“Located in Toronto, and I was quoted $40k for an all aluminum roof for 2000sq feet roof. I forget the pitch but it is pretty low. I just want to spot check if this is a sane number as I can't see any other all-aluminum roofing companies out there.”
“We recently moved into a house with these metal slate shingles on the roof. We currently are working with a roofer on fixing some places that wildlife and severe weather have bent out of shape over the years, and they asked if I knew what the make of the roof was. I have no…”

“Just had my roof replaced, including new plywood decking, by a highly rated roofing company. Looking for honest feedback from professional roofers before I raise my concerns with them. A few things happened: Safety : Crew started working without introducing themselves or explaining the process. When I tried to take my kids to school, every entrance was blocked by tarps, with heavy debris falling directly outside the door. The foreman's response when I questioned this was, "You didn'”
“I had a leak in a section of my front porch that rotted the decking, fascia, and soffit. The roofer told me this likely happened because of an exposed, rusted nail. Apparently, there are more rusted, exposed nails throughout the roof, which begs the question of whether I should just replace the entire roof. The roof is about 17 years old, and about 2 years ago, I had a 'tune-up' done to try to extend its life. I got quoted $1200 to repair the rotted section (decking, fascia, soffit, etc)”
“We recently moved into a house with these metal slate shingles on the roof. We currently are working with a roofer on fixing some places that wildlife and severe weather have bent out of shape over the years, and they asked if I knew what the make of the roof was. I have no documentation from previous owners (they are all deceased now so I can't even call them up and ask), but these four spares were in the attic. There is no writing or etching on them anywhere, so I can't identify the br”
I posted what I was thought was a failed gutter and gutter guard installation earlier this week and was told in no uncertain terms that it was a terrible job. https://www.reddit.com/r/homeowners/s/rGuh0itTnU So…
“Hi Roofing, I'll be presenting a list of options to my church's committee this weekend on replacing our roof, and the deeper I look the less certain I am on which are the best offers. I've decided to post the background to this question as a comment below, but the main question is: Which shingle brand do you like the most, out of...?: CertainTeed Patriot XL, Landmark, Landmark PRO, Presidential; Malarkey Hilander AR; GAF Timberline HDZ; and PABCO Premier. The general vibe I've re”
“I have what I believe is a 10-11 year old modified bitumen flat roof. I have had multiple roofing companies come out who either quote thousands of dollars in repairs or recommend full replacement. I am not quite sure if this roof is truly at end of life or if roofing companies are just trying to get me to buy a new roof. There are a handful of seams lifting and some granules on the gutter guards. No leaks that I’m aware of. Is it worth trying to get a few more years of life out of it by using ma”
“I have your last on my house for the past 12 to 13 years it's been holding up well but I would really like to put a coating over the whole roof. I've patched it along the way but I'm just trying to extend the end of life of it. So my question is what would be the best chemicals to completely clean all the built up black spots in order to put a new coating and what type of coating would be best applied to it? Something I can buy as a homeowner I don't have access to buy the durala”
“I had a bit of work done on my house and I mentioned that my next project was to tackle the roof and the gutters. He told me that my gutters were steel and to not let anyone talk me into getting rid of them. They are still in good condition and just need some general repair work, mostly to fix some sagging. But they don’t leak and are holding up ok. My question: are there really steel gutters? And if so, are they really worth keeping and not replacing (assuming they are still in good shape)? ”
“I am in need of a new roof (Nor Cal). I want to save more $ in case more is needed to be done than estimated. My question for the experts on this sub do you think the roof will last one more winter? There is a lot of granular loss no leaks that I’m aware of. submitted by /u/Gold_Albatross_5100 [link] [comments]”
“Roofing company I'm using to replace the roof that my insurance company is paying for is has recommended using GAF Timberline HDZ Shingles are those quality? submitted by /u/Bluest_waters [link] [comments]”
“My neighbor just had his concrete tile roof replaced with new metal roofing material. It’s shaped just like the previous roofing tile, but has a textured, stone like finish. It looks really nice. We got a quote on a roof replacement a few years ago for new tile. Would this metal product be about the same? Less than tile but more than asphalt? submitted by /u/Blue_Etalon [link] [comments]”
“Hello, I am getting a new roof and had 3 companies give me quotes. I never have had to deal with this and wanted a bit of insight and opinions. All these are local companies with good reviews Company 1, most expensive Atlas class 3 shingles. Company 2, mid price about 1k less GAF class 3 shingles. Company 3, cheapest 700 lower than 2 IKO class 3 shingles. All quotes included the same thing. delivery and disposal, drip edge/gutter apron, flashing, ice/water shield and synthetic underlayment etc.”
“I'm thinking I'm going to have to replace this metal roofing on my shop at some point in the near future. I'm not totally sure of the age, but I'm guessing between 20-30 years old. There are no leaks, currently, but I'm not sure how much longer I can say that. submitted by /u/MrObakemono [link] [comments]”
“I know kick-outs are needed when the end of a roof intersects a sidewall, but this isn't really a "wall"... just a couple trim boards on the porch overhang. I'm curious if a kick-out should have been installed here. I don't see any rot on the trim, for what's worth. P.S. I am aware that the z-flashing above the gutter should not have been caulked. I will be removing the caulk soon. submitted by /u/JustShipItYOLO [link] [comments]”
“Especially on asphapt shingles. Solar guys destroy the shingles. And the shingoes dont even last as long as the solar so youre paying an extra 10 grand to remove and reattach solar on top of a new roof cost. Dumb.”
“What gauge is that metal? Probably 28 or 26? I would paint it. Use some kind of rust converter then paint”
“You won’t see leaks typically until it’s very bad. You don’t want to wait until it’s on the inside of ur shop to do something about this.”
“Multiple different coating you could apply to get you 5-10 more years easy. Prep by cleaning surface rust, sealing or replacing fasteners with oversized, rust inhibitor and then coat. You could do silicone, acrylic or even a fibrous aluminum coating. I’d vote a two part acrylic but that would also be your more expensive option. Still cheaper than replacing.”
“This!!! We do this all the time in SoCal. Look for a reputable fluid mfg and ask them for recs/ specs to achieve their mfg warranty and an approved installer.”
