We got rid of fleas then thought it was an allergy to chicken. Removing chicken helped a bit but it seemed to come right back. Weve been trying fish oil to see if it helps. “My cat recently went through two weeks of tresaderm and then animax for a yeast infection in the ear. I noticed some hair loss but red circles(not entirely bumps) have shown up behind her ears and I’m not sure if it’s an allergic reaction. I haven’t seen her scratching her ears so I don’t think it’s irritated from that. Concerned if I should take her back to the vet or if i’m just being paranoid. submitted by /u/frenchchz [link] [comments]”

“I am hoping for some input. My cat, Abner, is itching and biting himself. This has been going on for about 6 weeks. There are no bumps, or flea dirt and flea comb didn’t produce anything. Cats skin looks normal with zero redness or flakiness or apparent dryness There has been no change in diet or environmental factors and no change in usual calm household routine. There are no apparent stressors At the outset, I administered Advantage II thinking it was fleas but this did nothing. Unfortunately”

“https://imgur.com/a/OrK12R3 Photos above! She’s been losing hair for about a yr since I moved to a city in the mountains. Vet says it’s allergies and overgrooming so she has been on a prednisone taper which helped while she was on it but then the hair loss and her ear scabbing got worse when she was off. He recently recommended another steroid taper and then chlorpheneramine 1-2x a day. Anyone have any recommendations? She eats food primarily made of chicken but she’s had that for all her life.”

“My cat has suffered from severe, chronic itching for most of her life, scratching her ears until they bleed and requiring a cone until they heal. Despite seeing multiple vets and a dermatologist, we haven't identified the cause but assuming a combination of food allergies and environmental allergies. The most success came from switching her to Royal Canin Selected Protein PR (rabbit and pea, dry food), which significantly reduced itching but caused prediabetes. Switching to wet food improved”

“we just got rid of fleas on our two indoor cats (probably from our downstairs neighbor... somehow) and came back from being out of town for a few days. one of them has licked a quarter-sized bald spot on his back about two inches down from his shoulders. im going to call our regular vet tomorrow morning anyways, but is there anything i can do for him in the meantime? species: cat age: 5 sex: neutered male breed: dsh body weight: 10 pounds history: when we first got him from the shelter, he was o”

“Hi! I’m looking for some ideas about what could be causing these skin lesions on my cat while I arrange a recheck with her vet. Cleo is a 1-year-old spayed female calico. A few days ago I noticed a small raised/dry, somewhat crusty area behind her ear. She occasionally scratches at it, but otherwise it doesn’t seem to bother her. I took her to the vet and specifically showed them the area. They suggested it could potentially be a mosquito bite since she occasionally spends time outside. I wasn’t”

“I recently got a cat from a coworker about 6 weeks ago and last week noticed a balding spot on her ear that she had been scratching at after being out of town for Labor Day weekend. Took her to the vet and was given an antibiotic injection and oral gabapentin and referred to a specialist for having swollen lymph nodes around the body. Triple scan was all negative. After first round of specialist testing, identified anemia (RBC at about 15%) and elevated WBC/lymphocyte counts. Main suspicions are”

“My cat is 18, neutered male, indoors. EXCEPT he got an arthritis shot recently and a side effect is he's feeling spry enough to shoot out the door to "touch grass" whenever he can. We grab him asap, but I'm guessing I sound get some flea/tick prevention going. These spots are on my shirt after an intense session of scritchies around the ears. Is this evidence of ear mites? “hello everyone! i’ve been struggling with my cats allergies for over a year now and don’t know what to do. she suffers from overgrooming, vomiting, and is severely anxious when she’s having an allergic flare up. she’s lost most of her hair on her stomach and back legs. multiple vet visits and tests have been inconclusive, and i’m looking for some guidance here. we are relatively certain that she has an environmental allergy (for a variety of reasons i won’t go in to) but the vet has yet to give”

“So my cat (4.7 months old7 has had a history of ear problems since before we gene got him at 8 weeks old. He had a bad case of ear mites and had to get 2 doses for it. Then he got an ear infection but his mites were gone and my vet told me to put the med in twice a day for 10 days and I did. However, a week after the 10 days I noticed he is scratching again and shaking his head a lot again and we went to the vet 2 days ago about it but she said his infection is all cleared up but when she took a”

“I've just woken up to feed my cat and noticed that she has a spot that is completely bald behind her right ear that was not there when I went to bed. That seems too sudden to be ringworm or any sort of parasite. She doesn't seem bothered by it and the skin doesn't look sore. Does anyone know what might have caused this? Could she have just gotten her head caught in something? She has a vet visit scheduled (regular checkup) for next week already, but I'm just wondering if anyone h”

“I've had my cat for 8-9 years and last year he started scratching himself obsessively. I went to the vet and he told me it could be an allergic reaction to 3 things. 1) grain and additives in kibble 2) external parasites 3) the body parts of those skin mites that are all over textiles He then went on a treatment plan with prednisone and advantan for that month, changed the food and I gave him a monthly solution for flees and stuff. This year I think only once more did he have to redo the tre”

