“Yeah those look like black fly larvae. My composter had screens so they couldn't fly out. They'd end up as part of the compost instead of flying away I guess. I think they are pretty disgusting but you get used to it. [re: Composting]”
“I've found multiple flies in my house, they kind of don't fly? They JUMP. I will say due to having 2 jobs and stress I haven't been able to keep my house as clean as I'd like. So if they are here for the trash and food I get it but I'm actively cleaning. Please help submitted by /u/Next-Fact [link] [comments]”

“Hi! I live in Italy, region Lombardy, Pianura Padana. One week ago they came: tiny little bugs (like 1 mm), the just walk, don't fly. There are a lot, near every door and windows and they keep enter in my house... What are they and how can i stop them? Thanks in advance submitted by /u/ilbuonrik [link] [comments]”
“Hello! I’m writing to here in desperation. These little flies have been in our kitchen for over 3 months now. We’ve plugged the sink overnight daily, done drain treatments, kept food in cupboards, kept the surfaces clean, taken bins out regularly – and still the flies keep reappearing. They don’t look like fruit flies that we’ve encountered before (more black than brown) and don’t think(?) they’re drain flies as they’re not super fluffy. They do tend to congregate around the sink though. Also, t”

“For context, moved into a renovated urban New England apartment in a pretty old building about 2 months ago. We’ve been dealing with a phorid fly problem from the trash chute that has since mostly cleared up. Yesterday we found our first cockroach which definitely spooked us, especially because we knew this building has had mice in the past. While I don’t have a photo of the roach, we noticed three of what we believe might be smaller roaches beneath our oven where we found the first one. We appl”
“Hi everyone! I have had a phorid fly issue in my apartment for a bit that has gotten much better with Invade Biodrain. However, recently I noticed a different kind of fly that got stuck in a UV vacuum trap I have in the restroom. There are two there currently that were not there a few days ago and I have no clue what they are! I know they aren’t phorid or fruit flies, but no idea otherwise. For extra information, I do not have any plants at all and I live on the top floor. Like I said, I keep my”
“There's gotta be at least 200 of them.I don't know where they're coming from.I have flypaper with at least a hundred individual. help me please they are in my basement i sleep down there. submitted by /u/feetandellie [link] [comments]”
“Yes it's up against the plastic on the window. I can get a new picture tomorrow of the inside coils. I was too respectful to get any closer to the nest while it was functional. I'm looking through the screen from the inside of the greenhouse and this is the cover over the window to protect against wind. https://preview.redd.it/1iouhxoyy4uh1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81aa36513b061ce5b9485fbacb24417363c6ed88 [re: My love for spiders and bugs keeps me from caring f”

“For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been dealing with these extremely tiny flies. At first I thought they were drain flies because I was seeing them mostly in my bedroom/bathroom, but now my sister has told me she’s seeing them all over the house too. They’re very small, dark/brownish, move REALLY fast, and are difficult to kill because they fly away almost immediately when I try to get them. They don’t look fuzzy or moth-like to me. Someone suggested they could be phorid/scuttle flies, but I’m n”
“The more I kill the more pop up. They like to bounce between the corners of walls and I’ve killed at least 150 since moving in to my apartment. I can’t stand it anymore they keep flying into me I’ve started sucking them up in a vacuum but more pop up. I even have a fly trap I plugged in and it gets filled up but some don’t even acknowledge it. I have to leave for a week and I’m worried leaving my room empty with all these bugs here seemingly multiplying exponentially. submitted by /u”
“There’s like an overwhelming amount of house flies in my living room and I have no idea where they came from. My windows are always closed. I had dry cat food and a litter box in that area but it’s been like 2 weeks and nothing, then poof one day a giant swarm. I have sticky traps on the living room radiator. The one on the wall isn’t catching anything. I’m so confused. They’re like house flies not small fruit flies or such. submitted by /u/llehnievili [link] [comments]”
“We seem to have an infestation of these things, and they appear to bite. Any tips to on how to get rid of them? I can’t seem to locate the source and they’re found on every floor of the 3-storey house. submitted by /u/Contrarian_Whitey [link] [comments]”
“We currently have an influx of these in my apartment, I thought they were fruit flies but they’re bigger and slower moving than what we’re used to! Also, any tips to get rid of them? “I keep finding dead flies in my apartment then flushing them down the toilet and yesterday I found 2 on my bed which is the unusual part the other places like window seals I’ve had sprayed pest control sprays and insect killing powder so finding them there is expected. I never leave my windows open either plus I take out the trash regularly and checked under the sink for any leaks but it was fine. I don’t even know if this is just no big deal or something concerning since to my knowledge I don’t”
“We have been plagued with these tiny flies all week! They’re not fruit flies as they don’t care about the ACV trap. And I have no house plants in the house at all for them to be fungus gnats. Too small to be cluster flies, etc! It all started on Saturday. I have scrubbed the whole window frame with mould spray which seemed to decrease the numbers for a few hours but it’s incessant. They don’t move much really, but definitely fly, and seem to emerge from the window frame itself then stay on the w”

