“I need some realistic advice even if it stings. I am 36, I have my bachelors and I want to continue with prereqs for med school. I took Bio 1 & 2 in 2014, and Chem 1 & 2 in 2016. I read for some med schools prereqs don’t have an expiration date, so I want to continue taking the…”
“(long story but please read) I’ve noticed this subreddit is helpful for giving advice to premeds so I’m just looking for some as well. Please, no bs replies. I just graduated with a non-science degree. My dream was always to become a physician, I decided to give it a try…”
Many applicants feel behind in their medical school journey due to late starts, lack of prior experience (ECs, research), or needing to catch up post-graduation. This creates anxiety about timelines and whether they can realistically achieve their goals.

I just graduated with a non-science degree. My dream was always to become a physician, I decided to give it a try. However, postbacc are so expensive. I’m taking some at a cc but planning on taking others at a postbacc, but I’m struggling to get by. I have to find a way to stack up on everything, and I’m finding it so hard to get research d”
“Hi all. I need help figuring out my life path. I decided to switch from tech to medicine senior year of college. I did a postbacc for 2 years in a different state immediately after. I took the MCAT and was ready to apply last cycle but took another year to travel, work, save money and just have a break. It’s been a year since I moved back in with my parents and I couldn’t find a job in tech. My family is extremely toxic and borderline abusive. They do support me financially and have covered all”

For personal reasons, back then I didn’t pursue it, but here we are. I figured to give it a try instead of regretting it later on. I went to cc than transfer to a 4 year uni but the issue here was that at cc I had around a 3.9, and at uni… I became depressed, had undiagnosed adhd, and ended up with a 3.4. I’m aware med school counts both.”
“One of the UCSF secondary questions is "If you are 2025 or earlier college graduate, please use the space below to tell us what you have done since completing your undergraduate degree." If we graduated in 2026, can we describe what our plans are for the gap year? What did you guys do for this question. submitted by /u/Due-Quote-4074 [link] [comments]”
“Basically what the title says. I am still deciding between pursuing CAA or pre-med, but they both have similar pre-reqs and competitiveness. I have no research hours, haven’t taken mcat, no volunteering, nothing to show for leadership or ecs. I feel so behind and overwhelmed. I wish someone told me about how competitive it is way earlier (my parents are immigrants) and I have no connections so I’m basically in this in my own. The only thing I’ve got going for me right now is my high GPA and 350”
“I submitted my primary app June 23 (I graduated the week before). I only got secondaries August 17. I didn’t have time to pre-write because I had an extremely invasive procedure as well as sepsis and was only mentally able to start writing August 17. I’ve been writing 1 or 2 apps/day because I can’t mentally handle more than that otherwise my brain starts shutting down (start doomscrolling and staring at a wall and get depressed). I’ve only submitted 15 apps so far and I applied to 40 schools, a”
“I just decided to switch to pre-med this summer, going into my sophomore year. I majored in bio my freshman year and have a 3.9 GPA. But, I decided a little late into the summer and was not able to get any clinical or research hours. I would find it hard to get meaningful hours for anything during school because of classes and being on the track team as well. What do you guys think are some realistic goals for my sophomore year to make sure I stay on track? submitted by /u/jacklied6”
“Hi everyone, i'm a nontraditional premed looking for some advice. I graduated with my bachelor's a few years ago, completed a postbacc, and I'm planning to take the MCAT in about 6 months. I have several years of academic research experience and about 200 hours of clinical volunteering (hospital and hospice), but I know I need more clinical experience before applying. The challenge is that I also need to earn an income while studying for the MCAT. I've been looking into jobs like”
“Hi everyone, I’m a rising senior studying Computer Science and Statistics at a T30. I have a good GPA (~3.8) and some research experience. I’ve been recently thinking about pursuing a medical career, but I’m honestly not sure if it’s too late for me or if it’s even worth it because I’d have so much to catch up on in terms of prereqs, extracurriculars, etc I’ve been looking into postbacc programs, MPH, etc. to see how I could get caught up but I’m not sure what’s the right move for me or even how”
“Having submitted half of my secondaries, my feed on social media is full of ”advice” that I tend to take with a grain of salt. I thought “you know what I’ll watch the next one that pops up just to see” The following was the advice given. Do not tell stories Do not create an essay bank Do not reuse essays Can’t help but laugh, roll my eyes then scroll on. I have committed all these egregious sins and felt like confessing them to the group because one random person on the internet said I will neve”

“I graduated May 25 with a biomed degree, 3.4 cumulative 3.1 science. During my time in school I was pre-vet, so my hours + some classes reflect that. Transitioning to pre-med now that I’ve graduated, but I have a lot of catching up to do. I’m fine with an extended timeline so long as I’m working on the right things, I just know I have a lot and want to know if the process is even feasible for my position. During my time in school, I had 0 ECs, no research. I admittedly did not take my college ca”
“I am incoming M1 this fall, and am a finalist for the NHSC scholarship. I'm not 100% if I am going to receive the scholarship, but wanted to do some more research before signing the COI. I am not currently set on any specialty, but am interested in neurology, family med, IM. I know I don't want to go into surgery or EM, and will prioritize work/life balance as I plan to have kids soon after residency. However, I am very aware that specialty interests change throughout medical school, so”
