“One more budget tip: record a quick test and listen on your phone speaker or cheap earbuds before buying anything else. That's how most people actually listen, and it tells you way faster than gear specs whether your room is the real problem or the mic is.”

“Others have covered the most important bits but I will say as someone who has been around sound and mic systems my entire life.... Spare cables. You never know when a cable will die or cause issues. And the more you're moving them around the more chance of damage to the cable.”

“Appearance doesn’t matter, so get the fluffy padded headphones 🎧 (nothing that sticks in your ear). Shure m7 will be just around the price range.”

“We didn’t have any issues with ours. We used three Rode PodMic 2 with USB-C on a dongle that fit into one MacBook Thunderbolt port. Used pretty good, although a small setup on my Mac’s MIDI Controller and Auditon was necessary.”

“Thats a solid list but for 4 people youre gonna want 4 pairs of headphones, not 2. Having everyone on cans cuts down bleed and lets each person monitor themselves Also with noise from a plaza outside, the MV7+ might pick up more than you'd like even with the tight pattern. Maybe look into a dynamic with even better rear rejection if the windows arent cutting it”

“Thank you! That sounds like a perfect start for me. I'll be happy to spend more when I know my enthusiasm is holding, and when I have a better idea of what features/price I'm looking for.”

“Silly question: is it the Zoom Podtrak P4 or the P4next that replaced it a year ago? DISCLAIMER: Yes, I am in fact an asshole. !”

r/podcasting28d ago

“Thanks Muttle, appreciate the feedback. Will go in the Atem direction. What are your thoughts on the Rodecaster Pro 2 vs something like the Zoom Podtrak P4Next?”

r/podcasting28d ago

“Not sure, I know they sell it without the boom arm, but it goes for pretty much the same price with it in that bundle as it does without it. Shop it around, Im sure you can find a stand that would work instead. For me, I dont like the idea of the stand because I bump my desk when im looking through my notes while talking and I feel like youd pick that up with the stand and you dont with the boom arm.”

What is the absolute best noise cancellation headsets for noises around you like a barking dog or people in the home that are loud talkers almost yelling. I want to make sure I'm able to hear clearly and those on the other end can't hear the noises around me. Also looking for chair recommendations, under $300. I won't be required to stay in my chair all day so I don”
