“I had sod installed in my yard on May first. It was part of an EPA project so they removed the existing lawn, dug down 18 inches, replaced with fresh soil, then laid the sod. I’m at the point where I’m watering once a day for 15 minutes. This is the first time maintaining a new…”

“These pics are from a couple of weeks ago. I am out of the country and can’t take newer pics. We had brand new sod installed in mid-June. My lawn guy wants to come by tomorrow to aerate and overseed the lawn. I don’t know anything about lawn maintenance, but I am reading that it may be too soon to aerate new sod, and also that it may be a touch too late to over seed the lawn for the season. I would rather err on the side of caution- but I don’t know if that means: I should do it so the lawn has”
“After repeated water main breaks at my house and repeated failed attempts by the municipality to reestablish my frontage, they have agreed to lay sod over the most recently damaged areas. I've been given the choice to proceed with sod installation now, or wait until the spring. I'm being told that the sod will have a better chance to establish in the spring at this point, which seems contrary to my research, so I wanted to get some other opinions. “To be clear, I don’t have the greenest thumb but I do appreciate quality grass. We were struggling with seed in an area where we had a lot of construction, so we had sod put down about 10 days ago. Some of it looks incredible. Other parts, not as much. I have been watering 2x a day, 40 minutes at a time. Is this what sod should look like at around this time? My only other experience with sod was about 7 years ago and it was green, vibrant, and full from day 1. We are in Southeast PA. submi”
“DMV area and just moved into my new build. The builder installed this sod but I don't think they watered it properly and now it looks like this. I was able to get some hoses and sprinklers today and start watering but need some honest advice as to whether this is salvageable using additional seeding in the really rough areas. The houses next to mine are being built still so a lot of this I feel is also from heavy foot traffic on new sod and underwatering. My PM says they will fix the rough a”
“Fescue in Virginia. This is sod that was installed about 9 weeks ago. This has been such a tiring process, but I have several areas in my lawn that looked soggy. I stopped watering for some time to allow it to dry, but it kept the same dark color and is now crunchy. submitted by /u/7citiesbicurious [link] [comments]”
“I have some random patches of clumping fescue in my lawn. I've dug it up in the past and just laid down new sod here and there. This fall I plan to mark out every spot, big or small and hopefully permanently nuke it with Transorb HC. The thing is I've never used this chemical before and I don't want the soil to be tainted because of it. How long after spraying it can I lay down top soil and seed? “Hi all. Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer. I had sod installed at my home back in 2019. The grass has been great and well maintained, but recently I’ve started to notice a different type of grass taking over some areas. It’s a lighter color green, fluffier than the regular blue grass, and pulls out with very little resistance. It also does’t have long blades. It’s more of a stem with smaller blades at the top. Attached is a photo of it in my yard. It seems to be popping up in mor”
“Had new sod installed in early June. Things were good for a while, but over the last 2 weeks I’ve gotten some bad patching. Any idea what could be causing this? Zone 6A, sod was KBG. submitted by /u/bigb0b92 [link] [comments]”
“LONDON UK. We laid new turf around 6 weeks ago and did all the prep beforehand: aerating/preparing the ground, adding topsoil, levelling it out, etc. Since laying it, we were watering it every evening, especially because we’ve had some really hot weather here in the UK. For the first few weeks it looked great – really thick, lush and green. We let it grow fairly long before mowing it. After the first mow, it looked quite yellow underneath and a little patchy. I assumed this was because it had gr”
“recently had a new patio installed but they ruined our grass and replanted before they left. It’d been 4 weeks. Should I do something about it or will it get better? If so, is it too late in the season to replant? I’ve been watering 3/day with an automatic sprinkler submitted by /u/bloated-frog [link] [comments]”
“Hi everyone, Located in Zone 6A in Canada. A few months back I had my backyard sodded and I am really happy with it. After about 2 months I noticed some grass under my tree start to thin out and produced some brown thatch beneath the remaining green blades. I water my lawn weekly, sometimes twice depending on heat, diligently with an inch of water, cut weekly never no more than a 1/3 off the blade. I have watered these more than other areas but they won't go away . I am concerned that this m”

“Location is Houston, Texas. Had this sod installed 7-8 weeks ago. I watered it a lot the first few weeks like I was supposed to, and then we got a lot of rain so I stopped. It was looking quite green but then I mowed it today and uncovered what was lurking underneath. I plan on watering it quite frequently but I’m not sure how much/how often. The tree makes the area quite shady - should I have the limbs trimmed to get more sunlight? But my ultimate question is - is it screwed? submitted by”

