“My daughter (8) has turned into a bedtime worrier and I genuinely don't know if what I'm doing is helping or just a lucky fluke. Basically once the lights are off, the "what ifs" start. What if you die, what if something happens to the house, what if I get sick and can't take…”
“Does anyone else have a kid who tries to parent other kids? Like my oldest (8m) will try to set consequences for his younger bother (6m) in stuff that he shouldn’t be doing. It’s so annoying I have to keep reminding him he is not the parent and has no business punishing his…”
“My four year old has become a big fan of the word no and arguing when asked/told to do something, especially if it has to do with her dad. (I’m the preferred parent BIG TIME, that’s a whole other issue.) What I don’t know how to do is fight and fix the behavior. I realize that…”

“My oldest is 6. I feel like I am constantly telling him to please think before you do something. For example, the reason why I’m finally reaching out for help, I told him please go to the playroom right now, you and brother are being…”
“Some days it’s literally feels like everything is difficult We’ve tried every tip in the book how to talk so kids listen and it helps so much but it’s still hard. What age do they finally start being more cooperative? submitted by /u/NeoclassicalPianist [link] [comments]”
“Good day all! My son is just about to turn 5, and he's in kindergarten. We've tried the whole gentle parenting thing and here are some things we've encouuntered: During meal times, he's very combative and always says he's not hungry. During lunch in kindergarten, he fully skips lunch altogether. We've tried giving him the limited choice thing of "It's dinner time, do you want me to help you sit on your chair or can you do it on your own? Would you like to use the”
“My wife and I are at our wit's end, and it is causing problems between us. Our 4 yr old will not follow instructions, regardless of our approach. For example, my wife is trying to take our daughter to the mall to get her a new outfit and lunchbag for her first day of school. It's supposed to be a fun day. But as usual, my daughter is not listening when it's time to brush her hair/teeth, get dressed etc. She'll get up and walk away, turn her head when we are brushing her teeth, ma”
“Looking for book recommendations on parenting. Specifically discipline. My daughter is 15 months and ahe definitely is choosing to listen sometimes, and ignore us at other times. I think shes almost at the age where we can start disciplining her. Looking for book recommendations that incorporate child psychology. NOT into gentle parenting styles. Moreso want to understand how their little brain works and how i should be taking to her so that she can listen and understand me. submitted by &”
“*Parenting not “parents” 4 almost 5 y/o boy is struggling with listening. Sometimes he completely ignores us acting like he can’t hear us. Typically a great listener at preschool but of course there have been moments here and there. Monday was a bad day. He shouted at his teacher that he didn’t want to listen. Me and his dad/my husband were really upset he behaved that way. Dad got angry and said we’re not going to the beach this weekend anymore Because dad and I did not get to sidebar with each”
“Im at my wits end with my 5.5 year old boy. I don’t like using this word but he is naughty. He lies, he doesn’t listen, he sometimes does as he’s told but if you tell him off for not listening (as an example, my husband tells him he can play the drums but must close the door and keep the black pad on, and he doesn’t do it) he just smirks and laughs, and if you ask him to apologise he throws the biggest tantrum and runs to his bedroom. There is no consequence big enough for him to stop acting lik”
“I understand that children testing boundaries is normal. But at what point is it too much? I am struggling bad. My children (4 and 3) barely listen to me. It will be simple things like “time to put our shoes on” or “let’s walk in the house” and they do the complete opposite. What am I doing wrong? Doing tasks is so hard because I’m constantly repeating myself. I’ve tried transitions, I’ve tried making it fun, I’ve tried being stern, I’ve tried eliminating distractions and I’m still getting the s”
“My boy has always been a wiggly one, just doesn’t like to sit still. We had a very brief time frame where he would chill out for story time but that’s been long gone. Since he could crawl he would crawl all over the bed and now that he can walk he’s always trying to get off the bed to go play. Do we just accept it and let them play during story time? If you’ve successfully gotten a constant wiggler to chill out for story time what did you do? submitted by /u/Calieahrens [link]”
“Something like "How we say I love you" or books that focus on trying your best and helping clean the house, ect. I really loved the book and how it focused on everyone trying their best and doing their part. Any recommendations that your child liked? submitted by /u/weighingthelife [link] [comments]”
