“i mean i want to make a game without Ai but i have zero knowledge of code and what not and i always wanted to make a game on how old developers do or at the least simple but the core issue is if i had ai and people to tutor me would i face backlash or something. i mean idk what…”
“Please don't bash me, i just can't understand why using overused assets like synthy from the asset store is a smaller sin than using AI.”
“I posted here earlier, but I wasn’t honest about how much AI I used. I deleted that post, and I’m sorry for that. I used AI for much of the code, to generate some of the artwork from my sketch, and for the video thumbnail. I worked on the story, the game’s art direction…”
Two posts express concerns about the increasing prevalence and expectation of using AI in game development. One post questions how much AI is acceptable, while another admits to using AI for code generation and artwork but feels conflicted about it.

“Hello, I am newish to Unity and I have an idea for a small game I want to develop. For me, I want to avoid using AI for coding as I feel it is not helping me even without direct code generation. For using tutorials and following them to understand what they are doing and applying that to my game, is this the right approach for using them or am I missing the point with them. Sorry if there is no good answer to this post, I feel that starting gamedev right now is really hard as everyone is obsesse”
“I’m a solo developer working with Unity, Godot, and Unreal. I’m considering trying a local AI coding assistant for scripting, debugging, and questions about engine APIs, partly because I’d prefer to keep my project code on my own machines. I’m not expecting AI to build a game for me. I’m wondering whether local models are useful as a coding companion when you give them project files and the correct engine documentation. If you’ve used one in a real game project, what has it helped with, and wher”
“Hey everyone, I started a top-down pixel art RPG about a day ago and I'm honestly surprised how far it came using AI. Most of it was built with AI tools — sprites generated with AI and AI coding assistants to build the systems in Godot. As a solo dev still learning the engine, the speed genuinely caught me off guard. Some of the mechanics are inspired by World of Warcraft, Diablo and Tibia: - A talent tree per class (multiple branches, similar to WoW specs) - Item rarity tiers - Dungeons pla”
“Hey guys, I wanted to ask what people generally consider to be AI slop. I’m currently building a game completely solo, and I’ve been working on it for about 5 months now. I do everything myself all the pixel art, buildings, environments, characters, level design, narrative, etc. I’m also handling the sound and music alongside everything else. The one area I’ve never been particularly good at is coding, and unfortunately I can’t afford to hire someone to help me with it. Because of that, I use AI”

“im not using ai for everything, ai will be mostly used for coding (and maybe some backgrounds) beacuse i dont know how to code at all. everything else from soundtrack, character designs, and so on... the game will not look "ai" not when you think of ai game its not gonna be that its gonna look proper like a game should and most of the people would not think that it was made by ai (i mean how could they if art is made by me) but what im asking is that if i make a game like that will i b”
“We are a 2 man team. Our AI policy is as follows: Strict no AI generated media/game assets, including any music, textures, etc. Strict AI- assisted programming only (Github Copilot) - logic, algorithms, etc are handled mostly by the devs. Agency or creative control is never given to AI, and we never vibe code. Additionally, though I am ashamed to admit it, AI does speed research up significantly if you are a complete beginner in a particular field. Not just taking what the bot says as objective”

“I’m curious how developers and artists would approach this situation. Say I’m building a game and use AI-generated textures and 3D models during development. Before the final release, I want to hire artists to create the actual production assets instead of shipping the generated ones. The part I’m struggling with is what happens when I already really like the look of the placeholders. If I give an artist those models and textures and say, “I like this direction; can you remake these?” they would”

I used AI for much of the code, to generate some of the artwork from my sketch, and for the video thumbnail. I worked on the story, the game’s art direction, gameplay decisions, testing and revisions. I hate AI slop too. But in this 3 months, seeing things I’d imagined and sketched take shape in a playable game made me fall in love with making games. It gave me something to look forw”
“I‘m currently working on my first real project, after returning from the first try to really learn UE5. As an example: I‘m doing some coding with codex, and let it help me with creating base meshes in Blender + some Textures. I‘m also trying to understand and doing stuff myself. Paralell to the work in the UE5 itself, I am taking lessons on Udemy. What do you guys think, how much AI is too much? What are good use cases for AI, espacially for beginners? I dont talk about producing slop, but let h”