“Woke up 5 days ago to like 20-30 green bottle flies in my upstairs bathroom. Took awhile to deal with it but I got by. Yesterday morning there were 20-30 flesh flies in my upstairs bathroom. Still catching stragglers today, only dont have photos because I just got done killing 5 and looking for help. I'm guessing the obvious answer is that some animal died in my house. I haven't smelled anything out of the ordinary at all the past week. I checked my attic and crawl space, nothing there.”
“I have tried looking up to see what type of bug are they. I tried setting an apple cider vinegar trap if they were fruit flies. Didn't work. I tried using some sort of spray for nats and mosquitos. Didn't work. I woke up to seeing a bunch of these guys flying around my bed and vanity and saw that there were so many of them. I think they are multiplying and I have no idea where they are coming from. There are no indoor plants nearby, or food and trash (did have a Dr pepper nearby but that”
“What kind of fly is this and how do I get rid of them? They congregate around my electrical outlets at night and then die on my counters. We installed Zevos and that’s killing dozens of them but not getting rid of them entirely. Whatever Orkin is doing isn’t helping. submitted by /u/NotALawyerButt [link] [comments]”
“Been seeing these a lot recently and I have no clue why. Randomly started appearing as the weather cooled down and I removed my window AC unit. Mostly see them near the window where my AC used to be. Maybe 2-4 a day? Usually quite small. submitted by /u/culprittt [link] [comments]”

“So, I feel like this is going to be downvoted because it's going to sound a bit ridiculous and weird to people who don't deal with what I'm dealing with, but I am curious on whether it's possible my issue is the reason phorid flies started infesting my apartment. Yes, I have identified them as phorid flies. They are very small, hump backed, and love to crawl and scuttle. Whether you think what I'm dealing with is real or in my head, could you still hypothetically answer my qu”
“I think it's the neighborhood cats killing small animals around here. Or the plum trees in the backyard dropping fruit this time of year. On a typical day when it was warm yesterday and then it gets cold today I get about 10 house flies in my house. But it's a constant problem in the summertime. I'm talking about flies that are metallic blue or green and about a quarter inch long. Bottle flies I think is the name. I have a Zevo (sp?) plug in blue light thing that is supposed to attra”
“Hi, I’ve lived in my northeast home for two years and have bottle flies/blow flies in my home everyday from may-September arranging from a few to over a dozen depending on heat/sunshine. I’ve had my home treated three times this summer which doesn’t seem to do anything. Pest control, myself, or anyone doesn’t notice any smell that would explain the flies. It seems I’ve tried every solution and nothing keeps them out. I’m hoping someone has advice/recommendations. Maybe you have had a similar iss”
“i recently came back to my apartment after 4 months away. my roommate left later than me so our apartment was only vacant for like a month an a half. we’ve been noticing these little flies and so far we’ve only seen one at a time but i saw three in my room today and I’m starting to get worried as i have no idea what they are and where theyre coming from. we did leave some stuff in the fridge and saw that a couple flies were dead in the fridge but most of the sightings were jn my room which has i”
“Hello. My husband and I recently moved into a new home and everything was fine until recently. There are probably 60+ flies in our home. I clean every weekend, the trash gets taken out every other day, there is no spoiled food… but I have no idea where they are coming from. It seems like everyday there are 20 more. It is super frustrating so I’m seeing how to get rid of them. We have already bought the glue traps that go in the windows and we have probably caught 30… but now they won’t land on t”

“Hi guys, any sort of input is appreciated. I’ve lived in current house for about 9 months and barely saw any flies until around 4 weeks ago, not even during the hottest days in June and July (or at least hadn’t noticed) Since then I’ve started seeing a mix of green/blue bottle flies and normal-looking house flies in my dining room, kitchen, corridor and living room. There’s an unused fireplace in my dining area, and whilst there are closable doors between kitchen and dining/corridor, the living”
“Hi all, I currently have 3-4 of these flies in my basement. At least they look like flies to me. I don’t see any stingers or anything. My fear is that they’re not flies but some other insect, and their presence is evidence of a bigger problem. What do these critters look like to you? Please tell me they’re just regular house flies. Also, whatever they are, could you please tell me how to address this issue? Thanks so much! submitted by /u/Istobri [link] [comments]”

