“Second pass on this little arctic porthole scene this morning. All I have left on this one is to add a couple polar bears and some final details here and there. 11” oil on linen panel. This will be mounted in a porthole once complete.”

“Here is the final painting and I'm pretty happy with the results. Hopefully you guys enjoy it too.”

Multiple painters discuss the challenge of resisting the urge to add excessive detail to their artwork, particularly in landscapes and portraits. They acknowledge the temptation to refine and enhance the details but ultimately prioritize a more impressionistic or simplified style to achieve a desired aesthetic.

“A mixed media painting. A base of acrylic and a finish with oil pastels. I enjoyed making it. Always get a warm feeling when looking at the sunset glow. submitted by /u/Squire_Dammit [link] [comments]”

“This is my cat based off a reference photo I took of her last year. She was by the window and the lighting was so warm and bright. I try to use my brushstrokes to simluate fur texture without going all out. Critique is very welcome. Do you think my style works, or is there anything I can do to push it further? submitted by /u/UbiquitousChicken [link] [comments]”

“Sunset cliffs, at sunset! Imagine that. Tempted into extended refinement, but my cut line is the 6 ft viewing distance, or colloquially the 20,000 ft view. In such a detail heavy piece, and the subject itself being riddled with detail, I resisted the urge to pump more detail in an already overloaded subject. Happy with the result, as I drive this train deeper into the cave of impressionism. submitted by /u/Slushfund_Underwritr [link] [comments]”
