Auto detailers cannot verify ceramic coating claims against shill reviews

“Why the hell would you even mention quality if you had it ceramic coated? It makes no sense to argue the paint is good when clearly you have ceramic protection on it. SMH. Honda has shit paint quality. Problematic clear coat that likes to chip away. Every Honda I've owned…”
“Hey, i just bought an Audi TTS Comp and wanna ceramic coat it for protection and deep gloss. Which Ceramic Coat do yall recommend? I want atleast 3 years of protection, i have seen Gtechniq CSU but you cant buy that as a consumer. The CSL + EXOv5 seems good too. Another…”
“Why is that nonsense? Seriously, why do you use this product? There must be a reason. I mean, it hardly improves the appearance of the paint. It's just water- and slightly dirt-repellent. Feel free to set me straight.”
Auto detailing enthusiasts are questioning the validity of 'ceramic' coatings, pointing out misleading marketing and inconsistent results. They express frustration with inflated claims and a lack of transparency within the industry.

“Maybe? But why would you go through all that trouble just to apply a coating that is going to last for a single year when there are so many good multi-year coatings on the market. The actual ceramic coating isn't the hard part really, it's…”
“I bought some Griot glass ceramic coating kit and Im debating either putting it now or waiting till spring. Because realistically is there a point to a glass ceramic coating kit in winter? It doesnt rain as much and the car will get dirty anyways without me detailing it. Does it help with ice on the windsdhield at all? I live in Quebec where our winters can get brutal. submitted by /u/boiyo12 [link] [comments]”
“They have a ceramic detail spray and a maintenance spray as well, but they offer actual coatings too, which is what I did. [re: Adams Advanced Graphene Ceramic Spray]”
“I mean that’s stuff is hard to not apply right. Decent to good product… not great [re: Meguair's Hybrid ceramic wax]”
“Agreed. Even if it's just a light polish with a jeweling pad, it's 100% necessary for the ceramic coating to properly bond to the paint and make it last longer. [re: Considering ceramic coating my RHO and had some questions]”
“Do you have a recommendation for a product in this line (basically quick spray ceramic) that is very slick and resists dust? [re: Two New-ish Turtle Wax Products that Work Really Well Together (Pure Bead, Wax & Dry+)]”
“I picked up a Ram RHO a couple of months ago and I've been considering ceramic coating it before winter hits. I did a couple of coats Griots 3-1 when I brought it home but just gave it a thorough wash before that and did not do any decon. I've also hit it with Gyeon wet coat once or twice since then. It's been holding up well but I've been considering doing something a bit more permanent before winter weather hits and had some questions. - The paint is in really good shape but th”
“Well you'd have to find someone who's tried every single ceramic coating out there to give you an answer. And I don't think that exists lol. Cars are different, the coatings are different. Just pick one and go for it. Watch a lot of YouTube videos. I personally would not get something like an eight year coding because you really think that you're not gonna touch your paint or clearcoat in eight years lol? [re: Most durable, thickest? ceramic coating?]”
“Why the hell would you even mention quality if you had it ceramic coated? It makes no sense to argue the paint is good when clearly you have ceramic protection on it. SMH. Honda has shit paint quality. Problematic clear coat that likes to chip away. Every Honda I've owned, friends owned, family owned, has had clear coat damage. One of the places they love chipping is the front edge of the roof. Lets not forget the quarter panel rust because the paint is too soft and can't protect the she”
“Have you used the Ceramic Wet Wax? If so, how does it compare to wax and dry+.”
Turtle Wax products fuck and consistently punch WAY above their weight
“For me, it's been ridiculously good... I don't know why it doesn't get more attention. I'd pick it over any of the popular Gyeon coatings any day of the week.”
“So if you go simply by opinions on this post it is clear to see that nobody agrees on any one product. Do whatever you want.”
“Do you consider turtle wax spray coating a coatiing? Apply’s like a spray waxes which applys like a sealant? So a spray wax is a sealant? Very little wax in Fusso and synthetic wax is just a marketing term. Fusso is marketed both as a wax and a coating… first sealants were made to be and called waxes for marketing… doesn’t make them waxes and how you apply it wasn’t the question.”
“Probably most people honestly, I imagine the majority of people on this sub aren’t shelling out big bucks for a ceramic coat”
“The marketing industry has started pushing waxes since enthusiasts always want to top it even if it had a forever coating and ceramic sprays have become so common.”
