Applicants are receiving automated rejection notifications from employers late at night and on weekends, causing frustration and a sense of impersonal treatment during the job search process.

“I had a manager year ago who told me the "best time" to send a rejection email was 10 am - 12 pm mid-week so they have time to process and let it go/get distracted with the rest of the week. That's way too much mental gymnastics. Imo, as long as it's sent within a reasonable time frame of reviewing application or the interview during normal-ish business hours, it doesn't matter. Because someone will always feel some type of way and have feedback.”

Sending general, automated emails aren't feedback.

“I can go and modify them, sure. But also... I have never dealt with that before AND I got a rejection at 6 PM on a Friday after I put something in only a few hours ago. I know you aren't looking at them but REALLY???? Edit: I just went to check workday to see if they are paused or something, and no. I am "No longer under consideration" For these positions, but I am still for FOUR of them. Not five. Four. submitted by /u/SeashoreAndMountains [link] [comments]”

“For context, I had applied 3 days ago and I just received a template "Thank you for your application" email. The timing was interesting as I got it at 5pm sharp on a Friday. Made me wonder if that's the best time to schedule such an email. There's a slight possibility I randomly happened to receive it then but I wanted to know when people would prefer to receive such communication. submitted by /u/k962 [link] [comments]”

“I had an interview last week that seemed to go quite well, setting up future rounds of interviews. This morning, a Saturday morning and the start of a holiday weekend, I got an automated rejection message from their HR screening system. Is there a reason a company would send an auto-rejection on a Saturday, or are they just thoughtless? Maybe they sent it in error somehow? This really ruined my long weekend and it’s just incredibly rude. submitted by /u/anchordown16 [link] [com”

They’re automatic batched rejections. Fairly normal.

“Seeing “Not selected by employer” is enough and should be the end of it. I don’t need an AI-generated email sent to me 5 days later to rub it in. Even if Indeed doesn’t end them, there should be an opt-in/out for them at the very least. submitted by /u/bassistheplace246 [link] [comments]”

“Got rejected by a company at 12:20 in the morning. Probably an automated system but still that’s what you need to do is send out a rejection email in the middle of the night to an applicant saying “we’ve decided to move on with other candidates”. It’s gotten real bad with hiring these days and it sickens me. These people don’t care and why should I apply again to that company if they’ll just reject me again like this. I’m not saying the qualifiers person didn’t deserve to get the job but this is”
