“rising sophomore, so far im just kind of doing shit, no real narrative from what i can see. generic stuff like TAing, EMT, etc. how do i build a narrative?”
Several posts express anxiety and uncertainty among premed students regarding interviews, advisor feedback, beta blockers for interview nerves, and the competitiveness of medical school admissions. There's a sense of questioning strategies and feeling overwhelmed by the process.

“Hi, so I’ve already written my personal statement but I want to know if admission committees may not like writing about experiences with personal chronic diseases? I don’t think I made it a pity party, but what I preserved through and how it (hopefully) makes me a better physician. submitted by /u/Glittering_Tie_6199 [link] [comments]”
“Hi guys! As my premed journey comes to an end, I wanted to share some of the more niche things I wish I had known as a freshman. I’m going to try and be as specific as possible, and give advice I haven’t seen other people talk about. Lots of people have helped me along the way of my premed journey, so I just wanted to pass it along to the next group :). Find research in a bio-adjacent field. A lot of the time with wet lab research, progress will be quite slow. You have to run long experiments (w”
“can someone who’s in med school/has knowledge of acceptable answers PLEASE give me feedback on my rough why medicine spiel for interviews. i will dm it to you please this is the bane of my existence🙏🏼 submitted by /u/Phrase_Boring [link] [comments]”
“Hi guys, I wanted to ask for those who took gap year (s), did you work something medical or research related ? Does your final free time before devoting the rest of your life to medicine have to be a medical related thing ? For those that took time off and didn’t do something medical or research related, what did you do and how was it perceived in your interviews? I have research and clinical hours and all that , so I want to work as a substitute teacher , it’s flexible for MCAT studying, fun, a”
“Hello everyone, I am in kind of a precarious spot where I think I want to go back into doing medicine. The only issue with this is that I'm in my last semester of college, and have none of the extracurriculars besides the research. To further complicate things, I plan on relocating to another state after graduation to live closer with my partner so I won't be able to get in-state residency status for about a year. That part I'm not too worried about as I'm more worried about buil”
“I'm writing a secondary for the gap year at Einstein (3000 characters) and have truly only gotten to 1500 characters without telling a story, keeping it like a list with lessons after. Is this bad, and should I be more detailed, or do they really just want us to explain, and is 3000 just the upper limit? Same with transferring colleges question submitted by /u/snowy-llama [link] [comments]”
“Basically the title. I'm graduating in December after 3.5 years of school. I know med school acceptances are not guaranteed, but if I do get in this cycle, I would have a gap semester. I hope this doesn't come off as pretentious; I'm just weighing my options I guess. I'm kind of stuck in a dilemma on whether to take a break for the next semester or get an internship. Let's say I get in this cycle and get the job. I'm currently in the final round of interviewing for Epic S”

“As you can tell by the tittle, I’m looking for some advice for any extracurriculars that I can do that might aid in my success for med school applications. (Im also going into second year at western uni if that relevant) I have called up a million clinics to ask for shadowing positions, I have applied for a couple leadership, and I’ve emailed a prof or two for research positions but to no avail. With school right around the corner I’m starting to realize how cooked I am. I don’t want to end up d”
“So I have been on the path to med school for roughly 3 years now, all started when I was working in sales and I enjoyed the idea of crafting the “perfect pitch” for every customer- every unique customer had a unique request and a unique problem to solve- the solution I called the “ultimate solution”. I then quit my job in sales and started working as a pharmacy tech at Walgreens, got my vaccination and CPR cert from them and did vaccines for 2 years almost everyday my entire time at Walgreens. T”
“This is one of MCG's: Please describe your motivation for becoming a physician. Provide an example of an impactful clinical experience or patient encounter which reinforced your desire to enter medicine. Like... what was the point of the PS? submitted by /u/univ3287 [link] [comments]”
“Hello everyone. I've been reflecting on what my final application would be a lot as of lately as I planned to apply to med schools this upcoming cycle. Through reflection I feel like my final application will not be where I want it to be in the end and as you can guess by the title of this post I am thinking of taking a gap year. By the time of my application I will have about ~3.96 GPA(If I get all As for this year) ~125 volunteer hours (clinical and non clinical), ~1000 hrs each of researc”
“Hi there! I was wondering if someone had a few minutes and an unbiased pair of eyes to let me know if my personal statement for PT school answers this year’s prompt? I’m not looking for an editor, but hopefully my point got across bc my first draft was too indirect and Reddit rlyyyyyy helped narrow it down, LOL. “I'm a reapplicant, and my application is very different this cycle. Last cycle, I was applying after my second year of college, and now I'm applying after my third and final year of college. Maybe it's that experiences matured me, but I look back on my last cycle's essays and they're so much worse than my current (pre-)writing. Any other reapplicants feel the same way? submitted by /u/ZenDarKritic55 [link] [comments]”
“hey can anyone look at my why medicine that I have drafted out. Its just kinda my though process of what I want to say! submitted by /u/Wel8818919 [link] [comments]”
“So in my country, GPA depends on the final National boards exams, and the results of the exam don't come out untill June/July. And we don't have any predicted grades either so I couldn't have applied for fall 2026. As a result I had to take a gap year and will apply for fall 2027. Should I write about the timeline mismatch in that prompt, or about what I did in my gap year? submitted by /u/jholmomoo [link] [comments]”

