“I've recently had my HVAC system replaced. The blower motor seems to deliver air differently. I have dampers on all the supply-side ductwork - How do I go about 'rebalancing' for optimum flow? Is there a pressure sensor tool that can help measure to balance the air delivery?…”
“I got a 1 stage blower and at first it wasnt annoying us but while watching a movie it kinda gets in the background noise. And its close to the bedrooms Any help is appreciated I have already changed my filter from merv 8 to merv 5.”
“I tried the dip switches in all configurations doesn't seem to change anything. Problem is unit in a warehouse and blower is in open air with no duct work its loud af. So how can I slow blower down? Its over 65db”
Homeowners are experiencing issues with excessive noise and weak airflow from HVAC vents, often linked to missing dampers or inadequate vent adjustments. They seek solutions for reducing airflow without completely closing the vents.

“Noise level is strongly related to the "linear speed" of the air flow. faster air is noisier. So for the same CFM, a 4" duct has 70% more cross section than 3" (so the air is moving about 50-60% as fast). That's a huge difference in noise level - (12 dB, roughly). Same with the grill, the aperture from room to fan cavity, etc. Big and slow is quiet. (geek out - Noise goes as 50log(velocity)+10log(Area) )”

“Hi, I'm thinking of spending the money to add a fresh air ventilation duct and damper to my residential AC/furnace system. Unit is in the basement. Wondering if anyone's installed/done that before and how much it might cost. Thanks! submitted by /u/Wooden_Direction5040 [link] [comments]”
“Hello. TLDR: heat turns on, vents in one room thump every few seconds while heat runs and 15ish minutes after it stops. Volume up My vents in my room make a horrid noise that wakes me up every time. I called a technician out one time a couple years ago and he just said it was a squirrel, obvious lie he didn’t want to do the work. This is a mobile home and I anticipate it would be nasty work to get underneath and pull the insulation to get at the vents. The thumping starts pretty much as soon as”
“Happens every couple of minutes. 3-10 minutes. The hvac guy said there is nothing wrong with the actual unit and said it could be the ducts expanding and contracting. If this is true then how can I fix the noise? submitted by /u/Huhwhatumeanman [link] [comments]”

“Hello, we have heard a persistent noise through our vents. When we had it checked out, the tech read the static pressure and this is what it came back as. We tried it without a filter and with a brand new filter and neither helped much. They suggested adding more return vents. Does anyone have some more thoughts and input on what these readings mean and possible solutions besides adding more return vents? Previously the system did not make a noise and after the motor died and we had it replaced,”
“Building a high end custom home and looking at linear vents instead of the old standard grill vents. We were looking at ones from fittes. Our builder says his hvac guy says air flow is a big problem with these but then offered us some other options, not sure the brand, that were not as good looking, more expensive, and wouldnt** have air flow issues. Just looking for general advice. We don't want to sacrifice airflow for aesthetics but also don't want to spend more than we have to. Are t”
“I have what I think is a 5ton unit, and the noise from the air rushing is driving me insane. It’s around 60-65 decibels when cooling. What can I do to help this? I’ve tried pulling the return vents off and removing the filter too see if that changes anything, and nothing changes it’s just as loud. 1000sf 1940s house, I own it so I can makes some drastic changes if needed. submitted by /u/LavaSinge [link] [comments]”
“No access to ducts so register booster is my only option. As you can see, the most problematic of the hot rooms has the vent outlet mere feet from the door so I’m worried blowing straight down is a complete waste even with a booster, but adding a deflector would impede the airflow. I’m looking at the top two search results for “louvre register booster fan 6 x 10” on a certain popular site named after a rainforest. One has adjustable and oscillating louvres and the other just blows straight out.”
“I’m trying to quiet down this stretch of ductwork, and especially the noise at the vent. Mainly fast air sounds. No whistling. I don’t want to change the air flow or balancing of the system. Thoughts? submitted by /u/Crunchy6409 [link] [comments]”
“Hi all. I’ll start my saying I am not knowledgeable whatsoever when it comes to HVAC. I recently moved into a townhouse with the air handler in a sliding doors closet in our living room. I’m quite sensitive to noise, and the air handler is very loud. I’ve posted photos for reference. I’m wondering what can be done to reduce the noise. Is it likely a technical problem with the air handler itself? Can I soundproof the doors or replace them with sturdier doors? What are my options? TLDR: Loud air h”
“We recently moved into a house with 2023 hvac but the house it hot as hell. Most of the vent registers are 2x12 with the covers attached. I decided to take one off and it air flow improved significantly. Does anyone have recommendations to replace these with? I’m not expecting this to fix the heat issue but hoping it can make a big improvement. Curious George for scale submitted by /u/East-Newspaper-7569 [link] [comments]”
“I have very high airflow on some vents. There used to be an in-duct damper but was removed by a duct cleaning company. Is there anything that can be inserted to reduce airflow? (These ducts aren’t accessible) Wish there was a kind of damper that could be inserted into the vent. Closing the vent/grille is not very effective makes it too noisy… submitted by /u/ssczoxylnlvayiuqjx [link] [comments]”
