“I was thinking about an Obsidian app or plugin but instead of plain text it would have full docx/rtf files? Think of Ms Word but with a filetree, links, graphview, capable of inserting xls files inside and whatnot. Fully wysiwyg + layout + printing. Would you use such a thing…”

“Hi all, I need help simplifying my system, because right now it's a mess. I'm a teacher, I also work in campus ministry, and I'm a dad of two little kids, so I juggle a lot of recurring stuff. Here's where everything lives right now: - **Telegram:** two "saved" chats where I…”
Users are struggling to effectively manage and organize their notes across multiple platforms and devices. They desire a seamless, fast, and flexible note-taking workflow that integrates diverse tools and caters to different capture and organization needs, often feeling frustrated by the limitations of current solutions.

“Nebulous app does exactly this, handwriting to text into a markdown file that can live in your vault. The conversion is surprisingly clean even with my messy writing. Only catch is the search part, you need to have the file open in obsidian for the…”
“This looks so useful and might make me completely switch from remnote to obsidian. Does it allow multiline cards? - ie what’s the four pillars of HFrEF and it shows as a list of 4. I also find remnote’s syntax quite simple with == or :: to create flashcards quickly, but i guess it’s a lot harder to create that in md? “Let me know if that video helped. This is still a new feature so I imagine there might be rough edges. [re: Set up Obsidian Git on iPhone with your existing GitHub sign-in with GitSync.md]”
“How do you do progress bars? Does this require a plug in, I’m limited to the core plug ins at work but these would be useful. [re: New to Obsidian - Home Page made, now how to properly utilise..]”

“i also switched to obsidian. i usually always stick to tools that i’ve used but the speed of using the desktop app was just getting worse. And i was getting too frustrated with it when i only use like 2-5% of notion’s features. Obsidian is just a better experience for note taking. And i mean there are a million apps for note taking . it’s one of the most essential things, so no one should get stuck using something they don’t enjoy. [re: Notion Valuation is too high]”
“I wake up pretty early and go for a walk. Somewhere along the way, that became part of how i use Obsidian. I've mapped my iPhone's action button to a series of shortcuts that opens Obsidian and starts Willow Voice dictation. Then I just walk and talk. My ideas, my plans, something I'm working on. Sometimes I'm talking through a particular project. I don't have to sit down and decide how to write it all out first. One morning I ended up with something like 15 paragraphs. I had”

Think of Ms Word but with a filetree, links, graphview, capable of inserting xls files inside and whatnot. Fully wysiwyg + layout + printing. Would you use such a thing and ditch markdown or keep both docx files alongside .md? edit: I deal with a lot of docx, xlsx and pdfs everyday that I cannot keep them in .md format. I have them in my Vault and organize them with word-smith but I starte”
“I work with Obsidian directly and through Claude Desktop and the Claude Code MCP on my Macbook every day. I often rely on docs in my vault when using Claude on my iPhone. This works only if my MacBook is open and the MCP server is running. If my laptop is closed, Claude has no access to my vault. I happily pay for Obsidian Sync. My dream setup is that I can upgrade to a plan that includes Cloud Sync, with secured MCP access, so I can connect to my vault 24/7 from Claude (and other agents) withou”

“I think Obsidian is slower when editing a note. [re: Obsidian is slower than usual]”
“45,000 notes is a lot. What exactly are those notes? Are these auto-generated, or are you manually writing all of them, and have you actually written more than 45,000 notes? [re: Images in Obsidian]”

“What I've encountered after migrating my GTD system to Obsidian is slowliness on mobile. Because Obsidian's mobile app is using capacitor, (1) the startup time is slow (partially due to tons of plugins I depend on; somewhere around 1-3 minutes on my device), (2) the app is often being killed by the android system while switching between apps because the app consumes quite a lot of memory comparing to native applications. That's why I rarely open the app on mobile - only on rare occas”
this looks iOS [re: Capture to Daily notes from MacBook Shortcut]
how does that work? [re: Capture to Daily notes from MacBook Shortcut]
“Global shortcuts via the Shortcuts app for Obsidian are alse unreliable for me. I am not sure why but I solved it by configuring the keyboard shortcut in Alfred app and NOT the Shortcuts app (the instruction itself is in the Shortcuts app, just the keyboard shortcut that redirects to the Shortcuts app is managed by Alfred) . It is now 100% reliable but it depends on you having another app that runs keyboard shortcuts [re: QuickAdd Suggestion - Thank You!]”
“is there any such short cut? I know there are shortcuts on iOS and iPadOS, but why not MacOS. submitted by /u/AnotherStep99 [link] [comments]”
“I saw someone posted earlier about how they used QuickAdd and a hotkey to quickly create a note at anytime on their Mac. That’s good stuff. Imagine being able to do this even if you’re not at a computer or don’t have your phone on you. That’s what an Index does. It’s a ring that does one thing, and does it extremely well. You push a button on the ring on your index finger and speak your note. When you look at your Obsidian next, that transcribed note will be tagged, in a folder of your choice. T”
“Obsidian is great, but for this, perhaps try Scriener. [re: Writer switching to Obsidian needs your guidance]”
“Amazing addition. Let's not forget the power of spoken word performance. So much is lost when the content is reduced to words on a page. [re: Anyone using the Record function of Obsidian? How do you use it?]”
“Home Cards gives you a sleek, customizable start page that knows your work, your notes and your vault. Open Obsidian and see what you were working on this morning, what you wrote this week, which notes everything else links to, or a daily sample of notes you haven’t touched in months... you pick how you want to personalize your new front door! Each note appears as a card on your new Home page, with its title, tags and opening sentence. Colors and fonts follow your theme, and a collection of tile”

