“It’s not a vent blockage it’s the actual main drain line, probably going from your house to the sewer or tank if you’re on septic. You need to stop using water and call a plumber. [re: Wtf is happening to my basement toilet]”

“I'm on a septic system. When I do laundry I get bubbling in my toilet. Then for a couple of days my toilet flushes slow. Everything else in my house is draining fine. It also seems that when it rains my toilet flushes slow. Had my tank pumped 3 years ago.”

Plumbers are dealing with septic tank maintenance problems, concerns about condensation drain tie-ins, copper pipe corrosion, and accidental damage to ABS plumbing vents. These issues highlight the challenges of working in older homes and maintaining proper drainage systems.

“Last night, while the shower was running, we had water coming into the basement from where a flexible tube enters a PVC pipe and runs to our primary drain, a 4 inch PVC pipe that exits through the foundations to our single chamber septic tank. I could tell the blockage is past where all of the household drains come to the main, so I opened the clean out (opposite the final run to the baffle inside the tank). I see no obvious obstructions, just some sludginess, so I am assuming the vertical baffl”

“Septic system Locate the Septic Tank - Locate the clean out hatches on the septic tank, there is one on each end, and there is a baffle on each end. Have the tank pumped, make sure they pump each end of the tank, and they inspect the baffles. When all of that is open take lots of pictures. Well pump Locate the well - Locate the well tank - Locate the breaker and the switch for the well pump, make sure it's marked - locate the valve on the well tank that shuts off the water to the house, if y”

“Hi, we're rerouting condensate hose from floor drain to sump pump. Hose from above is from non existent humidifier and new hose on bottom is from AC coil. I'm assuming connection to furnace vent pipe is to collect condensate from furnace in winter. If i were to install t barb for venting in condensate hose would it be before or after shown black t junction? submitted by /u/xxes4eyes [link] [comments]”

“This is an upstairs drain in a bathroom used solely by teens. It is completely clogging roughly every 6 - 8 months with some pretty foul mung. I believe but am not sure that the black hose is an AC condensate drain. The section of piping where the drain attaches has a piece to block the sink drains from flowing into the black drain, but it significantly restricts flow in the pipe to probably half. I've got my doing like 10 second flushes every time they brush their teeth, but we're proba”

“My main sewer/drain pipe will be completely empty one day, and then 1–2 days later it’s full again and starts causing water to back up into the house. For example, it was empty on Friday. Today (Saturday), someone took a shower in the bathroom and it immediately started backing up into that shower. When I took the cap off the main drain, it was overflowing/full. It also seems to happen specifically when this bathroom is being used — either the toilet or the shower. The bathroom is pretty close t”

“I just bought this house about 4 months ago and am learning about it. I’ve never seen an ac condensate line like this before. I usually could hear the ac line / air at the sink drain and this morning I didn’t hear it at all when the ac was on. I read up on what it could be and learned about biofilm and it clogging up. I took the p trap, the rubber hose and the piece going in the wall out and cleaned them really well. It was disgusting what came out! I’m guessing these people never cleaned it in”

It’s standard practice to fill a septic tank when backfilling.

“Long story short, original owners decided to plant a river birch over the drain pipe going to our septic. The tree has been cut down but we started having clogging problems in the line. Camera discovered a gap in the drain line and we opted for a full line replacement. When the plumbers went to replace they discovered a heavy root system still underground above the pipe. Tree guys only grind stumps on Saturdays and came out today to grind up more of the roots, and unfortunately had to hit the pi”

“We are watching a farm for a family. They use an old septic tank for dog poops. As instructed, place poops on the left hole and spray with water every few days. Had been picking up poops every 24hrs and spraying each time. For the last 3 weeks it’s been working fine - poops would disappear between uses. The last few days they’ve not been going down and I don’t want to give them something to worry about while they’re on vacation. Any help as to how I can get them to go down? submitted by &#”

“AC condensation drain always makes a mess on the side of the house. The AC drain is in the attic and runs right next to the tub drain, then outside. I have a old peer and beam house, so I have plenty of space to work. I understand its needs to drain via a air gap. My main concern is not creating a weak spot or area where, let's say, the sewer were to back up, I would not know for a while because it is under the house. I am crazy. Can I do this safely? Where. How woud I tie this in? https://pr”

“Cold water copper lines showing significant signs of corrosion. Had a pinhole leak years ago but way down the line in the same run. Outside of the lack of flux cleaning, there appears to be calcium buildup near HVAC vent. Repipe immediately? submitted by /u/PaintAppropriate2689 [link] [comments]”

“Can I identify replacement cartridges for these from photos if I stop by the plumbing supply store, or do I need to shut off the water, remove them, and take the cartridges in to get the right ones? submitted by /u/GarageJer [link] [comments]”

“Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice before I decide whether I need to open up a finished wall. I was hanging a mirror and drilled a small pilot hole in an interior wall using a 1½-inch screw. The wall is outside a bathroom, and there's a laundry room directly above. While drilling, I noticed black plastic shavings mixed with the drywall dust, which made me worry that I may have contacted a black ABS plumbing vent pipe. The builder wasn't willing to inspect it, but they said that”