We moved just about a year ago from a house to now an apartment and his allergies have gotten worse over this past year. Before moving he would occasionally rub his eyes and it would get bad enough to where he had go to the vet and end up on eye drops and antibiotics. “My cats are having allergy issues that cause them to scratch until they bleed and scab. My girl has it worse than my boy. Girl cat got steroid and antibiotic shot 1mo ago and symptoms are returning. Vet says allergy testing then treatment is next but it’s looking like that would be like $700+ for both cats. I’m thinking it’s dust and am going to do my best to deep clean the areas they like to get into. I got an air purifier that I’m hoping will help and it is supposed to arrive in 2 days. Girl h”

“For the last two years my poor British shorthair gets allergies in August. To the point of scratching her head really bad and creating bleeding/scabs. Last year we avoided snack (dreamies) and that seemed to call things down. We haven’t been giving her those treats this year but she is aggravated by something. I took to the vet, got antibiotics and steroids. Things have settled down for now but if we miss a day of steroids she is scratching again. Are there certain food I should avoid giving her”

“Lol the possibilities are endless, apparently. Info: Domestic shorthair, 7 years old, 13lbs, neutered. Very healthy…had ear mites once about 4 years ago, developed anxiety at some point so he’s on cat gabi (for vet visits and moves). He’s been sick once, threw up a big hairball before I could even get him to the vet and turns out he was nauseous because of that. He’s grayish. He’s been scratching intensely at his ears. Now he has no hair there, lots of bumps. This has been going on for three mon”

“Hello, my cat is a little over a year old. unfortunately it’s that time of the year where allergies are making their appearance. she is very shy and timid so i’m scared to take her to the vet and i also don’t wanna be that kind of “cat mom” that takes her to the vet for every small thing. she’s sneezing and has watery eyes but apart from that she’s completely normal. what can i try before i break down and take her to the vet? submitted by /u/Real-Confection-2750 [link] [comment”

“Had a vet visit a little over a month ago and got prescribed antibiotics and told to use same shampoo (Suffusion K) we had from a previous visit. He still has these flaky, itchy spots with some baldness spots around his neck. He has the flaky spots spaced out on his back (not too many), on the tops of his back feet, and sides of his face by the neck. Is there any home remedies or anything we can do before booking another visit? submitted by /u/Slight-Pineapple-791 [link] [comme”

“Hi I have a cat who might be allergic to fleas (1 yo 3 month female neutred with cervico-facal prurit since she is 4 month old). We live in an appartment with a balcony and a lot of plants on it. She loves to go there (like on the flower boxes to take a nap) and we wanted to know how we could make the balcony flea proof for her because even if she is better now the anti flea medication alone does not seems to be sufficient if she goes outside (she is on lotilaner based on our vet recommandation)”

“My cat had otitis externa 3 months ago, and his ear suddenly looks irritated again. He’s been scratching it and shaking his head. I also noticed patches on both sides of his face and around his nose. Not sure if it’s another infection or possibly ringworm. I’m taking him to the vet Saturday. “Hey all- noticed my 17 year old girl has a random bald patch suddenly appear on her ear. As far as I know, there’s been no trauma. She hasn’t been scratching or rubbing. It’s not red or irritated. She’s not on medication and she’s acting completely normal. It’s only been about 8 hours since we noticed it. It seems to have happened overnight. Is this something I should bring her in for? Any idea what could have caused this? Anything we should watch out for? photo here TIA!! :) Edit- forgot to inc”

“My 11 month old cat has been having skin issues for the past 6 months. She gets these huge scabs around her mouth, chin, above her eyes and behind her ears and occasionally on the back of her neck. When it started out, we were told it was cat acne and treated it with wipes, cleanings, new bowls, new food that was less greasy and new water bowls. Then it got worse so we took her to a new vet. The vet treated her for mites as he was concerned it was demodex. So he gave her nexguard and tresaderm d”

“My housemates have a 7 year old female cat with skin allergies (spayed & vaccinated). She’s back up to her usual 8 pounds (her weight loss and fairly sudden over grooming is what sent us to the vet) but we’ve not been able to get her meds into her. I never thought I’d run into a cat I couldn’t pill, but, after 60ish years of caring for cats, I’m stumped. I have accepted defeat (and have the recent scars to prove it). We’d had some luck with hiding the half pill (Apoquel 5.4mg pill, 1/2 pill”

“Hi there! My (7F) cat started over grooming. This is not normal for her. Nothing in our house has changed, diet is the same, work schedules are the same, litter is the same. Nothing to the smallest detail has changed in our lifestyle. Took her to the vet all test are normal. Any advice on what I can do to help her, I feel bad getting her gabapentin almost everyday. Currently I have a pheromones collar on her, cat grass and make sure I play with her more. Maybe an anti-itch spray? Any advice (She”

“TL;DR: Indoor cat with intermittent face/ear/neck itching and overgrooming. Previously had ringworm for about a year but is now testing negative. Littermate unaffected, parasites treated, hydrolyzed diet, no obvious ear infection, and we’ve minimized household allergens. Antihistamines help. Vet suspects environmental allergies. My 7-year-old indoor cat has recurring itching, mainly around her ears, face, chin and neck, plus general overgrooming of her belly, legs and sides. Her ears can get pin”
