“wait, it's completely gone for you? i still have the button on my end, it just doesn't show the number anymore. the count disappeared ages ago but the thumbs down icon itself never left for me. maybe they're a/b testing removing the whole thing or your extension is messing with it. wouldn't put it past them to silently kill it entirely.”

“Now that Shorts removed the dislike button it seems to have gone to complete shit. I used to get shorts that were obviously a bit engagement-bait but also relevant and interesting. Now it's just 100% engagement slop and there's no way to give negative feedback. I tried "liking" everything that wasn't slop - made no difference.”

“Then there's me. Been using Youtube for 20 years. Watch a lot of videos everyday and almost never use the like button. Rarely used the dislike button when it existed. I really couldn't care myself. I understand some people valued them but the central problem with the dislike buttons is that it is easily manipulated by large groups of upset people who want to vote down a video they hate and disagree with. That said, I wouldn't be greatly bothered if it returned.”

Just use the return dislike extension. I forgot they even removed it.

“Not how it works. You have the return dislikes extension. The like counter was disabled by the poster, so the return dislikes extension respects this by not showing the dislike count. It says “Disabled by Owner” so that you don’t think the extension is bugging. You can still dislike it.”