“There have been times when my child gets inspired to draw (read: I didn't even suggest it first) and says, "I want to draw [something, like a tiger]." I'll say, 'Okay, that sounds like a great idea! I'll get you some paper." However he immediately usually goes, "Can you help me?" So here's where I generally try to suggest him to figure it out on his own, and ask questions such as, "What shape do you think you could use for the head/body? What sha”
“Hello all. My 3 year old son has been exploring his body for a while now, as many children his age do. I'm beginning to feel a little frustrated at the fact that it has gotten to the point that if I leave him unattended for 5 minutes or longer, I come back to him totally naked touching his junk. Sometimes we'll be sitting together watching something and I'll look over and he's just got the front of his bottoms pulled down and he's touching himself. He does it when eating, whi”
“I don't know what to do anymore with my 3 (nearly 4) year old. He can be kind, and calm, and curious. He loves to read and run and jump and play. But he can also be very mean and aggressive, and seems to get joy out of making his older brother yell. Example of the first two hours of our morning: I spent some time with just 4yo for a bit until 6yo woke up, at which point 4yo immediately started to act out a bit. He requested some "alone time with mummy" and when I told him we could”
“I'm losing my mind here and could use some advice. This concerns my older two boys 5M and 3M. They're individually very well behaved, the normal hiccups with young kids but all in all they're great. I just have no idea what to do about their behavior problems when they're together. They very much feed into each other's energy and hype each other up and then all listening goes right out the window. Today I had the two of them running around the house, hiding from me when I was”
“I spoken to my daughter my times about exploring herself. But it is getting out of hand now to wear she is lying about and I am catching in the acts. This is something that she has been doing on on ,/off since about 3 years old. She informed me that no one has done anything to her . I have tried discipline her , speaking to her , explaining to her and she still continues. She has also had because daycare teachers when she was younger explain to her as well. This is really not a behavior I want t”

What if you die, what if something happens to the house, what if I get sick and can't take care of her — that kind of thing. I answer one and another one is right behind it. Some nights we're at this for close to an hour and I'm running out of calm, reassuring things to say. A few ni”
“Hey fellow dads, Dad of two here, a 5yo and more recently 3mo. My 5 year old has become really challenging in the last year. At home hes become really rude and any type of listening has completely gone out the window. He's rude to us, doesn't have any manners at all and won't do anything we ask him to do. He's bossy and he tests us at every corner. Every bedtime is a challenge. However, his teachers tell us he's a great listener and super helpful and kind in the classroom. I”
“My son is almost 5 and his behavior is just not okay. I can’t tell if this is normal or if it’s something we need to truly get a grip on. We tell him to do something and he is so defiant to where something so simple like pick up your socks or say thank you escalates to something so extreme like repeatedly telling us no, thinking we’re joking, refusing to go into timeout. We take his toys, ground him from TV time, but he doesn’t take me seriously whatsoever. Today he got so upset with me he told”
“Hey Daddit, I'm coming to you all to get some advice on how to best help my ADHD 10 year old to graduate from graphic novels to harder and complex literature. She's a wonderful child who shares my love of fantasy, anime, and sci fi. Earlier this year I started reading Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere and I think Mistborn is a perfect book for her to read. She is perfectly capable but 6 chapters in and she has admitted she's having a hard time focusing and remembering the information.”
“I need advice here, it’s been about a month and I am at a loss. Hi friends - my son A is 5 years old and he’s a happy, normal boy. Both parents live at home and work from home, and he’s thriving at school. He has two younger sisters - 3 year old P and 9 month old W. Recently, A has become frustratingly prone to smacking P, and nobody else. Whenever he’s frustrated or angry at her (they play together a lot and have the same friends), her just hits her. She never hits back, just cries. I’ve tried”
“Well need some input, didn’t start actively reading to my baby till about he is 15 months old and feel it’s late. Now he is 18 he say few words. I talk two languages and have books in two languages. see people saying their kids know how to read by age of two is that correct ? So my question is there way to develop him fast to overcome that I didn’t read for him. And if there is any kids teachers did you notice the difference between kids who their parents read for them and the once who didn’t ?”
