“Low key panicking. Booked 3 hour flight first time with our two toddlers & opted for free lap seat for 17 month old very active son. Worried about take off and landing and keeping him still / restrained. Should we buy an extra seat for him and if so what car seat should we get? Already worried about all the luggage we have to bring so don’t want to lug heavy car seat around too! Tips and advice appreciated. submitted by /u/kahemh [link] [comments]”

“We took a pretty long flight Cali -> nyc yesterday. My 8 month old has been actually doing a great job with sleep and we have a solid routine down and she rarely cries during the day now. She was an angel during the flight, but when we got to my parents apt in nyc was hysterical all night long. Like wouldn’t go down in the pack and play for more than 20 min just screaming. She fell asleep in our arms but after a lot of work and honestly it felt like another newborn night. Usually if she cries”
“Our 20mo is flying as a lap child for a 1 hour flight. Our whole row will be family members so I think it will work out fine. On the flight home it will be myself, grandma, and baby. I am considering getting the third seat for the little guy so we have a tow to ourselves but would he be required to sit in his seat the whole time? submitted by /u/Awkward-Shower5299 [link] [comments]”
“My wife and I are flying to another state so our 11 month old can finally meet my side of the family, this is our first time flying with him and we were wondering if there’s anything in particular we should prepare for such as : Will we have problems with TSA with his formula? What kind of toys are allowed? Stuff like that, it’s an 8 hour flight there with 2 layovers and a 4 hour flight back with 2 layovers submitted by /u/Street_Region_4536 [link] [comments]”
“Before the trip my biggest fear was the flight. The flight (6.5h) went well. He fussed here and there but could be easily soothed once we pick him up. However, the night has been rough. We usually put him to bed at 7.30pm back home and decided to try putting him to bed at 8.30pm here (since it is 1h ahead). Wrong move. He cried hysterically at 8pm even though it would only have been 7pm back home. He fell asleep at 8.50pm. However, he’s not sleeping well. It’s not even midnight yet and he has al”
“My kids is almost 3 and I have heard the comment from a few other parents now that he cries too much. For context I personally think he is a really patient child, kind of doesn’t react when other kids snatch or push him. He also speaks 3 languages and the community language is currently his weakest although he is able to communicate pretty well it’s still not as fluent for him as his native language. I think all of these things contribute to him getting frustrated to the point that he cries. Whe”
“My daughter, let's call her "Jane", is neurodivergent. She can talk, but struggles to communicate, and tends to repeat words or phrases that she hears. A lot of the time, she communicates by ear-splitting shrieks: if she's happy, she'll shriek. If she wants something, she'll shriek. If she's bored, she'll shriek. And her shrieking really just sets me off. I genuinely struggle to keep my cool when she starts shrieking like that--especially when it happens in the”
“My boy turned 3 years old in August. He's a very happy little chap the vast majority of the time. We noticed that he's incredibly intelligent from a young age but he's fallen far behind with a lot of milestones. His mother and I thought it'd all sort itself out once he started talking but he still hasn't said a word. He knows his numbers 1 - 25 and will find each one when asked. He knows sooo many animals and has great interest in them. He can identify brown bears, black bear”
“I’m going on my first flight with my 10-month-old baby, and obviously I’m already expecting the worst 😂 She’s not exactly an easy baby and can be quite fussy/cry a lot. Her usual schedule is roughly: Wake up around 7am First nap around 10am Second nap around 2:30pm Bedtime around 8pm Our flight is at 5pm, and we’ll be at the airport around 2pm to check our luggage, go through passport control, security, etc. I’m wondering whether I should try to stretch her wake windows a bit that day, for exam”
“So my son (4) has level 2 autism so he is verbal and high functioning but he can’t regulate emotions and feelings and right now what I’m struggling with is him biting himself and hurting himself. Sometimes it’s when he’s feeling strongly about something (i.e he. Gets mad and bites his hand/arm but also if he gets excited about like going to the park he would do it too.) his meltdowns about little things like broken chips or messed up toys have frequented more too. What are things that have helpe”