“Have you set your Obsidian folder to "Keep downloaded" in iCloud on all your devices? [re: Opened notes turn blank as i write them]”
“same with quick capture tbh. if i need to jot something in two seconds i just use a plain notes app now, notion is where it ends up later if it actually matters [re: What have you quietly stopped using Notion for?]”
“I'm using Obsidian to take notes on coding tickets at work, so I end up with a lot of sections inside one note. There are times I want to diagram those sections out in canvas so I can understand parts of the workflow better. What I need to do is bring up multiple copies of the same note (I got that part) and show only the relevant sections of each instance, like a specific section in one instance, a different section in another instance, etc. But when I click off the canvas and come back, it”
“Use git simply in PC and mobile. It's free and you'll never loose your notes. In PC you can use obsidian git plugin. But in mobile obsidian git is buggy. I use git sync app for that in mobile [re: [funeral warning] i lost alot of notes for obsidian sync/plugin bug]”
“Cool. How much firepower does that buy you and are you running all that through a CLIproxy? [re: Rambling into obsidian daily note is the best habit I've built these 2 months]”
“not sure how this happened. overview: i use obsidian sync on pc and phone. i downloaded the same plugins for both, one of the plugins was Folder Note. Today opening from pc I saw that many of my folders/notes became "Untitled" with zero content inside them. No clue how, but yeah since I was in a tidying up phase, i just thought they were empty notes that I must've forgotten laying around, so i started deleting them. well those files were literally my notes of work, financial recaps”
“I have been working on documents for last 5 years. Recently I realized I was using Confluence to structure execution notes, Notion for thoughts during meetings, Obsidian for quick local notes, and then reading back notes from Googles note taking apps. My colleague had the exact same problem. We had MCP connected to Claude, but there was no way to bring all of that into one place that was intuitive. So we built Mnemify. Which converted all our notes from every app to a 3D traversable terrain inst”

“You need additional mcp/cli tools to let LLM touch those Apple Notes though, can be done yes, but adds another layer of friction. [re: Rambling into obsidian daily note is the best habit I've built these 2 months]”
“I don't see any special value here. The sake can be done on apple notes etc [re: Rambling into obsidian daily note is the best habit I've built these 2 months]”
“Tasks go in Remember the Milk. Notes and lists go in Obsidian. (For me, that is.) [re: Drowning in capture tools (Telegram, Apple Notes, a paper notebook…). Apple Reminders or Todoist? Is Obsidian worth it?]”

