“The problem with these is that Chapin ones are only for low pressure and the hose end ones are for hand spraying and can't connect to a sprinkler.”

Homeowners are facing challenges related to lawn care, including drought conditions, weed infestations (crabgrass, sedge), sprinkler system malfunctions, and general maintenance difficulties. These issues often arise from seasonal changes and require ongoing attention.

“First trip mine survived like that i was sold for good. A garden watering timer at the spigot really is the whole trick. Each bed got its own line off one of Eartheasy's drip kits with a battery timer and now the garden barely notices…”
“Didn’t have to have an in-ground system for a reno so I moved the one oscillating sprinkler back and forth. The water didn’t hit all the edges, but it’s OK. I was really concerned around day 10 if it was a waste but it all worked out! No mesotrione or starter fert was applied. Dethatched w Greenworks plug-in, aerated w a tow-behind aerator, and a 50lb bag of seed over 6,000 sf and watering 3x per day for the first 14 days. Excited to mow it in a few more days! submitted by /u/VivaMel”

“So it’s been a month to month and a half that we realized that our sprinkler system for the rental home stopped working. Grass went from green to this. Because we are in Texas, we haven’t had a drop of rain in so long. How can I revive this? Been watering everyday for a whole week now. I’m worried that I need to redo my st.augustine. submitted by /u/Fluid-Tune-4143 [link] [comments]”
“Fixed irrigation systems are exempt from the hosepipe ban. In any case, September is the perfect time for a full restoration. Scarify until you expose bare earth and ideally aerate as well (use a fork if you don't have a hollow tine aerator). Then overseed with a suitable seed mix for your garden conditions e.g. sunny, shady, high foot traffic etc). Topdress with some decent topsoil and scatter some slow release autumn feed. If you want to get best results, cover it with fleece and be sure t”
“It’s been super hot in Atlanta for weeks with temps in the mid 90s and my Zeon Zoysia is looking greenish brown. I put milagonite and ironite on it 8 days ago but it doesn’t appear to be doing anything. The greener area on the right gets less sun than the browner areas which get full sun exposure. I’ve been watering it regularly and got a good rain this am. Don’t know if it needs water, is going dormant, or something else is causing this. What do you think? submitted by /u/JohnBecca”
“Any idea what size sprinkler this is? I need to cap it as it’s not popping up so water is just running down my drive way. Can’t figure out what kind of cap to buy submitted by /u/veryverysleepyguy [link] [comments]”
“Looking for help with my Zoysia in Austin, put in new sod and sprinklers last year but this year struggling with these patches. Not sure if sprinklers just need adjusting, we've also struggled in the past with fungus and grubworms. The bright brown patch in the center of the lawn is not the issue, that's from running another line and having to cut up the sod. The problem is those gray/silvery looking areas, and I'm just confused since it's not the full lawn. Currently watering tw”
“Sprinkler is making this clicking sound and causing water pipe to rattle. Thought it might be air in the line but not sure how that would have happened. submitted by /u/DisgruntledAvacado [link] [comments]”
“I left a 1/2” hose wide open for two days straight by accident once and it cost me $60 more than usual. My backyard damn near looked like half of it had flood irrigation.”

