“OK1 more time, everybody suggesting soundproofing is something you can just throw in doesn't know what they're talking about. Actually soundproofing a 2 bedroom apartment in every room is going to cost North of $20000. At that point it makes more sense just to pay the tenant to…”

“So forgive me if this is actually common since I am new to renting apartments. But I moved into a new build, 5 floor apartment and the walls are so thin with no noise dampening that I can hear the guy above me peeing clear as day. It sounds like they stomp around just…”

“Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone here has dealt with this and can recommend equipment that actually works. I need to document repeated noise coming from the apartment above me for management. I’m not talking about normal footsteps or everyday apartment living. I’m dealing with…”

“Please tell me the best ear plugs that will block out the constant heavy footsteps, kids constantly running back and forth and banging noises from my upstairs neighbours. I work night shift and I need to sleep during the day. My neighbours work from home and have two kids that run around back and forth all day. “So forgive me if this is actually common since I am new to renting apartments. But I moved into a new build, 5 floor apartment and the walls are so thin with no noise dampening that I can hear the guy above me peeing clear as day. It sounds like they stomp around just constantly, however I literally think it’s just lack of insulation and dampening. I also am not a sports fan, why do I bring it up? Cuz I pretty much get to enjoy the cheers and swearing of said up stairs tenant as he watches sport”

Sound. Carpet absorbs sound. Hard surfaces amplify it.

“Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone here has dealt with this and can recommend equipment that actually works. I need to document repeated noise coming from the apartment above me for management. I’m not talking about normal footsteps or everyday apartment living. I’m dealing with repeated heavy stomping/impact sounds, banging and thumping, things being dropped or moved, and a dog running around. Some episodes go on for quite a while and also happen late at night. The problem is that my iPhone record”

“Area rug, pictures on the wall or those sound barrier panels, furniture and a headset”

“You need some organic material around. Maybe an area rug or for something quick hang a blanket on a wall best probably behind you. Those will absorb the sound.”

“For noise you can't really control — footsteps, voices, TV, traffic, etc. — what has actually worked for you? Earplugs? Fan? Brown/white noise? Sound machine? Something else? I'm building a sound-masking tool and researching where masking genuinely helps (and where it doesn't). submitted by /u/plumios_com [link] [comments]”

“Very unlikely it would be inside the walls. Its somwthing that needs to be accessable for adjustment or service. and seeing as how you dont have your own individual meters, I think itd be odd for you to have your own PRVs... I mean anything is possible but it sounds more likely theres one big PRV on the main for the whole complex after the meter. If you do have them in your apartments, they probably wouldnt be in your bathroom. Like I said more likely to be in a water heater closet or access pan”

“Hey, since we know noise cancelling headphones exist, I'm interested in building a "room level" device that you would just set up like a sound system. I don't know if this is physically possible to build, or how expensive it would be, but I have a computer/technical background and am willing to role up my sleeves. If anyone has like, audio engineering background and is reading this and has armchair thoughts, please chime in. Not all of us can move. Buying a cancelling sound sys”
