Plumbers fret about crooked pipe installations

Multiple plumbers express concern about the straightness of pipe installations. One user points out a 'crooked' trap adapter, advising the use of a level during installation. Another user acknowledges a crooked appearance in a photo, attributing it to an unknown reason.

“Replacing a lead bend. Inner part of the masking tape is the 3" mark of the pipe. Is this good? submitted by /u/manolid [link] [comments]”

“It works but I can always cut the trap arm back. It’s less than 180 but u would need a clean out it it had one more turn. [re: Is this drain set up correctly?]”

“It sure looks to me like that trap adapter can move more than an inch closer to the wall. Flip your trap the right way. Get a longer tailpiece. [re: P Trap Help]”

“to do it the right way remove the trap, then using a fine tooth saw cut the pipe that is coming out of the wall back closer to the wall and glue on a new trap adapter. Get clear pvc primer and glue just in case you spill it then it is not as big of a deal as if it was purple. Otherwise sometimes chrome P traps are a little closer Center to Center measurement but it should not be a big deal to move that trap after closer to the wall. [re: P Trap Help]”

“Everything before ~9'5" has been solidly backed up. You can tell the pipe gets noticeably cleaner after ~13'. I'd suspect that misaligned joint followed by those bends has been prone to clogging in the past. [re: Sewer Line Recommendations]”

“I know I’m doing things a little out of order but I wanted to test the drain lines before I patch the wall back up on the other side. Will probably have to add a 22° to kick the tall piece more center when the sink gets delivered. Basement instillation. AAv is allowed. And should be plenty high. Haven’t glued it in in case it needs lowered. Gonna see how she drains. submitted by /u/topical_anecdote [link] [comments]”

“It's all wrong, the pipe is all upside down. Can you retake the pictures standing the right way up this time? [re: Felt like doing some bending and brazing]”

“Also about to T joint connect another branch from the manhole you see at the beginning of the video, to that pipe below. Appreciate your expert opinion! submitted by /u/2candiesnahalf [link] [comments]”

“Details details....is there any kind of issue at all with the lineset into a swage union being off axis at the valve? poor seating, deforming, brazing getting into the line? Trying to learn. I know it's a soft metal, and I've seen some nasty pics on here, or all things being equal on an new install with easy access, it just looks off. few pictures to illustrate... submitted by /u/Karnaka12 [link] [comments]”

“If the trap arm has got threads on the end connected to the j bend, just swap out the j bend for a captive nut style. In brass. Get an double offset slip joint extension and get rid of the flex pipe, cut it to make the run from the tailpiece to the j bend inlet. Or get a straight double slip joint extension and a couple slip joint 45s and do the same thing. [re: Help me Frankenstein a P-trap properly]”

“I think I’m over complicating this, but a tip could help me to stop :) . So usually I don’t bend weird angles but I’m in a riser room in a weird freaking spot . The green is the pipe I need to bend. I’m bringing two over in the same path. This is just a. Top down view obviously not to scale 👁️👄👁️. How would I determine the bend angles plus distances? Seems like a reverse offset type of bend. I was gonna kinda just eye ball one untill I got it then match it with another but if anyone has a for”

“its actually not as crooked as it looks in the pic. No idea why. But yup, thats the plan.”

“Use a level when you glue it up. I can tell that trap adapter is crooked as FUUUUUCK. Straighten your 45’s and trap up and send it.”
