forecast.

“Never be afraid to seed in the heat. Did fescue last year with air temps over 100 and bluegrass this year with 100s all week. Tttf germinated in 3 days and the bluegrass germinated in 6”
“May want to consider some Rye if you’re looking at Oct 10th. TTTF only? I’m a little surprised it’s taken this long. Potentially over watering is all I can think of”
Funny how a 20 degree temperature drop will make grass green 😂
“I'm still holding although I'm mowing tomorrow, I know it's too long, been raining every weekend here for a month and my soil is super soft when saturated https://preview.redd.it/tku0hx9ufjqh1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63c8604a9f2245aee9675d0fc6d5ab6b1493feeb”

“Native grass… couldn’t really tell you what it actually is. Just run of the mill native Colorado pasture-looking grass, never was seeded with anything intentional until now. Though there is a patch of something that seems to love the environment without me doing absolutely anything to it… not sure if this is fine fescue? https://preview.redd.it/oaoamzsf6sph1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac617282898fb6e2a9ca97c1b57722e7f6cc3b65”
“I followed the restricted watering rules set forth by the City of Denver and I have two areas (see pics) which my misters didn’t cover enough and I have dead grass and (I think) some weeds coming up? I don’t have a green thumb but would like to repair these two areas myself. Now that’s it’s going to be cooler, can anyone here advise me on what to do? “I saw you guys getting pounded last night on the radar and was so jealous. We’ve gotten just over an inch total in the last 7 weeks. But yeah seed timing can be a bitch.”
“Same boat. Put $350 of KBG on August 24, and no results yet. Aerated lawn 3 days prior to overseed. Watering 5 times every day since 8/24, about 5 minutes each zone per water cycle.”
“Zone 6b and overseeding KBG. Can I overseed this weekend? submitted by /u/throwaway7827821 [link] [comments]”
“I’m just waiting for the temps to break so I can get things going. It’s still in the 90s in Colorado Springs. They should break this next weekend.”
“Seeded last weekend based on Denver’s lawn watering ban starting Oct. 1st. I think it’s a “green light, go” situation.”
“Denver weather is weird. You can be freezing your asses off mid-to-late October and wearing t-shirts in December.”
“I made a rookie mistake of applying same day. My tall fescue that was established took off. I had to mow today. Day 7 germination. I raised my mower all the way up and had to stay away from a couple of spots. My advice is to wait till you see germination and then fertilize. And I used a starter fertilizer. https://a.co/d/06ZTbbKN”
“Looking for advice as summer is coming to an end. I pretty much neglected my lawn this season due to personal circumstances and weeds have just taken over. Is there anything I can and should do now to set my lawn up for success next season? Or are there things I can do to salvage the lawn for the remainder of summer? I’ve been pulling weeds all weekend and I feel like it’s not making a difference. Let me know what I should be doing. Thank you! submitted by /u/uniquepancakebacon [link”
“Overseeded with TTTF/KBG (blue resilience) last Saturday night 8/22, ~8pm. It is now Saturday 8/29, 3pm. Mowed to 1.5”, raked up clippings and raked out dead areas, applied roughly 3/8” top soil (screened at 1/4”) to dead areas, leveled, threw down seed and starter fert, and gently raked seed into top soil, watered in fert. Been watering 5 x 0.05” per day since. Air temps have been 65-75F, occasionally touching 80. Starting to see a few sprouts here and there, but overall the soil still looks ve”
“Denver Water just passed a resolution to completely ban all sprinklers effective 10/1. I just bought a 50lb bag of seed from Twin City for my overseed project that I was going to start in a few weeks. If I keep it stored in a cool dry area will it be ok for next year when we hopefully aren’t in drought conditions? Alternatively considering throwing seed down every few weeks throughout fall and winter and hopefully some takes in Spring? submitted by /u/kyleunderwood247 [link] [c”
“I'm the neighbor this year. Too unreasonably hot. Grass is just doing whatever it does”
“No but, with the recent slightly cooler days, the same thing has still happened this past week or two. My point is, looking at Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday forecast, might as well consider they will likely bump it up to mid 90s vs high 80s.”
“I was going to mix Jonathon green, Texas blue, and clover. Not trying to buy high dollar seeds again. I’m having serious doubts on the future of nice grass lawns in this area. Everyone on Reddit Denver is like plant natives and pollen friendly. I think those yards are ugly personally, I’d rather have dirt and low natural weeds then half these over grown pollinator lawns people claim are beautiful”
“They have literally been saying cool weather in 3 days for the last 45 days…. Then extending the heat wave another 3 days every time.”
“Forecasts have wavered a bit on rain and temps, I’d like to get the seed down but I’m have some anxiety. Any opinions? submitted by /u/PapaSwagBear [link] [comments]”

“I just had 35lbs of Twin City Blue Resilience delivered. For those who have previously overseeded with this mix too, when did you do your fall overseeding? I feel like it’s still too hot in Denver.. What’s the max day time temperature you would be comfortable with on the forecast? Labor Day is 9/7 but that sounds just a little late? I know Blue Resilience has 10% KBG so I’m worried none of the KBG will germinate and fully establish by the time our average first frost comes around in early Octobe”