Another question, your supposed to let your car sit for a week. Is that really necessary? just lmk which yall think is best. (i have experience with detailing and claying etc) submitted by /u/Live-Salt-698 [link] [comme”
“Nah bud he literally just answered the question with a fact and you’re being weird because you know he’s right lol. They said what WAX. That is not a wax. That is all”
“They were in pretty early on the ceramics game. They put out Enviroshield circa 2014 and released a second ceramic coating (Nanoglass) here a few years back. I haven't used either but reviews have been good.”
“The application to me is as easy for ceramics. The ceramics dry easier and wash off easier and do insane things in that category. You'd think it's a harder protection so less micro scratches. Still smells good and fun to apply different ceramics. I'll never go back.. especially when they have ceramic waxes because I enjoy those”
“It's not faster, but I think it has better longevity. I find Griots to be a bit sticky and grabby on the towel, and it's easy to get too much on and have streaks. The Envie also works really well as a "drying-aid" which I know you can do with griots but this is sort of an off-label use. They're very similar products for sure, but try Envie and I bet you like it.”
“Fusso has a minuscule amount of wax in it. Helps with application but main protection ingredients are PtFE and fluorine. Turtle wax calls there ceramic sealant a coating. Has ultra low traces of ceramic… not a ceramic coating. A wax as OP is talking about main ingredients is, well, wax….”
“Do you use the recommended drying aid dilution, 16:1? Seems pretty strong but I assume it works well.”
“Spray and wipe ceramics (basically an express wax) are Ok but they do not have staying power. I use liquid hybrid ceramic wax (wipe on/wipe off) and it holds up for several months. The semi-permanent ceramic coatings are a totally different product. Instead of applying a sacrificial barrier of wax, you are applying basically an after-market clearcoat over the factory clearcoat. This is why most OEMs recommend or require application by certified tech to validate product warranty. Is it worth it?”
“In the best case scenario, a good coating is kind of like a time capsule. It's not a magic bullet, but it does add durability and protection against most of the stuff that attacks paint. Not least of which is added UV protection which keeps your pigments vibrant for longer. Wax and spray on give some protection, but are pretty easily stripped and not nearly as durable. Ceramic actually chemically cross links with the clear coat, and its the difference between a topical barrier/ sacrificial l”
“Hey there, thanks for writing this up - good to have a review of the product to know whether to buy it :D I had a couple of questions - just curious how it's holding up ~5 months down the line, and have you used TW Minute Wax, Graphene Flex Wax or Ceramic Wet Wax, and if you have curious how you think it compares to any of those? :)”
“I don't give one crap about how slick a product is as long as it provides protection. Pure Bead makes a perfect maintenance topper on a ceramic coating, and can also do light duty as stand-alone coating. The principal advantage it has is the ease of application.”
“Why is that nonsense? Seriously, why do you use this product? There must be a reason. I mean, it hardly improves the appearance of the paint. It's just water- and slightly dirt-repellent. Feel free to set me straight.”
“Don't listen to that nonsense. They clearly have never installed a ceramic coating if that's their option about them.”
“you're just wrong dude. "nothing catastrophic" other than the coating failing in like a third of what should be it's useful life.”
“given those two choices Feynlab all day; they were some of the pioneers of ceramic coatings and they make some good ones, Odin is a solid one, a collab they did with THOR. Feynlab's rinseless is also highly regarded.”
“This is what I do for my bike. Rinseless wash with ONR, and while still wet, I spritz Griot's 3in1 ceramic spray on the fairings, wind screen and then dry with a plush micro fiber. Fairings get baby skin smooth and it's easier to clean the next time”
“That is how they themselves are using it. I copied that from their Amazon store. And it just points to the confusion you mention. https://www.amazon.com/Armour-Detail-Supply-Ceramic-Sealant/dp/B0D1DHYS2J?ref_=ast_sto_dp https://preview.redd.it/maqphk668roh1.png?width=1018&format=png&auto=webp&s=0e2571d07a631567bd710e1215ed502cf2dd4258”
“What "ceramic coating" sells for $30??? Either get a solid ceramic spray or a real ceramic coating 💀 Look around this Reddit and you will find plenty of good product recommendations. I personally recommend Carpro CQ UK 3.0 You also need a clay bar for decontamination”
“But that's the thing... I want to be able to put it on to the rubber. It needs protection too. If I can't put it on the rubber for whatever reason, why use that product? Why not use something else that also works fine on those pieces?”
