Small business owners and individual creators are experiencing frustration and wasted time due to slow website performance, often stemming from inadequate or poorly managed hosting solutions. They're seeking affordable, reliable, and easy-to-manage hosting options to ensure their online presence is effective and doesn't hinder their goals. This often involves a learning curve and significant research before launching.

“Yes, I agree on the generated English on the website, but... What I’m trying to sell is a fast start with good-to-go infrastructure. AWS is hard and pricey, it’s easy to make a mistake, and you need to understand what you need when you are…”
“It's not just code, it's infrastructure. Is your site performant enough that you're not losing conversions due to a slow checkout? Is your site reliable enough that it won't crash from spikes in traffic (eg: black Friday / cyber Monday). Do you have backups and a disaster recovery plan in case of a disaster? Are you okay being on top of CVEs and ensuring your stack isn't vulnerable? Do you want to be managing e-commerce infrastructure while also managing your business? Is it”

“honestly I'd stop asking for their main domain during the trial. a subdomain like news.theirdomain.com doesn't touch the mx records their real email runs on, so the "what if I break my inbox" fear mostly goes away, and you can say exactly that in one line on the setup screen. “It's not too bad, but seems to be a bit slow while generating the product pages. Since it seems your site does not have user login or other customizations per user, you could just cache the whole generated pages at the cdn level (it looks like you are using one). Basically just add public cache header for a few hours to all pages except the cart. Also I think the connection between your server and CDN is a bit slow. Images that are in CDN cache are returned very fast, but cache misses take m”

“Hey all, this is my first post in this community and I was really just hoping to learn what was out there that I could be doing since I just started self hosting recently this year. I learned a lot these past couple months and am just curious what are the absolute best tools I can implement in my current server to make my life easier/better. I am a fan of the *arr stack but I only use a couple and I have a navidrome server set up. That's about it for now. Any and all pointers would be wonder”

“I feel like there’s a point where adding more services stops being fun and just becomes another thing to maintain. Lately I’ve been leaning toward keeping things simple. Fewer moving parts, less troubleshooting, and ideally stuff that just works without me checking on it every other day. Anyone else gone through a phase of simplifying their setup after spending years adding more to it? submitted by /u/Electrical_Demand326 [link] [comments]”

“buy the domain yourself so you own it no matter what builder you end up on. i'd go .com since you're getting canada/nz interest. for the site itself keep it realy simple: who you help, results, pricing, a booking button. that's 90% of it [re: How do I even start (tutoring business - website launch)?]”
“Thank you so much! Appreciate the advice. How do you redirect websites? And how do you attach your domain (that i bought from cloudflare) to the site host (squarespace)? I've got an ABN - all sorted on that end! [re: How do I even start (tutoring business - website launch)?]”
“I use Hostinger because I found it cheap and reliable, I dont have experience with their A.I. In my experience these companies usually run cheaper models (like gemini flash), so you are most likely better using better models like Sol and Claude equivalent. But, it may be worth a try to see what Hostinger comes up with. Specially to setuo the basics, you can review it again in the future. If your competition has strong online presence, you must decide: Try to out compete (hard, but possible) with”

“I ran the free look on our domain. I didn't sign up, so nothing on the dashboard from me. The first card said "No shield in DNS, traffic hits the server directly" and "Scans and exploits could hit the live IP". We're on Vercel, so every request goes through their edge and there's no server of ours behind it to hit. It was the scariest line on the page and it wasn't true for us. Anyone on Vercel, Netlify or similar will get the same, so I'd detect them and”
Right now mostly Cloudflare [re: How are you hosting you saas ?]
“Hey there ^^ I hope it's alright if I ask a little question amongst those who might have a bit more experience and perspective. I haven't really done any self hosting yet, but I am willing to try out a few things here and there, just to maybe get a little idea on what to expect and how this whole self hosting thing will work. To start off, I would like to access my home network from outside. I have a FRITZ!Box 5530 Fiber and I did activate the external access once I got the router, but w”

“Our shared host went down for 6 hours during a clients sale, no root access, no backups even the support took like 3 hours to reply. Told my partner we should move onto our own VPS and run it ourselves but he digressed. he used HestiaCP as a middle ground, still one box + babysittin it solo tho, so I spun up a test VPS this weekend and put BeAdmin on it, backups, cron, firewall, all through separate modules had 3 client sites live on it by Sunday night, hes still not sold. Anyone moved a small s”
“No dude, I’m not trying to sell hosting/infrastructure. The idea is you take your existing environment > hibernate it (save money) then restore the entire environment when you need it again. Hopefully resulting in lower billed usage at the end of the month [re: What if you could completely destroy a cloud environment, then bring it back exactly when you need it?]”
“Yeah in theory. 😃 Don't rely on zone import at any provider, you'll live a longer, happier life. [re: Moving DNS for 30 client domains, what should I watch during the switch]”
“I host websites and email for about 30 small businesses on two Hetzner servers. Next month I'm moving all their DNS from the registrar's nameservers to Cloudflare, mostly to get proper API access and DNSSEC. The last time I moved a handful of domains, two of them lost MX records in the process and their email bounced for half a day before a customer called me. I would rather not learn about problems that way again. For this migration I want checks running before, during and after the swi”
“TransIP is a well known Dutch domain and hosting provider. They have https://transip.eu aimed at international customers, and they accept PayPal and credit card as payment methods. I've been a customer for 10+ years and they've always been reliable with quick and knowledgeable support. [re: Trustworthy, EU based, domain provider?]”
Mine sits on Hostinger [re: Trustworthy, EU based, domain provider?]
“There's a lot of good options to host a backend, for smaller saas projects i'd probably consider vercel or hostinger web apps, but this still goes down to preference. [re: where do you host your backend?]”

