“Why is my grass growing patchy like this? You can see the darker green is growing more. It was new sod like 3 years ago. I had it aerated I think maybe a year after it was put in. And I have reseeded once. I do water it sometimes if it looks like there isnt any in the forecast…”

“I live in Vancouver BC, Canada, zone 8. On September 25th, I aerated, detached, added soil, a starter fertiliser and overseeded my 2000-square foot lawn with 25 pounds of a 90/10 TTTF/KBG mix. It's been 3 weeks and the grass is coming in patchy, tall in some areas and barely…”

“Zone 5B in Colorado, cool-season lawn. Moved in 2 years ago, and I don’t really know what the previous owners did. But this year, I’m wondering if this patch of grass is different from the rest of the lawn. It’s bluer in color at the moment, when the overall lawn is reasonably healthy and happy. It also looks to be naturally matted down, if that’s a thing. And in the summer, it seems to go dormant more quickly than the rest of the lawn. So my question is, is this a different grass type from the”

And I have reseeded once. I do water it sometimes if it looks like there isnt any in the forecast for a week. Any ideas why its doing this? I live in the Chicago suburbs and get sun on the grass from like 8 or 9 until 3pm-ish submitted by /u/Dalbo44 [link] [comments]”
“Location: Midwest USA (Chicagoland) This is in a newly constructed community. Sod is about 2.5 yrs old The grass around the edges of my driveway is dead. What can I do to get grass growing here again? The sod that was put down was Kentucky Bluegrass. Recommendations for grass seed and procedure to easily DIY? And how to prevent from happening in future? Thank you in advance. submitted by /u/bulls2030 [link] [comments]”
“Houston, TX Grass was green all summer and this patch just recently showed up on my front lawn. Previously was watering for 15 minutes per zone every day during the hotter months, bumped it down to 20 minutes twice a week just last week, but that was after I discovered the patch. I don’t really see a yellow ring that could indicate fungus, and I did the coffee tin trick to look for chinch bugs but no real indication (I could be wrong on both these items) Looking for advice on how to control this”
“SW Washington State. I have 5 small patches of dead grass in my lawn, each patch probably 6-8". They all started at the beginning of 2026 in the same area. No foot traffic, bug infestation or abuse to my lawn in that area. I initially tried Scott's Lawn Patch. Which had very little growth. I dug out the areas and tried Scotts Lawn Soil with new seed, again nothing. Fall is arriving and I'm stumped as what to do next? Any help would be greatly appreciated! submitted by /u”
“Hello, I need some advice. My contractor has replaced the sod three times and each time they have died and/or have weeds growing literally within a day or two after mowing. The same contractor did the back of the house and it looks much better but it was done at a different time. The first time he said I was not watering it enough even though I had an automatic sprinkler going and certain areas were green. The sprinkler system which they installed, I said how can some sections of the sod be gree”
“My lawn looks mostly green from a distance, but there is lots of dead grass, weeds, and crab grass. Last fall i used Scott's turf builder winterguard fall weed and feed. This spring i had it airated and overseeded, and 2 rounds of insecticide granuals this year. I also had 2 rounds of weed spray. What do i need to do to have a better lawn next year? submitted by /u/suburbanite09 [link] [comments]”

“What is happening here? Planted new sod in August and it’s been looking great but this patch just popped up. Could it be fungus from over watering? Any tips appreciated. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Quick_Cat_1543 [link] [comments]”
“PNW, full sun, west-facing. Installed sod in June. The sod is a mix of bluegrass and ryegrass on a screened alluvial sand base. Underneath the sod is 2+ inches of turf blend soil which was placed just before the sod was installed. There is old rocky soil under the turf blend. It has always been watered appropriately. Mower doesn’t leave the clippings. There is a bit of a dead/brown layer under the green stuff. Thoughts on how to improve? submitted by /u/mwillia33 [link] [commen”
“Location: Winnipeg, Canada Zone: 3a or 3b depending on where you look. Additional info: They own a Female Black Lab that has always been out and allowed on the lawns. This is the second time it's happened to him. the whole lawn, front and back was ripped up and sodded 5 years ago. 1 week ago the backyard was full and green. In days it turned into these large areas of dead grass, shown in the first 2 pictures. 1.5 years ago in the spring, the front lawn looked the same with large dead patches”
“We are currently in a water restriction (1day a week before 8am and after 4pm). I have St Augustine in the front yard and bahia in the back. How long should I be watering on my 1 day? submitted by /u/shmeatontwitch [link] [comments]”
“NY based. On Wednesday, landscaper applied heavy coating of lime to the lawn. Almost immediately after, brown patches started to appear. Am I wrong that this is their fault? Anything I can do to fix this? submitted by /u/Competitive-Cap-389 [link] [comments]”
“In NJ - Have a bumpy lawn from squirrels and rabbits. Am I too naive to think the fix is to scalps the lawn, rent a lawn roller from Home Dopey, hit once, drop and level top soil evenly, followed by another roll and then reseed? Why does this feel to simple? Thinking I will just waste an afternoon and some $$. I know the hunnies and squirrels will keep coming back but our yard is an ankle turner and need to get something done about it. TIA! submitted by /u/DadCPA [link] [commen”