Here's where everything lives right now: - **Telegram:** two "saved" chats where I dump links to interesting posts. Problem: a lot of posts fit both topics, so I end up duplicating them or never finding them again. - **Another Telegram channel** for things I need to do. - **Apple”
“how does this compare to just pointing Claude desktop at your vault with MCP? [re: Anyone recommend a set of tools/plugins to AI-automate most of my notetaking and organization? What's your own workflow like?]”
“Thanks for clarifying the two export paths. I'd label .wuhenarchive “regular notes only—vault excluded” beside the backup button, so nobody mistakes it for a complete backup. For vault .txt exports, add a reminder that the exported file is plain text outside the vault's protection. [re: [Test for Test] Wuhen Notes — offline-first private notepad, need 12 testers × 14 days (will test yours back!)]”
“Curious! Electron apps receive a lot of hate for consuming a lot of memory. Which is fair, i guess. In Obsidian's case, however, i love the fact that i can fire up dev tools and inspect any element of the UI and simply tweak it with a line of CSS if i want to. The only other apps that give me that kind of freedom are Firefox and Thunderbird. So my question is, do you have plans to move away from this – or stick to it in the long run? [re: Surprised to see Obsidian on the Artcraft chopping bl”
“Scany might work for the few pages you scan each month. It can save them as a PDF, which you could then add to your Obsidian vault manually. It doesn’t solve the automatic-upload part, but could cover replacing Scannable. [re: iPhone Document Scanner & Obsidian Upload]”
“Notes Widget for Markdown: vault notes on your Android home screen, with git sync status”
“For me it depends on the note. I use Obsidian for writing. I use H1 the same as file name for my characters, settings, species, etc. but I don’t use H1 for my chapters, quick notes, etc. [re: H1 or not H1... that's the question]”
I like ScannerPro [re: iPhone Document Scanner & Obsidian Upload]
“good call, the notes scanner plus sharing to files is basically all you need for this [re: iPhone Document Scanner & Obsidian Upload]”
“the built in notes app actually does scanning pretty well, just press and hold on the app icon and you see scan document option. saves as pdf and you can share straight to obsidian vault if you have it set up in files app i been doing this for like year now, never needed a separate scanner app after that [re: iPhone Document Scanner & Obsidian Upload]”
“I'm an Evernote convert and slowly replacing parts of my old workflow. One of my use cases was scanning paper documents on my iphone to save as an image or PDF into Evernote. I used the Scannable iphone app for that, which was licensed as part of your Evernote license. I'm now no longer licensed for either of them. So - any recommendations for an iphone app that can scan a paper document/s via camera, save them as image/pdf, and upload into other apps in the ecosystem (could be Obsidian”
“My obsidian notes aren't accessible to other apps. Is it possible to have it as an obsidian plugin somehow? [re: Small Android widget for Markdown notes, now on Google Play]”
“Pretty critical for a word processor, though the entire craft suite should be doing this. There should be a folder in temp called ArtCraft/WordCraft which is automatically dumping autosave files every few minutes (chosen timing in preferences), even for a brand new document that has never been saved anywhere. There should also there be a record of which files are open, so WordCraft can automatically open all previously open files on restarting, as word does.”
“I've recently started using obsidian and I'm still noting some notes by hand and uploading it to obsidian in pdfs Is there any plugin for mobile devices allowing me to draw and write directly on them? I don't have an iPad, I have Lenovo tablet submitted by /u/z4bul4 [link] [comments]”

“I'd try consistent-attachments on a copy of the vault first, since it moves files for you and a wrong move across many notes is hard to undo by hand. The case I'd test is an image used in two notes, where it asks what to do. [re: How do you handle Attachments + a plugin i try that looks like working for me (consistent-attachments) What do you think about it or what is your way to handle moving notes with attachements?]”
“OneNote works very well for Windows and MS office. I've been planning retirement and have been switching over to Linux for the past year. I ported my personal notes over to Obsidian as I won't be using MS office either (I use Google Sheets instead of Excel, and don't need all the other office apps). I looked at cloud version of OneNote, but felt Obsidian was a better choice. My biggest issue with Obsidian is keeping it synchronized across devices without paying a subscription. There”
“i use obsidian on my samsung tab, before this i use an ipad, and apple pencil work wonder for handwriting to text in ipad. but samsung is a nightmare, the spen activating obsidian gesture to open sidebar and glitching everything out. try this plugin: https://github.com/xudri/pen-guard its also available via BRAT. or install it manually: 1. Create the folder .obsidian/plugins/pen-guard/ 2. Add manifest.json : json { "id": "pen-guard", "name": "Pen Guard", &”
“good call on excalidraw, its probably the closest thing to freehand drawing without leaving obsidian [re: Using obsidian as continued education in your field of expertise, and note making regarding the same.]”
“Obsidian is the king for local notes (which is a hassle to share and sync) all I want is online notes because it doesn't take space on my computer and because of synching. I really don't like this trend of "local only" is terrible [re: I'm switching to Google Docs until i find a good Notion alternative]”
“I recently got a Surface Book and have been loving using the stylus with Obsidian. But one thing I noticed and annoyed me was that the stylus doesn’t let you drag or resize boxes, or even pan around the canvas like you would with a mouse and I searched everywhere and found nothing Once I found out that the pen gets registered differently than the mouse i decided to try making a plugin that lets you toggle between normal pen mode and mouse emulation mode. Cool that I got to function somewhat well”
“Hello! After a few years tinkering with note apps i think i know which features i like for university. I want to know if anyone here uses apple notes as inbox and obsidian as the actual place to host the knowledge? How well apple notes imports to obsidian? Often times in lectures, apple notes is great for typing and drawing quickly and at the same time on an ipad. And seems that it exports fully to markdown, including the drawings as jpg. I tried lots of obsidian plugins to mimick it but they al”
“i never write my final drafts in obsidian. it's my notebook. it holds my research. i'll write initial drafts and fragments but once i'm done with my research i move over to ulysses. i have two screens. obsidian lives on the one to my side, ulysses directly in front of me. [re: I used Obsidian for research notes for over 3 years, but it just didn't work for final draft]”
“Same, the flash was the main thing that bugged me about the web viewer [re: Obsidian's built-in Web viewer is handy for reading articles next to your notes, but every site opens in its own colours. A bright white page beside a dark vault is hard on the eyes, and even sites with a dark mode never match your theme.]”