We are on day 57 of August. Why put sod down in this weather?
“Zoysia needs quite a bit of water, until its established. Then it hardly needs any.”
“oof yeah that looks rough for a fresh install. zoysia's pretty tough but you gotta drown it those first few weeks the brown spots might still have some life in the roots if you get on it now. give it a deep soak every morning for the next week or so and see what happens. the green patches look like they're taking so there's hope what variety did they put down? some of the newer ones bounce back better than others”
“And then, don’t forget this next part, very important, but if I were you just a little spritz of water”
It will take a long time and lots of water. I have a zoysia lawn.
“We sprayed the high rate of celsius on our zorro zoysia, 3.2 gram/one gallon of water over our 1000 sq ft small yard. it's been six days and the spurge appears the exact same. How long does it take to observe any difference? Would appreciate any tales of encouragement because right now I think I hear the spurge laughing at me. submitted by /u/Front-Muffin-7348 [link] [comments]”
“For extended runs, I suggest buying a “50 year” rated black poly line and burying it below the frost line. If you connect that to an above ground yard hydrant or frost free sill cock, you will need to drain and blow it during the coldest months- especially if and when it’s needed during those months/periods.”
“I just bought a house where the backyard sprinklers weren't fully pressurizing, resulting in the grass growing only where the heads are. I'm not sure how long this was a problem for. I finally got them fixed today and most of the grass can be watered now by the sprinklers. There's sections where there's no grass growing at all. That sprinkler zone is probably messed up by the tree roots. Is it possible for me to revitalize the yard or is it best I hire someone to revitalize and t”
“During the high heat it was every hour for 5 minutes a zone. Now I’ve moved to 10 minutes every 3 hours”
“6 sprinklers on one run. 4x 90° in the corners, 2x 180° halfway down each side. Job done”
“Actually got the tape measure and went around today, pretty consistent 11-12', ordering dual spray (u) rainbirds to try. This mix of 15' van with no mpr is prob part of my grass problem.”
“I’m getting ready to overseed and got 2 of these sprinkler sets from Amazon. Think of it as an above ground irrigation system. Haven’t hooked them up yet buti don’t see why it won’t work. Orbit Port-A-Rain Hose Watering... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NJ3R26?ref=ppx\_pop\_mob\_ap\_share”
“Impact sprinklers are all over the place with their performance. The manufacturers don't typically list performance numbers, just a max under ideal conditions. In my experience, in ground rotors will at least match impacts on the same water supply. But with the in ground stuff, you are given a lot more info to dial them in. This chart shows your options for hunter: https://www.hunterirrigation.com/sites/default/files/IC_I20_dom.pdf The nozzle sets are sold separately, but sets only cost arou”
“Garden hose timer and above ground sprinkler, it water every 4 hours or 6 hours or everyday depending upon setting”
“Orbit B-hyve Hose timer with WiFi, takes a bit of setup, but then just set and forget. I have a 4 outlet in the backyard and 4 outlet in the front yard. 8 hoses and 8 sprinklers. Then watch your cameras and adjust as needed lol. https://preview.redd.it/f7hyqtpxdtoh1.jpeg?width=1206&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e15a52587d1acf3bf836a346a6297e17d307917”
“I bought the Rain Bird 42SASPG Gear Drive Rotor, Full Circle, 26-38 Feet from Amazon. Extremely happy with this unit so far. I should mention that I also upgraded my 5/8” hose to a 3/4” inch hose. Between the two of these, I’m really able to move some water!! I seeded today and I’m not having to move the Rain Bird nearly as often as the oscillating one i used last year.”
“I have automatic sprinklers, that what every other day unless there rainfall, do we think this is disease that killed the lawn? submitted by /u/Negative_Bend5046 [link] [comments]”
“Someone else shared this and it changed my watering life. Buy a tripod style, remove the existing head, screw in a 6" pvc riser, then screw onto that a rainbird head of your choice. Easy to adjust, silent operation, consistent distribution.”
I had the same problem and hated all the available sprinklers. What worked for me was making the diy one on the Silver Cymbal channel. Basically just some pvc fittings to make…
“Long time lurker, first time poster. Southern Ut, should be zone 8b. Had sod installed in October of last year. No in ground sprinklers at the time was just manually watering with hose and move around sprinkler. Grass looked great through our colder months and heat came fast, watering may have lacked and started to develop yellow spots that ended up becoming all dead. Roots never seemed to take far down, ground seems very hard. After all my reading, is scalping, aerating, and reseeding my next s”
“Rain Bird 5000 rotors and Rain Bird 1800 popups are fairly ubiquitous and can last for years even in Florida’s sandy soil. The problem you’re having is that you’re expecting underground sprinkler quality from in ground sprinkler parts.”
“Most of them are imported plastic crap. There are a few brass impulse units that last longer. None of them are buy it for life”
“The water pump increases pressure, not volume. The sprinkler will throw the water further, but it will be the same amount of water as it's throwing now. So basically, it'll cover twice as much area, but it will still take twice as long as to put down the necessary amount of water.”
“I’ve been using Melnor sprinklers. They don’t suck and are reasonably priced. Perrot makes the best impact sprinklers that I’ve ever used (as a homeowner). I have an irregular shaped yard so I ultimately need up trenching and doing in ground sprinklers and drip irrigation for flower beds. Went with Irrigreen for the in ground and rain bird for drip.”
“Pop up sprinklers with a riser to connect to a tripod or ground stake is far better than anything else you'll find out there. I personally use Rainbird 5004+ with pressure regulator. I can series three together with no loss of water.”
“Agreed, sch 40 1” pipe, with basic hunter pop ups with normal nozzles. If the unit takes a dump it’s $4 out of my pocket. I have found it is best practice to use the good black hose connecting to PVC, prime/glue like normal with the exception of I also prime/glue the face of the coupler the hose enters. That way it has a nice fat connecting bead as well”
“You need to be connected to an actual water pump to get the full 4500 Sq ft coverage. Using the water pressure from the spigot will get you half that, at best.”
“I've found a few that perform just fine, but they don't last. They're either made out of plastic that degrades after a single summer of UV exposure, full of cheap o-rings that leak after a season or 2, or both. Sprinklers are just an annual consumable now. Every spring I go to the chain home-improvement store and buy the 2 or 3v sprinklers that I'll use for the next 6 months.”
“This is exactly what I do. I've been using the 6" pgp sprinklers from Hunter, mounted to spinker spikes and connected by hoses. They reach the edge of my lawn when placed just on the edge of my mulch by the house, so I don't have to move them when I mow. They're all hooked up to a timer so It feels like having a sprinkler system without having to do the digging. I'm sure if I had a bigger yard the logistics would be more challenging, but I think it could still work.”
“Just a simple rain gauge at the beginning of the year to see how much the sprinkler puts down in 2 different areas of the lawn.”
That’s pretty solid. You’ve performed an irrigation audit to confirm?
“I’ve been giving it about 1 inch a week, possibly a little more over 2 days. We’ve had some very heavy rain days as well this year.”
“I just arranged my annual overseeding with tall fescue with my lawn company, but then realized that my county is still under water restrictions, with no sprinklers or hose-end sprinklers (which is what I typically use) allowed. I have about 3,000 sq ft of lawn to water. Typically use 4 hoses with timers and sprinklers. I don’t have time in my day to hand water this stuff, which is allowable under the restrictions, plus I’ll be out of town for week 3 after seeding. Any magical tips that can help?”