“We've got a 4 year old boy and a 7 month old girl. Our oldest in general is a pretty well behaved and nice boy. We accept that he's at the age where he wants to push boundaries and not blindly do what he's told, and we're also very aware that having a newish baby in the house is a fair disruption for him, but me and his mum feel at our wits end when dealing with bedtime. I think we have a decent routine for it. No screens at least half an hour before bed, ideally a little longer.”
“I’m really not good at typing things out but I’m going to try my best. Sorry in advance for poor grammar. I’m a father of two girls, a 5 year old and a 1 Year old. Here for the last 2 years my oldest has been having increasing behavioral problems. She lacks emotional regulation and doesn’t understand boundaries. There are days where I’ll tell her no to something and she blows up, I do my best to stay calm and try and be an example of how she should act, I’ll try and talk her through her feelings”

(I’m the preferred parent BIG TIME, that’s a whole other issue.) What I don’t know how to do is fight and fix the behavior. I realize that the solution is to make her.. but how? An example we fight with every night just about - if I tell her it’s teeth brushing time, she’ll say no and run down the hall. I have picked her up and carried her back but she’s off”
“My oldest son will be 9 in October. He recently has decided he doesn't want to brush his teeth or take a shower. He will go in the bathroom and just not do anything. Sometimes, he will get his body wet in the shower so he technically "took a shower", but never actually uses soap to get clean. It's to the point where I have to do it for him, and he will fight me on it because he wants to "be left alone and do it himself" (which I've tried many times and he's ne”
“My son (3.5) is in a major not listening phase. We can tell him something and then a minute later he's doing exactly what we just said not to do. Or he will ask something, get an answer, and if it's not the answer he wanted he will ask again, and again, and again. I also have a baby, so I can't always be right on top of him. For example, yesterday he was on my bed while I was getting ready to leave the house. Baby is on the floor. He asks if he can jump off my bed. Husband says "”

“Obviously this is something that my wife and I created and we have to contend with that, but I am looking for advice. I have an 8-year-old daughter, my oldest, who shuts down if we ask her to help clean. It can be as simple as "hey, you left a dirty dish in the living room, please put it in the sink" all the way to "would you mind helping us vacuum and dust before the guests show up?" A lot of what we ask of her pushes her to her limit, no matter how minor, and we end up deal”
“Monday through Friday, dragging them out of bed is like trying to wake a hibernating bear. But Saturday morning? The sun isn't even up, my alarm isn't set, and suddenly they are standing over my face, breathing heavily, asking if frogs have ears. Why do they hate sleep only when we desperately need it? submitted by /u/imikeg [link] [comments]”
“hello, for about a year or two, our 6yo has been allowed to visit their friends in the neighbourhood. We bought them a kids smart watch, so we can call them to let them know that it's time to come home. It's been good. But lately when we call they will just ignore us, lie, or simply refuse to comply with our instruction to come home. Obviously they're testing the boundaries, normal behavior I guess. We gave a stern warning, come home when asked or there will be consequences. I warned”
“Is there a regression or growth spurt around 4 that I was not made aware of? My son's been potty trained for a while now. He had something similar about 6 months ago where he peed himself for a whole week if he napped but we figured out it was because he refused to pee before nap and just acted like he did. Now the past two nights hes peed himself and woke up afterwards causes hes wet. Dr doesn't think it's a uti hes not peeing more during the day, not having accidents during the day”
“My daughter who is 6 has been crying every day for the past month saying she does not feel good. She says she won’t eat or drink water, doesn’t want to do anything but lay in her bed. She is not sick, she will have days where she is completely fine and eating followed by days of what seems to be just plain sad. Does not want to go on vacation, movies, arcade, shopping, beach, nothing. It started a few months ago not wanting to go to school (which I thought was just a phase, I never liked school”