“I would especially do a ceramic coating if your going through a automatic wash regularly. Yeah, you won't get the life expectancy as you would with hand washing, but your sacrificial protection layer will actually prevent your paint from getting swirled up. The coating will take the beating instead of your paint and ceramics won't scratch nearly as easily as soft clear coat. I would be highly sceptical of anyone that will tell you that a spray sealant or wax will do anything to prevent t”
“It is, but I look at it more like the cost of the coating is a drop in the bucket compared to the opportunity cost of prep and installation of the coating. As a DIYer, if the coating is really well proven through a lot of testing, then I am willing to pay $150 vs $100. It's true that you don't know if the product is really better than what you can get from Adam's, Gyeon, CarPro, Gtechniq, etc. but it does seem to be on the higher end.”
“So, of those choices you should pick either Pan's coating or Mohs Evo (do 2 layers, it's not the most durable as 1). Mohs Evo is legit but it is a low solids polysilazane formula, so it has pros and cons. The pro is that it lasts better through extreme temperature swings as it's more "flexible" and it is super easy to apply. The con is that it is low solids so it has less "wow" factor and abrasion resistance than some. Pan's - I'm not sure what it is exact”
“I really like his channel and believe his is very objective. I happen to be in the market for a ceramic coating. My choices are Phoenix eod kronos graphene, Gyeon mohs, and gtechniq crystal. His rankings have me considering Pan 8yr but for obvious reasons im skeptical. submitted by /u/SignOfTheTwine [link] [comments]”
“Optimum Gloss Coat is an SiO2/SiC ceramic blend. Optimum says it'll last 2-3 years with nothing other than washing regularly. I've seen it go 3+ years. Optimum Hyper Shine Ceramic is a high SiO2 content ceramic coating. Super slick and glossy, even easier to apply than Gloss Coat. It is more expensive though. 2 year coating but Optimum tends to rate their coatings on the conservative side. No maintenance required other than regular washes.”
“most don't... most use blenders like https://www.bbblending.com/ceramics and white label.. or make some modifications to products. Esp THOR bros. - that doesn't make them bad products A lot of retail products from milk & bread to coffee and polish are made by the same producer and white labeled If you want owner/chemist/creators i think feynlab is a good product”
“I did some obviously bad research haha and found a lot of videos and people saying this coating was pretty good. Any 1 layer coatings you’d recommend?”
“I'm not a professional detailer but I am a professional painter. From an auto body standpoint ceramic coat is a villain and a nightmare to a painter. I have always strayed away from it so I don't have a lot of knowledge or experience about it. The problem is every time it rains the horizontal panels like the roof,Hood and deck lid obviously leaves a mineral deposit that if you don't get it washed off and redried it bakes on and edges into the ceramic coat and you have to polish it an”
“fireball slickness and hydrophobics out of the gate are top tier (especially dok do/butterfly if certified), but the flash time is notoriously unforgiving if your shop temp and humidity fluctuate even a little. if you don't have dedicated climate control, stick to coatings with wider wipe-off windows so you don't end up chasing high spots.”
“Analysis paralysis is very normal these days. There are so many products to choose from and so many people pushing products and telling you "use this, not that", etc. You've landed on 2 really popular products. Buy them in the smallest amounts possible and try them out. You'll know if you like them or not pretty quickly. A lot of this stuff comes down to personal preference. I'm not a big fan of Reset just because of the cost. I've used it, it's fine, but for $1/oz.”
“A lot of the YouTube lines are private label out of a contract blender, though not all of them. THOR Blending is a blending service, and Jimbo has publicly said he doesn't use it. The SDS won't settle it either, it only lists hazardous components above the cutoff and the percentages can be withheld as trade secret.”
Project Farm has your answer https://youtu.be/1ZsOdRHv_uQ
“Yeah I’m saying why bother with the expensive coat underneath. There is no sacrificial layering happening. You cannot layer “ceramic” sprays or coatings on top of each other, just fill in areas that were missed”
“From what I understand as I have gone down this rabbit hole is making sure your topper has chemical synergy with your ceramic coat. Not all coatings are the same so that mean not all toppers are going to work universally. Certain toppers could actually reduce the effectiveness of your coating depending on the coatings chemical makeup. For example; Griots 3 in 1 has Carnuba wax in it. Depending on the quality and grade of your coating this wax could actually clog the coating. 1st I'd start wi”