“Hi all, I hope this post is appropriate for this sub. I’m 22F, just graduated from a decent liberal arts university in NYC with a BA in English, 3.9 gpa summa cum laude. Since high school, I have always been interested in the healthcare field, even attempting to do nurse volunteer opportunities (cancelled cuz of COVID) and taking Anatomy and Physiology in HS. I did well in this course and my Biology courses as well because I am naturally good at memorization and didn’t need to study. However, I”
“I’m having some trouble phrasing my overall gap year so far and plans for the rest of it. I worked as a derm MA for 6 months (hated it and they treated MAs like janitors) then got a job as a clinical research coordinator at a T5 cancer hospital. I love my new job but I don’t know how to phrase the transition in jobs. I still learned things from the MA job and mentioned that but then I just said I found a new opportunity to become a Crc in one of my essays. Anyone have advice on how to say it? &#”
“Like are you going for more non-medical personal stories or are you drawing from your clinical experiences or a mix of both? submitted by /u/kirveyre [link] [comments]”
“Hi! Is anyone willing to read my drafted idea of how I’ll respond to why medicine in an interview? If you are, please respond, and I can dm you! submitted by /u/StrainLow9928 [link] [comments]”
“Hi, I’m currently an incoming sophomore. I’ve been working as a paid tutor to teach English and racked up hundreds of hours from it. I wonder if this is good to mention on the Med School Application since it’s non-medical related. I also have other pre-med focused activities such as researching and clinical volunteering, but this job has the most hours so far since I have to work and pay for stuff. I could try to also find a clinical paid job, but it is just a plan right now. Anyone also have wo”
“The prompt is, in short: “describe a time you showed commitment, leadership, or curiosity in your path to medicine, 500 words”. This SOM specifically states that you shouldn’t use stuff from your PS, and if you do it should take a different angle. That unfortunately stops me from using most f my good answers to this lol. The best thing I’ve come up with is this: 5 weeks before my MCAT, my girlfriend and I had to rush our kitten to the ER at like 9pm bc of a urinary emergency. We got to take him”
“As I write my secondaries, I get many sinking feelings that my writing is not good enough to get an interview at any school. Then I remember these are my "good" ones and the ones I wrote earlier were less workshopped than these. And then I'm back to the floor crying. Anyone else feel the same :D submitted by /u/comittsucc [link] [comments]”
I feel like it doesn't show enough about me, but I'm not sure how to show more about me. Im writing about my dad's alzheimers. Its still kinda rough. Dm me submitted…
“hello! i need advice: i'm an incoming college freshman (fresh out of high school lol) and i've been taking the summer to plan out my premed path to eventually end up in medical school. truly i cannot imagine myself pursing any other profession and this is gonna sound cliche but it is my absolute dream to go to a t10 med school. i've been in a consistent argument with my parents about taking ONE singular gap year to build a stronger app and connections contrary to going on the traditi”
“This is mainly copium for me but it’s throwing me off. I think I write best when I give a narrative and personal experience to something. The advisor said it sounds like I’m trying too hard to stand out. I feel like essays without a story anyone could have written really. submitted by /u/Tiredfirstrspdr12 [link] [comments]”
“Applying to classic gap year jobs like MA and patient care jobs but I haven’t had much luck. Thoughts on working as a pharmacy tech during a gap year? Is it clinical enough? Any other job suggestions for a gap year are also greatly appreciated🙏 submitted by /u/Actual_Appearance_58 [link] [comments]”

Never been to a doctor in the U.S. just shaking experiences. can I just schedule as appointment with a pcp and as him for beta blockers to take before my interviews?.