“Went to Disneyland, our 1 hr flight there was fine but on the way back, the last 10 mins he threw a fit. We’re guessing the elevation was bothering his ears because he kept saying “Up” like he wanted to get out of there but the last 10 mins we are not allowed to stand. Anyway the kids near us got a nice laugh out of watching my son beat my ass till we got out. I was kinda embarrassed but at the same time I knew the parents all understood. Any tricks to getting around plane rides? We are going to”
“My husband and I have our first cross country flight next week with our 10 month old (9 months adjusted). I’m admittedly a pretty type A, already anxious flyer so naturally I’m busy trying to prepare. First off, from the seasoned parent fliers, any tips or must haves? The other thing I’m feeling unsure of is what to pack for food/snacks? She will obviously be able to nurse, but I don’t want her to just go the whole day without any solids. The food portion feels both overwhelming and like a big q”

But, I can't help but feel anxious about how he'll do in school with other similar children. Will he be fine? Will he be bullied from the get-go? Will they not understand him the way we do? So many questions keep rushing my head. I don't think I would be as anxious if he wasn't autistic. Then, even if he's learning I know he can be”
“IDK if anyone else has experienced this - but our 7yo boy - who tends to get VERY upset about things and lashes out - seems to get even more upset when we try to sympathize with him or soothe him. Just now - his big brother excluded him from something, and I could see he was about to get really upset - and he buried his face in the pillows (which he does), and I sort of backed away like I hadn't seen what happened. And what happened? Nothing. I went back in and he seemed a little irked but n”
“Hey all, new dad looking for some opinions/feedback on an upcoming flight. My daughter and I will be flying to Florida to meet my wife for a family event. It’s a 3hr non-stop flight. I’m looking for any tips/opinions on my plan as well as any recommended tweaks or purchases to make this process as painless as possible for my daughter. Travel Prep: 1. She is formula fed so I’ve purchased a few little containers to have formula separated for feeding on takeoff/descent to help with her ears 2. I’m”
“I’ve realized that it’s not even the destination that’s hard sometimes. It’s all the waiting and sitting in between, airports, car rides, flights, lines, etc.We started bringing a few things he’s already familiar with, like his favorite snacks, little toys, shows.Of course, it doesn’t magically fix everything . Sometimes they’re just tired and need a hug. so i'm wondering what actually works for kid starts getting overwhelmed on a trip? submitted by /u/Unusual_Sweet5410 [link] ”
“We are taking a cross country flight with our 10-month-old next month and I need any advice you can give me. We decided to get him his own seat so we have a whole row to ourselves. I got a travel stroller. I am on the fence about ALSO bringing a car seat because they are so freakin bulky. Anything else I need here? submitted by /u/ziggy_furz [link] [comments]”
“Edit: wow this blew up lol. I’m not going to address everyone’s comments. This was our third flight of the day, baby was over flying, she was done with snacks and done with her toys, she wasn’t kicking like a maniac, just the occasional boot here and there. Every single flight I was super apologetic to the people around me about an anxious, energetic, and noisy baby. Every single person said they understand and commend the effort I put into distracting the baby and keeping her calm. This one sin”
“Hello Fellow parents, We are going to embark on a long flight with our 3 year old soon. It will be the longest flight we have ever taken together. So, I am looking for advice on what are must haves, how to ensure she gets enough sleep during the flight and what are some of the way to control meltdowns or tantrums (in case it happens). submitted by /u/Adventurous_Day_7332 [link] [comments]”
“She’s done it for the last several years, particularly when her behaviour has been corrected and then she starts to cry, she will go and sit in front of one of our two large mirrors and watch herself, sometimes making herself dribble/drool. Is this a behaviour we should worry about? submitted by /u/Ok-Stranger-5270 [link] [comments]”
“I read that as long as you get them to drink or take a pacifier during takeoff and landing they will be fine. But my LO is fussy- she won’t just drink at random times. She needs it to be on her schedule. And she refuses pacifiers. Did anyone fly whose baby didn’t want to eat during landing or takeoff? Are there any alternatives I can try if she starts screaming from ear pain? submitted by /u/cazoon3 [link] [comments]”
“Edit: Just to clarify: of course I talk to our child about this in a calm way and explain what’s going on. It’s unfortunate that some people assumed from my post that I’m not talking to him about what’s happening! I’m also taking very good care of my partner and doing everything I can to support them. My question was separate from that. Even though we both talk to him about what’s happening and I’m there for my partner, I still find the negative atmosphere at home difficult, and sometimes I wond”
