“Got my roof done, how does it look? Am wearing sandals so didn’t go up yet to check it out. Certainteed Landmark Pro Moire Black. 19K total. 2 days on-site, cleaned up well after, and looks great. submitted by /u/Purple_Cell_8386 [link] [comments]”

I’m trying to find some gear that will hold up to the rain and abrasion requirements of roofing, particularly the jacket and shoes. I’m considering taking an old carhartt jacket and waxing it then putting some sorta waterproofing spray on it. I’ve got a pair of leather boots that I’m using but they’re not meant for working and it’s definitely wearing them out quicker than they should. Your”

“Howdy, I’m brand new to roofing but have been in construction for quite a few years, and long story short I was hired on to roof seasonally. I’ll be coming back in a few months, I’m in southern Alaska, so generally cold and wet. I wasn’t required to bring any tools for this season for several different reasons but next year I want to be prepared, we do almost entirely residential asphalt shingles and I’m the only guy who really knows anything about carpentry so I replace anything rotten. I want”

“I'm from Canada, and with all the non-sense coming from the USA, I'm looking for an alternative to S-5 clamps that isn't made in the USA. Especially since there's likely tariffs coming that will increase prices. 38 degree angle standing seam metal roof. There's a lot of snow here, although the angle helps it slide off every few days. submitted by /u/tdelamay [link] [comments]”

“I have a low-slope roof I’d like to get replaced ahead of El Niño—does anyone have any recommendations as far as material? I’m near Joshua Tree, CA so it would need to hold up well in heat, wind, and the very occasional monsoon. I’ve heard foam does well but I’ve also read horror stories in the sub, so any suggestions or advice would be welcome! Thanks so much! submitted by /u/partlyhold [link] [comments]”

“So Alaska is have a very wet/cold summer and all the roofers are backed up. The roofer I had lined up to do my 170 sqft roof bailed on me. Several others passed on the job as it is too small. I need to get this done soon. Nighttime temps are going to drop in the next few weeks. I have a weather window coming up this week, but no roofer, so I am going to DIY it. I will be bonding the 60 mil Carlisle membrane directly to newly-installed OSB. I plan to sand down any steps between sheets and any sha”

“Does anybody have a list of go to durable and reliable safety gear (Shoes, harness, etc) for roofing? We do residential roofing and my cousin’s son wants get into the industry, but i typically dont wear specific roofing gear for our work. I dont want to risk his safety so hoping to find reliable items for a new worker with no tools or gear submitted by /u/Top_Ship2178 [link] [comments]”

“I have a two story cape in New England where the back roof is 1/12 with over 20 year old SBS rollout. No issues yet, but looking worn and want to replace before any issues. Down to two roofers, based on material really. One is a strong believer in EPDM and seems to do it well from job images, including his own home. Other does not see the cost benefit. Guy advising rollout is $6k SBS rollout, $12k EPDM. Guy advising EPDM is $8k SBS rollout or $9.5k EPDM. I also have no attic access or way to get”

“I know nothing about flat roofs but wanted to learn some real-world experiences and opinions from pros. Is there a system that is objectively the “best” in all instances but perhaps just not used due to cost or is it truly application specific? I am still a bit confused on MODBIT. Is this the same thing as torch down? What system is most preferable if you worry about penetrations from trade on the roof? EPDM on the surface seems like the joints (even primed and glued) would be weak. I am in an a”

“I scored a solid temp roofing gig up in Sitka Alaska, I’ve never done roofing before and I’m just trying to figure out what sorta stuff I should bring with. I’m assuming a solid pair of sneakers instead of boots, any recommendations on brand/model? Any pants in particular stand out for durability/comfort? How important will sun protection be? Typically I’d assume very, but being in Sitka I’d assume it’s much more overcast and rainy than most places Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!”

