Multiple parents are frustrated by their children’s excessive volume. One parent describes a five-year-old daughter who is consistently loud, even indoors, and another mentions a toddler whose voice carries across significant distances.

“No amount of reading, research, or availing myself of anecdotal advice prepared me for my three-year-old running around singing at the top of his voice “She bangs, she bangs! Oh baby mnmm. She moos, she moos!” submitted by /u/P382 [link] [comments]”

“My daughter is two and a half, my wife and i love music of all genres and it’s a big part of our relationship. So naturally, our daughter hears all kinds of stuff. She already loves the classics like Prince, Queen, ABBA, all the great schmaltzy classic rock and pop hits of the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, but recently it’s taken a turn toward some niche subgenres. Again, this isn’t lyrical content. I’ve weeded out most songs that have overt swear words or heavy subject matter from any playlists or albums”

“I’m a SAHM to an almost 3 year old and a 3 month old baby, and I find myself constantly having to ask our older son to please lower his volume or to take it easy on the toy-smashing. Sometimes he complies, but if you have a toddler, you know that keeping their volume to a certain level at all times is near impossible. The loudness overstimulates ME at times, so I know it’s got to be a lot for our baby. More than overstimulation though, I’m worried about the potential for long-term damage to baby”

“Does anyone have any experience with a decibel meter for the kids? Basically a visual way for them to see that they are getting too noisy? Before anyone gets too worked up, let me give the context of the situation. Winter is coming (we average -30 when it's in full swing), and it will be harder to keep the 3 kids occupied indoors and their volume at a reasonable level. The reason we need volume to be kept lower is because Mom works overnights and needs to sleep during the day on Sundays and”

“Hi all! Just looking for advice or insight. At what age did your toddler consistently start listening? We’ve been numerous times now that our 20 month old had a bad day at school because she was being a poor listener. It’s kind of defeating when the people she spends all day with only have negative things to say 🥺 How do we work on listening skills at home? She does pretty good with us (or so we thought). Is this something she will just continue to acquire as she ages? submitted by”

“Hello, Wife and I are debating if we should take our two and half year old to a toddler rave. It looks fun but I am afraid the loud music could overstimulate. For background, my toddler loves music, not just nursery rhymes. Whether he is in our car or at home, he’ll ask us to play music and start dancing. I listen to house/EDM/Hiphop and occasionally play that when he is around. Has anyone been to a Lenny Pearce show with a toddler? How was your experience? Thanks submitted by /u/cri”

“I’ve seen the research on having the TV on as background noise and how talking over it/crosstalk can be confusing for infants and their language development. Luckily my family is not doesn’t keep the tv playing, but we do often play music (both kids music and ours). My daughter is 6 months old. I’m curious, if there’s music playing and my husband and I are having a conversation or I’m talking to my daughter, should I pause it? Does the same logic follow as television, or does music use a differe”

“The walls here lack any sound proofing and aside from conversations heard verbatim through the wall, the couple in the adjacent unit practice soft parenting. Their toddler screams like this every day (and/or night, unpredictably occurring at any time around the clock… including many times in the middle of the night). There are countless additional (much longer) recordings that are more intense and some that show the parents enabling the screaming. Every attempt to ”politely” resolve this has bee”

“We were driving home from the grocery store yesterday afternoon. Out of absolute nowhere, my three-year-old son starts sobbing in his car seat, screaming that he needs to hear "The Orange Monkey Dump Truck song." I had no idea what he was talking about. i pulled up Spotify at a red light and searched every conceivable combination. Dump truck monkey. Monkey in orange truck. Construction monkeys. Nothing. I played five different tracks, and with every single song that started, he screame”

“My 7 year old son won't shut up. Like, at all moments he needs to be making a sound, be it words, songs, noises, repeated phrases. It's just non-stop. I call it Mic Spam from online gaming, but it goes by a lot of names. We tried to play Lego Jungle Madness boardgame earlier and I had to walk away because he took up all the audible space in the room and it was too overstimulating. It can be my problem and I accept maybe I'm oversensitive, but I cannot find a way to communicate to him”

“Does anyone else have a kid that you could easily hear from across a football field even if there was a game going on? I'm convinced my eldest (5y/o) is the loudest child in our town. We are constantly hushing her almost all the time. If she's awake she's loud. She speaks at a volume that make the neighbours wonder if she's talking to them. Then when she gets excited about something the windows shake in the house. We have tried calmly saying "inside voice please" and &q”

“We're very into music in our household. I was showing my daughter how to cue a record on the turntable at four years old. She knows what a cassette is...a CD, etc. But yes, she also has her own Spotify account that she listens through bookshelf speakers we built together when she was six. When she was 2-5-ish there were always festivals with folkish-sounding performers over-annunciating kids songs with a bubble machine off to the side somewhere. If it makes the kids happy, I'm all for it”