“I had sod placed in a new build house back in June. Unfortunately, there are bare spots between the sod and some dead spots in the corners where the builder didn’t water before I moved in. I’m hoping to overseed this fall. My understanding is you should aerate with overseeding but that is also a bad idea to aerate new sod. Is it worth doing a liquid aeration” as my lawn company suggests? Or should I just spread seed and call it a day? submitted by /u/Doctor_of_Something [link]”
“Planning to put down new Sod down near Augusta GA area. Specifically zeon Zoysia. I have a Question about sod prep though. I got an estimate for Sod prep and i asked for Dirt, but Contractor is wanting to put down a sandy mixture with clay. Its orange and he said this dirt is easy to grade with and good for drainage. Attached are some photos of what the dirt looks like. Should i got with this sandy clay mixture or ask for soil like dirt. Thanks inadvance. submitted by /u/clientjb7 [l”
“Does anyone have a recommendations for someone to prep and lay sod. I don’t have the knowledge or time to do it myself. Backstory: house was built in 2024. If you’re familiar with new construction in Nashville, they half-assed a lot of it. Especially the lawn. They basically laid sod straight of a bunch of rock. It last a little over a year, then it basically just didn’t come back after winter and it gets worse every time it rains. Before someone chimes in, yes we have 2 dogs. They’ll wear a pat”
“I had new sod installed last fall, with some patched in this spring due to snowplow damage. It’s on a set irrigation schedule, but there are yellowing patches throughout. I have two dogs, but the patches don’t necessarily align with where they pee, and I’ve used a Sunday brand dog pee specific fertilizer with no effect. Otherwise, I’ve fertilized once or twice and made sure it’s watered regularly. Normal? And in the fall, should I seeding or patching in new sod? submitted by /u/mdljr”
“My front yard took seed well, but my backyard is struggling. Sod was installed as part of my new construction 2 years ago. I have a few spots like this in my back yard. I’ve tried grass seed and I’ve tried clover. I’m assuming there’s something I’m missing. What should I do? Also wanting to get rid of the clover I think, I’m prepping for fall! I appreciate any help 😄 submitted by /u/luvrocknsoul [link] [comments]”
“I'm not sure what I can do to fix this, I laid about 3 inches of good screened loam ontop of a tilled lawn on a new build constitute home. I seeded it as per the directions using a rotary spreader and fertilized it as well, I've been watering it the last two days twice a day. One thing I've noticed is that the soil clumps onto my shoes as I walk to move the sprinkler, which I have to do at least once to cover my 2500sqft lawn. Aside from spending more money on more sprinklers/hoses a”

I’m at the point where I’m watering once a day for 15 minutes. This is the first time maintaining a new lawn. A big issue in my area is the crows digging for grubs in the fall. How can I prevent that and what are the major things I need to do now and plan for later to ensure my lawn is thriving next year? I live in zone 8b,”
“Hey gang. I had some sod installed on July 10th and it’s looking a little rough. I am in Saskatoon, SK, Canada - which Google tells me is a cold continental climate (USDA Hardiness Zone 2b/3a). So far the summer has been alternating between super hot and super wet, which maybe hasn’t been the best for the grass. After it was installed the sod was super shaggy and green. It looked and felt nice. But I quickly noticed that entire strips of grass along the seams of the sod rolls would just fall out”
“Any good options or just remove and replace? I hired my brother to finish what I started. I received a work assignment in Hawaii for 60 days, returned to this. (1) Sod installation gone wrong. Leveling issues, sits above the sidewalks and driveway. (2) Irrigation heads and zones installation issues. Should I pull the sod and fix everything? 60 day old sod installation. If I pull it I can install in the backyard and install fresh new sod in the front. Penny for your thoughts. I’m off for the next”
“We had this marathon sod installed in our yard on July 1st and watered it according to the installers instructions. A couple days ago this big patch in the middle started looking kind of straw like and now is looking like it’s dying off. I’m a lawn novice to put it lightly, can anyone help with what’s happening to it and let me know if there’s anything I can do to fix it? I’m in the great Los Angeles area as far as zones go. submitted by /u/styrofoamladder [link] [comments]”
“We had sod installed in a new build about 2 months ago. It seems to have rooted in well and is doing mostly okay. I’m starting to notice a little bit of browning though, down near the bottom of it. If I go closer to it, it looks like clumped, dead grass and is very matted. I’ll attach some photos which might do a better job explaining. Is this just regular sod stuff? Located in the Ottawa area - so warm, humid summers. submitted by /u/whatthedna [link] [comments]”
“Hi all, I had sod installed last year. The installer arrived with no topsoil. I told him I wanted him to add some top soil. The sod was delivered, and would have been wasted if not installed that today, so I gave the installer a break. He tilled the soil - it was good soil, just very packed. The yellow area is where he sodded. I’ve aerated it a few times, but it’s really hard. What can I do other than aerating to get better grass there. Will a heavy top dressing fix it? submitted by”