“Hi everyone! Im a partner at a roofing company in Florida, and I've recently been tasked with growing and expanding our commercial roofing division. Currently, most of our commercial projects come through referrals. I've also bid on several projects with local counties and cities, but I'm looking to learn how other successful commercial roofing contractors are consistently generating new leads and opportunities. For those of you who have successfully grown a commercial roofing divisi”

“I live in MN. we had a bad hail storm on my street (apparently the only one in the whole neighborhood, and it obliterated my roof and siding. I have consulted different contractors and one of them is pushing IKO Nordic and the other one is pushing Malarkey Vista, another one is pushing the panthera? (Couldn't find it) and the last one is pushing timberland UHDZ with ultramat or the timberland ASII. As yall know we get tons of snow, rain, hail and sun here im MN. Therefore I summon the reddit”

“The eavestrougher is seperate from the roofer. Op should have had a roofer out to look at drip edge, facia and shingles bf new eaves are installed. The eavestrougher was just doing their job what the customer asked for. A lesson learned to check top to bottom when doing roof and gutter repairs”

r/Roofing

“Get her money back now. That repair is going to cost that much to fix. They need to fix all that drip edge. Insane.”

r/Roofing

“The gutters are done well enough, $2800 well? ABSOLUTELY NOT. for 28, that crew better do my dishes and fix my lawnmower. More importantly, her roof is sagging in spots. that 2800 could have gone to fixing/replacing her roof. Sue tf out of them.”

r/Roofing

“We do know, you can ALWAYS get up behind it. They are not, anywhere. The hangers, are fine. Picture 3 is NOT fine, that drip metal is pulled up to far, and will 100% let water behind the gutter. 25+ years and 4 states of doing gutter. If you think pic 3 is "fine" you've never pulled drip metal, ever.”

r/Roofing

“Maybe they couldn't go higher because of slope, we don't know... All the pictures show as the eaves being behind the flashing? Picture 3 is fine jeez Why is no one talking about the cheap brackets?”

r/Roofing

“Usually a mobile home 74' in length tops (somtimes more, 80ish), 150' for 3k is crazy, $19/LF. They pulled all that drip metal, to put the gutter UNDER it - is normal, but they didn't even run the gutter all the way up under it? My price is around $10/LF to start for 1 story. Picture 3 they lifted the drip too far, water is 100% going to go behind the gutter there. Generally a good smack will get it back in place, assuming it's still water tight. All that gutter should def be hig”

“Insane how someone can rip off an old lady that obviously dosnt have allot!”

r/Roofing

“No $2800 for a double wide gutters is a rip for sure. Property estimator here. Maybe $1500 at the most this job should have cost”

“She didn't get ripped off at all. I would be concerned about why is there soffit damage. Could be roof issues”

“Often there is subfacia used (2 6) and in that case no need to seek tail. Most often the facia is metal because no one wants to paint anymore. If it is only 1 6 then yes agree fully.”

r/Roofing

“Fascia boards are SOMETIMES 2x6 but 1x6 is much more prevalent. And yes you should line your hangers up with the rafter tail.”

r/Roofing

“The fascia board is usually a 2x6 and attached to the rafter tails. No one is going to try to hit the tails through that.”

r/Roofing

“Gutters attach to the rafter tails not the fascia. So the condition of the fasica is only relevant in that the gutters will need removed and reinstalled soon. Wrong order of operations.”

r/Roofing

“Yeah the drip edge I’m sure was blatant laziness and not wanting to get down and go grab snips. Just finished a roof and at the end was asked to talk to homeowners about the satellites. We were to remove them. I ended up on the roof alone and everyone except the business owner left. We ended up bending our brand new drip against the gable. Boss man didn’t make any attempt to fix it. Not my pony, not my show. But I personally think it was left looking like shit.”

r/Roofing

“The installers most likely couldn’t get the gutters up high enough and / or get screws in the brackets so they had to bend the edging up to do it. Ask the installers to bend the drip edge back down. They might bitch about it because they’ll probably have to notch the edging wherever a bracket is but it should be bent back into place. KD”

r/Roofing

“They knew wood wasn’t solid. Thats why they put so many hangers. They didn’t want to come back”

r/Roofing

“I think the gutters look fine, just might need a new roof, drip edge, fascia and soffit to go with them”

r/Roofing

“Anywhere you are roofing, have a rashguard, easiest way to keep you from burning and I swear by em. Boots for roofing have a spongy pad under that you get from the supply store usually, have sneakers for walking kit on a roof. I’m sure there is Alaska specific stuff for the cold so that’ll be a factor in. OSHA probably has some good stuff specific to colder climate roofing (I’ve never done roofing under 45° f because there wasn’t a need here) Also I’m pretty sure you can only boat or fly stuff i”