“Welp, had to happen. My mainstay for almost a decade, https://iwantmyname.com , is unusable now. Their search displays only unavailable domains, and instead of just not doing the purchase, my funds went to "a credit account that can be used on our services". Balls. x.x But hey, nothing stays good forever, this much is obvious. With this chance at hand tho, I want to start to unplug from the US of "ahhh, what the heck are you doing over there...?" and thus would like to go to”

For the last 3–4 years, I've helped (for a small fee) organize an academic event while building and maintaining its technical infrastructure. I maintained the website, developed a custom WordPress plugin for submissions, handled technical issues, and helped prepare publications. I was also developing a new, more general version of the”

“Both are absolutely terrible to be fair, expensive and taking down your domains at the first report (happened to me with Cloudflare) I'd recommend https://hostsave.com which is way cheaper and notify you before someone like a competitor reports your domain, asks for details. It's verify and ban. not ban and verify. [re: Namecheap vs Godaddy]”

I have a weird one… I prefer render but just launched a dedicated cloud server to host a node.js app on siteground. The main domain is wordpress and I have hosted wordpress…
“Pre-launch market research for a one-person VPS hosting business (New Zealand founder, servers in London). I'm testing whether there's room for a small, honest host that guarantees resources (no overselling) and offers real-person help, against the big budget providers. “It sounds like the main concern isn't really which hosting platform to choose, but whether you're making the right infrastructure decision before your project grows. With a custom Flask app, the best choice depends on a few things: whether you need a database, background tasks, file storage, and how much control you want over deployment and scaling. Render and Railway can both be reasonable starting points, but the real question is how much complexity you want to manage yourself. What do”

“Hi all, I am currently building my website, using Claude to help me build everything. I have a experience with python, so naturally i gravitated to using that as my go to and Flask for the backend stuff. Now im stuck on what hosting platform to use. I keep getting recommended render and railway but to be honest i dont see too many videos on this on youtube, so instantly i get iffy. Is it because of my stack? I know not to go to GoDaddy or Wix because i wrote my own code and want full control. I”

“A website contains more than just drag dropping the static content or frontend. Cache, dns, ssl, mail, panel, backend, headers, htaccess. I deployed my first sites on LAMP stack by reading documentations before i even know who is json In this era you can just run claude/codex on a server and can do all/guide you to do [re: I am trying to figure out how/where to host a static web page.]”

“In old times i was using aws because they provide one server for free its 1 core, 1 ram since your site is only static pages it will be more than enough. There is also the oracle giving the same thing check them out Google cloud also has 90 days credits Choose ubuntu as image, download/generate ssh key, install and set nginx, scp your files, point your domain's a record to the server ip, install and set the certbot and done easy peasy If you want something you can drag drop you have to use a”
“EDIT 2: I have gone with NeoCities. This is exactly what I needed; $5 a month, custom domain, drag and drop my project folder into the editor. Done. Everyone here urged my to go with github pages, and I tried to learn it, but the UI is so unintuitive to me (a non programmer) that it might as well be something designed by and for aliens. This isn't the first time I've tried to figure github out, so I think I'll just have to resign myself to the fact that I'm too stupid/ADHD to mak”
“I work for a healthcare group and as is the custom we have a small pile of WordPress nightmare websites hosted on various platforms with no real cohesion. One such website is special, it started life as a WordPress nightmare, but WordPress did the thing it does when no babies it and died so I converted the whole thing to straight HTML/JS and republished it. Where does Network Solutions come into this? They're the host for the website. Nothing special, just basic hosting with a root folder an”
“I run a small video hosting service called Stillhaven.io . We are a team of four in Michigan. This week we closed the free plan to new signups. It was not a hard decision. The free plan was a marketing experiment. We ran ads to it and hoped people would see the value and upgrade when they hit the free limits. We expected some abuse, and we limited the ads to the US and Canada to keep the cost reasonable. Here is what it did in about three months. The numbers 35 free accounts 0 upgrades to a paid”

“I hate these MFers. Yes, Yes, I know Don't Use GoDaddy. This is a new client that has a bunch of domains from them. I need to move them. Trying to get a DNSSEC record set up. “Hello people, not sure if this is the right spot to ask this but maybe I'll get some constructive feedback. I am a web developer for the longest time and for 5 years I have also been in the hosting space. People who tried WebHosting know that the most difficult thing about it is getting new clients, so the only way I acquired new clients is through actual web development work. While my expenses are in the green, I noticed that I have so incredibly much capacity left on my server that I am ne”
“NameSilo's forwarding is just a redirect so it won't keep the URL masked. You'll need to point the DNS to a server and use a frame or proxy setup, basically showing the original site inside an iframe. But honestly masked forwarding is terrible for SEO and looks sketchy to users, nobody likes seeing one domain in the bar while the content is from another.”
“masked forwarding in namesilo keeps the new domain in the bar, but it's just an iframe. the homepage can look ok. paths don't, and the first click inside the page usually sends people to originaldomain.com. point the new domain's dns at the same server, add it on the host as an alias, and put an ssl cert on it. then newdomain.com/clickedpages stays in the bar for real. if the bar still flips to the old domain after that, the site (wordpress does this) is redirecting every other hostn”
