Owners of various vehicles report intermittent rattling, jingling, or dragging noises coming from the transmission area, often worsening at idle or during acceleration. The issue is difficult to diagnose and persists despite recent repairs or inspections.

“Hello, I own a 2010 Toyota Corolla LE 1.8L, and ever since I bought the car last year it has this rattling noise that sporadically happens when the car is in idle. I don't hear it when I'm driving. I posted a video of it, and you can hear it going on and off at the beginning of the video and once towards the end. Does anyone know what that sound is? submitted by /u/Informal_Buy_950 [link] [comments]”

“Hi all, I have this 2008 Honda ridgeline (engine is Honda J35A9) with a modest 314,000 miles on it. Noticed a “noisier than usual” engine noise happening the last couple days that I haven’t heard before, and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what they might be. I do have a CEL on for P0430 which started a couple days before I noticed the noise. No other stored codes or anything. The noise is a metallic sort of rattling noise that sounds almost like a heat shield vibrating or somet”

“My 2012 Mercedes e350 is making a rattling kind of noise when it’s idling. Does anyone know what could possibly be the reason for this? Sounds like it’s from the belts? “I’ve been chasing this rattling noise for some time now. it gets louder on decel, but sometimes the noise won’t even be there. It’s especially noticeable in the morning. The truck also doesn’t always crank first time you turn the key. Almost as if it has to get through some compression strokes before it can make a full revolution. Trucks runs great other than dipping 50-100 rpm’s on idle every so often. Uses a timing belt so I’m thinking it may be a timing belt tensioner bearing? Any info welcom”

“My friend's car (Mazda 626 V Hatchback 2.0) has a weird rattling sound when lifting off the gas pedal. It can also be heard while driving at lower RPMs, in 2nd and 3rd gear. (Those loud injection sounds are because of an LPG conversion; this rattling sound can also be heard when it runs on gasoline). Does anyone have an idea what it might be? submitted by /u/BimkyGuy [link] [comments]”

Transmission fluid didn't read cold but read when hot, it is full and relatively clean. “Hello, I am in the process of diagnosing the noise coming from my little brother’s toyota corolla. For context, this noise only seems to appear when the engine is at operating temps and is especially audible when the car is sitting and idling. Any ideas as to what it could be? I am thinking it’s some pulley bearing along the serpentine belt going bad, but I need a second opinion as to what the noise could point to. Also, how urgent is this to fix? I want to make sure he doesn’t get left stranded”

“Anybody have any suggestions on what this noise could be? I have a 2011 VW Passat with the DQ250 box. I've already had the dual mass flywheel changed as I originally thought it was that. Noise only used to occur under load until the car reaches temp, just did a 3k mile roadtrip and now it's chattering at temp but not so loud. Could it be clutch packs? Still shifts well, but might be a bit juddery during clutch heavy maneuvres if I'm being picky. submitted by /u/mattrwy [l”

But it’s in neutral the whole time and depends where I move the lever. But it’s separate transmissions for each wheel yet it’s happen to both ? How would it happen to both at once? “I have a 2017 Mazda Miata, 6 speed manual, JM1NDAL77H0106045. You can clearly hear the strange rattling noise towards the end of this video. I have multiple ways I have found to replicate this noise. Sitting in neutral idling the noise will appear seemingly at random. I can sit still in any gear with the clutch down/no throttle and it will eventually begin to rattle. I can sit in neutral with the clutch up and lightly blip the throttle. “My 2019 WRX is making a rattle or vibration noise when decelerating. I notice it most when traveling between 30-45mph and starts almost immediately when I let off the throttle. The very second that I even lightly rest my foot on the throttle, it goes away. It sounds like it’s coming from right by the front passenger’s feet. “2019 Explorer XLT 2.3L I thought it was the serpentine belt or tensioner. Once I finally opened my hood to diagnose, I realized it was coming from the other side of the engine, driver side. Its loud on initial start up and whines/buzzes loudly as the gas is pressed. It will get quieter after like 5 min of driving but I believe it still lingers. Haven't checked if it completely quiets after a drive though. Anyone has any ideas? submitted by /u/tezfc [link] [comments]”