“for context i’m based in the uk and i never and i mean NEVER open my windows especially my bedroom window. i have a slight issue with bottle flies, ive found around 15-20 in my bedroom more specifically my bedroom window since around mid june time. had a little bit of a break end of july, found just one until yesterday i found four more. one flying in my room and three in my window throughout the day. at first i thought maybe it was a small tree that i had growing right outside my bedroom window”
“Hiya does anyone know what these flies are? They seem to reproduce like crazy, I suddenly have loads of them and they cover these sticky things every night (I have to change them) and are drawn to light (the sticky things are around a small electric light that draws them in an night, otherwise I kill them when they're drawn to the window light, I've killed hundreds!) Only started pouring hot water and drain cleaner down the drains the past 24 hours in case that helps, but would be great”
“I am seeing 2-5 flies at a time, only in my bathrooms and nowhere else in the home. I’m unfortunately dealing with a minor infestation and have tried to DIY address it, but will be calling an exterminator as nothjng seems to be working. Any help identifying it or offering solutions? “yeah as the title says I caught and killed 2 flies that were on the windows but they were making creepy noises not buzzing but like idk scratching on the windows. my ac broke down and maintenance must let them in but what flys would these be? “Woke up yesterday to my house (living room/kitchen in particular) swarming with blow flies. I’m assuming they’re rather there because we have a lot of natural light and not as much in our bedrooms. They’re all over the windows and no matter how many I kill, they keep reappearing. Woke up today, hoping that I killed them all however they were all over the windows and on our balcony door again. We bought some Zevo plug in fly trappers but they weren’t effective. We keep our house very clean with n”
“Two days in a row now, I have gotten up in the morning to let my dogs out my back door and found a dozen or more flies all sitting on the same window in my basement. The first time was certainly odd, now it’s alarming. I cannot figure out where they’re coming from or why they are all in the same area. They aren’t anywhere else in my house. Any suggestions for figuring out where they’re coming from and how to deal with it are appreciated. submitted by /u/AceSeptre [link] [commen”
“I’ve been driven slowly insane, there’s so many house flies that just keep popping up, I’ve got a tiny gap in my screen door I think they’re coming in through. I’ve been spraying them with windex, bleach, vinegar, soapy water, and alcohol but none of these actually kill the fly, at best they might stun it long enough for me to smash them. I’ve been cleaning around the areas the congregate looking for a breeding spot but haven’t found one yet. Is there an oil I can put down that repeals them? I’m”
“Suddenly have hundreds/thousands of these tiny bugs crawling all over the outside of my house, around the walls and windows (back of the house only). A few have also made their way inside. I hosed the walls down yesterday which reduced them, but they’ve started coming back. There is quite a lot of vegetation nearby. Any idea what they are, why there are suddenly so many and how best to get rid of them? Photos attached. Thanks! submitted by /u/Key_Dinner_3262 [link] [comments]”
“As the title says I’ve been have a tiny fly infestation everywhere. in. my. apartment. I see a bunch of dead ones by: our guest shower drain and vent, kitchen floor by fridge, laundry room door??? (Mostly alive and hanging out), by our staircase and window sill by staircase (got some plants there), etc… etc… I would say these are fungus gnats but honestly I have no idea why they are pretty much everywhere but where most of my plants remain (while I see some by my plants I see way more in other a”

“Going crazy. We’ve been in this apartment for a month and we have a crazy infestation that has been coming and going. Treated drains, clean a bunch, etc. Hundreds were coming from the window, which is being replaced. Realized they were breeding in the litter box recently and now there are even more. My question is this: what are they and what can pest control do about the outside issue? I’m guessing it’s from the soil outside, so do they just spray as much as they can? submitted by /”
“So there were no flies in my room two days ago and so I wasn’t really concerned. Yesterday however I noticed 2 flies and today there are 9 of them. I noticed 7 earlier just sitting on my window but since then, I’ve closed my blinds and 2 more have appeared. Does anyone know why this happened and how to get rid of them? I’m pretty sure they’re houseflies. submitted by /u/Responsible_Bit_4898 [link] [comments]”
“I have this fly infestation in my apartment. My landlord sent a cheap exterminator over who sprayed around a little. I was able to get rid of a lot with spray. I've cleaned out my bathroom and kitchen sink drains with vinegar, baking soda and draino cleaner, but they are still around, mainly around entrance points to rooms, sinks and windows. I've sealed up cracks around where my AC units are in my windows. There are not as many but still a good number. I'm having the exterminator co”
