I purchased the new Google TV streamer 4K hoping it would work as needed and it does not. I am curious is there anyone else in this community that uses a Chromecast 4k or Google TV streamer 4k to watch native 360 videos as I do. Is it still working for you if so or are you annoyed with the same issue as I am with it being broken though for over 4 months. I didn't official Report”

“For the past like 5 or 6 videos, my uploads default to play 360p resolution/quality when I watch them. The files are indeed 1080p and yes I can manually click the settings gear thing (in the bottom right) to force the playback to switch 1080p while I'm watching and it'll work. But if I don't manually click each and every time I watch one of my vids, it'll just stay in 360p til the end. I shouldn't have to do that manually every time. The quality setting says "Auto"”

r/youtube13d ago

“It’s a YouTube processing quirk, uploads at 1080p or higher get the fast, rubbish VP9 encode first, and the better quality version takes a while to replace the default. Uploading in 1440p, even if you just upscale a 1080p timeline, forces YouTube to use the vp09 codec from the start, so the default stream is cleaner. The audience being 40+ means they’re unlikely to fiddle with the quality cog, so forcing that better baseline is worth the extra render time.”

r/NewTubers13d ago

“I've also had this issue, no idea what's going on myself, I worry it could be destroying retention rate for my videos”

“Used to be able to cast YouTube from mobile app to pc on the same account and get full quality.”

“Has anyone had this issue? I have had my channel for years and it recently just started doing this. I have posted a few video and they default to 360p under the auto quality setting. The video is able to be switched to 1080p in the settings, but I don’t understand why it isn’t shown in that quality to begin with. Most people will probably just assume the video was uploaded in poor quality and will click off and I won't be able to grow my channel as much with the effort I put in. It’s also no”

“Has anyone had this problem? I'll be watching YouTube on my Xbox, and if I have it paused for too long, it starts playing the video in slow motion, but the speed settings haven't been changed. “I do not like permanent 2x speed as I rewind a lot. I dislike holding my screen for hours too. Is there somerhing like an auto clicker only for holding the screen? A consecutive one tip? Also, it is not only holding the video nowdays, you need to not swish and hold the place to not have the video dim itself. submitted by /u/WujuKingYi [link] [comments]”

“If the source file really is 1080p, the 360p version is usually just the first processed copy rather than a permanent downgrade. Give the processing more time and check the quality options on the watch page again later. For future uploads, exporting with the intended frame rate and bitrate, then watching it privately before publishing, can help catch an export issue without redoing the whole project.”

“I have the same experience. Isolated to the app where I can only choose the same as the picture. Max option 480p. Can view the same video in a browser on the phone at maxed out quality. “I've been using this tablet with no problems whatsoever for the past year or so & now all of a sudden every video I watch is limited to 480p being the highest quality to view(the other options being 144p, 240p, 360p). I checked my phone to see if it was happening on that end, too, but no I could still see stuff like 1080p & up. I've checked the tablet settings, went through YouTube's settings, & restarted my tablet but none of those worked. Tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab”

“I have 3 Chromecasts 4K units that worked great. Each started to play broken 360 video at different times. I just bought a new Google TV Streamer hoping that would work correctly, same issue. Worked great for a years all of sudden they all eventually force 360 in to a distorted 2d image. Seems like a bad update but it been months since my 1st unit acted up with no fix. Oddly casting 360 content from YouTube to the old og Chromecasts displays 360 correctly but you can control the video direction.”

“Dune Part 3 teaser streaming at 1080 and see how highly visible the grey and black pixels are. Not just that I have been experiencing this since a long time at every video that has black colouration on youtube, at first I thought the contrast between light and dark suddenly changing does it. But here the dark portion is just slightly outside of the sunlight's (or any light sources) range and it so disturbingly visible.