“Do you give a consequence for being mean when kid is melting down (after meltdown and is calm) or do you let it go since their brain isn't functioning correctly at the moment? For context, daughter is 5. This evening she was having trouble sharing with little brother for a few times. During bath she asked for more toys so I threw a bunch more in the tub. All toys, except for one, eventually floated all in her space and he went to grab one to play with. She got upset and I saw her didn't”

“So like the title says, what can we do? All my baby wants to do is crawl around. They whine if being held and it seems that any toy is only entertaining for 30 seconds. The flight is 3 hours long.. please help! submitted by /u/RelevantFerret1085 [link] [comments]”
“Flying through Dallas to transfer in an over 12 hour travel day with a 4 month old and I lost it at TSA. They yelled at me not breaking down our stroller/car seat combo immediately. I was “randomly selected” for having formula in my bag even though I alerted every officer we encountered in line to ensure we were complying (I believe this is standard procedure but they didn’t notify me or give me the option for the private screening prior to screening my diaper bag.) They then asked me if I had a”
“Every morning between 830 and 930 our 5 year old has a meltdown and gets disregulated. I've tried making sure he isn't hungry (he definitely gets a case of the hangrys) but still seems to happen. Anyone else experience this and either know what's going on or have a way to solve it? Tia! submitted by /u/altecsz [link] [comments]”
“Hi all - we booked a 2.5 hr flight to visit family when my LO turns 9 months. We bought two first class seats and LO will sit on my lap. She is a very opinionated baby who will scream/protest at the top of her lungs if she doesn’t get what she wants, and is not soothed by cuddles or pats. She is super curious and loves to explore and crawl, and gets cranky after sitting still for a while, especially if restrained in any way. Does anyone have advise for me on how to avoid pissing other passengers”
“On a plane with my 7 year old daughter not too long ago. We’re both doing our own thing and suddenly she just starts going, “Owww!!! Dad! Stop hitting me!!” 😂 I had to pull her aside later and tell her, “Look. Personally, I think what you did was really funny. But we probably shouldn’t do that again.” What is something your kid has done that has warranted the same talk? submitted by /u/geminicrickett1 [link] [comments]”
“My wife and I are flying from the US to South Korea for her sisters wedding. We are bringing our son, who will be 7 months old when we fly. It’s a 14 hour flight and I’m already worried about what will happen. He’s been such a good baby so far, but 14 hours on a plane is tough. Anyone done this before? Any advice? submitted by /u/jameslucian [link] [comments]”
“Do you dad strangers/friends have any advice on how to make vacations tolerable? I have two kids under 5 and trips are miserable to me, to the point where I don’t want to take them anymore. We flew from the Midwest to my parents house in Long Island (they weren’t there the first half of this trip) - on a beautiful lake, near the beach, so much to do or even just look at - and I can’t stop thinking about the emotional opportunity cost…this trip would be phenomenally relaxing without the kids, but”
“Hey all. I’ll try to keep this brief. I recently went on a vacation with my wife and daughter to Paris so that my parents could meet our baby(9 months old now) the flight was about 11 hours with a 6 hour time difference in France from where we live. The flight was a little rough, but all in all our girl only cried maybe 30 minutes of the flight. Our girl took a few days to adjust to the time difference. We had an amazing time and my wife’s sister lives in France so we agreed that after visiting”
“Please pray for me, everyone. We are flying on Tuesday with my nonverbal autistic 6 year old child, and it’s a 5–6 hour flight. We’re visiting family in Mexico and the last time he was on a flight he was 4 years old, so I’m hoping it will be better for him now. The last time we flew, he threw a tantrum midway through the flight for about 30 minutes and it was so embarrassing with everyone looking at us with mean faces. I’m praying this trip goes smoothly and that we have the patience and strengt”
“So my son (3) enjoys directing my wife and I in imaginative play. He has a sense of the fact that conflict is important for stories so sometimes he will tell us to steal his hat or something. The problem is that when we do steal his hat he'll start crying, like tears streaming down his face and dripping onto the floor crying. The first time it happened I was like "I'm so sorry" and gave the hat back but he got annoyed and said "no you're supposed to steal the hat."”
