Concerns range from expensive surgeries and specialized treatments to ongoing medication costs for chronic conditions like kidney disease and joint problems. “My cat got prescribed Drontal today for deworming. I’ve never given her a pill and we had a really rough time. Her dose today is 1 and a half pills and we only managed to get down one full pill at 11pm. In the morning, I could give her the other half a pill, but I’m worried about efficacy and any unintended consequences of splitting it up like that. The vet is closed for the next 3 days, so I can’t ask. What should I do? submitted by /u/Accomplished_Taro378 [link] [comments]”

“My dog 14/15 F has had a flea infestation that my parents left untreated. I have her now and I'm going and getting her taken care of. She's got a bald patch from chewing her skin raw, with scabbing. She's very old and anxious, so I want to get her in and out as quick as possible, and I want to get her flea treatments, give her a bath, treat the house and yard, etc. I'm worried she has an infection/the wounds won't heal properly, which along with the complexities of an old dog”

“I've got four cats, but my question is for two since the other two seem alright. 3yo male (Pumpkin) and 4yo female (Feather) Both treated for fleas at least one week prior (Frontline Gold) Both tested negative via fecal sample for multiple parasites, but I've noticed signs of tapeworms. Vet said the fecal exam doesn't detect tapeworms. Feather was given a pre-emptive, broad-spectrum dewormer on September 2nd. Pumpkin has had sporadic bouts of diarrhea. I've seen it in all of them”

“I really need advice on this.. So my cat, Tangerine, when I first got her, had a flea infestation as a kitten. Got rid of it, but later on, she had tapeworms. Got it treated. However after moving into my new place, she had tapeworm about 2 other times, even though I haven't seen a single flea on her. Her fleas I thought were gone since intially getting rid of the flea infestation she had as a kitten... My bedding is washed regularly, my carpets are vaccumed regularly, and the tapeworms keep”

“Any idea what this injection is? My dad took my dog to the vet for what I think is ring worm. (Found ring worm on my cat 5 days ago.) He has no idea what the vet said, And this what I got back. All he knows is that she had a fever. Dog: • 6 years old • female/spayed • mini poodle mix: • 19 pounds • History: some anxiety • Clinical signs: thined fur, red skin • Duration: 2 days • Your general location: USA, OH https://imgur.com/a/P1j1tLj submitted by /u/Additional_Coat4845 [link] &#32”

“Any advice on what to do until the appointment? Today was the first time we’ve noticed / seen worms with our cat. He’s been acting normal lately, eating, playing etc (Most likely tapeworms). He’s 3 years old. Domestic shorthair. Neutered. He doesn’t have fleas and we haven’t noticed any around at all. Not sure how he got them. He does like to eat bugs that appear some times so maybe that way. submitted by /u/delusionalblews [link] [comments]”

“My dog has medication that kills ticks and fleas, a three monthly tablet BUT after our walk today I noticed something black in his face fur. I was worried it may be poo so I went to grab a wipe but on returning it had gone. I thought nothing of it but when it appeared grabbed it with my fingers only to discover to my horror it was a tick. I’d never seen a tick before but Google confirmed it is a tick, all black so I think male. It was tick sized and crawling so didn’t look like it had fed. I flu”

“Help please!! I accidentally gave my cat my dogs Advantage flea treatment. It contains imidacloprid (250mg) but not permethrin. I bathed him immediately with dish soap, and he’s acting totally normal now, but should I take him to the vets? Will he be ok? Totally panicking!! submitted by /u/O-Hann [link] [comments]”

“I contacted my vet to get preventatives since we've been going outside a lot more and when I got there they gave me stuff for tics. When I asked does this work for heartworms they just told me "cats dont get heartworms". I've googled this alot and almost every vet website says yes they do get it, but it's different than dogs. Just wanted to opinion of other vets. submitted by /u/PopossWasTaken [link] [comments]”

“Hello. Just a question. Can pet cats and dogs be dewormed at home or do you still need to consult a vet and vet needs to be the one to do the deworming? If deworming at home, what recommended dewormer do you use? Thank you! submitted by /u/patriz_ [link] [comments]”

“Hi all, Looking for some advice. We are a multi cat household of 2 cats both aged 8 years old - one BLH and one BSH. My BLH recently had many vet visits due to chronic diarrhea. Faecal tests sent last Monday (17th August) of which we are STILL waiting on the results for. My cat went off of his food and was given Panacur by the vets in the meantime which seems to have resulted in longer gaps between looser stools and my cat is showing small signs of regaining his appetite. My other cat, BSH, seem”

“Apologies if this has been asked but we recently have been dealing with fleas and nothing seems to be working. A week ago we put harts flea drops on them but it's just not working and one of our cats is tearing themselves up from itching so much. We bought Adam's flea collars to put on them because we are finally at a loss of what to do. Is it safe to use these a week after using the harts drops? Idk what else to do and I've done nothing but continuously sweep my house but I want to”

“I noticed fleas on my cats a week ago, and applied the Advantage II for cats 9+ lbs on both of them. Then, a few days later, noticed tapeworm segments coming off one of my cats. The vet prescribed Nexgard Combo as a deworming treatment for both cats (as a just in case), but I have my concerns about the application timeline. If I applied that Advantage II on Monday, and was told by the vet to wait 1 week to give the Nexgard Combo, would that not cause an adverse reaction? I just want to be 100% c”

“Cat had fleas and my dog always licks my kitties anus so I'm concerned they have tape worms. Praziquantel 20 mg and pyrantel pamoate 230 mg for cat. Praziquantel 50 mg pyrantel 144 mg and febentel 150 mg for dog. Are these products OK for my pets. I'm obviously going to properly dose by weight. “Poor guy must’ve stepped on a nest as he was squatting to poop. Called the vet and got advice for benydryl dosage in conjunction with his regular apoquel. He is so anxious and freaked out now, would not eat his dinner or treats. Very unlike him. He keeps thrashing and whipping around because he seems to think there are more wasps, even in the house. Any suggestions on how to help him relax? submitted by /u/jaybeep34 [link] [comments]”

“I gave my cat his quarterly deworming medicine yesterday. he was completely fine all day yesterday, playing around, being an Orange cat, eating and going to litter properly. However since today morning he’s not eating and even. Whatever little bites he ate, he puked it out. Even his favourite treats he vomitted. But he’s not being lethargic, he still has a lot of energy and wants to play. So I’m just a bit concerned If this is normal after giving his deworming medicine? EDIT to add: I tried chan”

“My cat has been battling tapeworms for years, He's outside/inside and definitely hunting and eating mice and the occasional rabbit. I have him on Vet recommended monthly topical, and occasionally a 3 month, heavier duty med when recommended. My boy sleeps with me, very snuggly, sometimes i wear him like a scarf so he can nap in his favorite spot. It's not unlikely that I might have ingested an infected flea larvae, as I give him kisses on his head sometimes. Sort of concerned, but wonder”

“It was detected through bloodwork test and regular bloodwork that is apparently also indicative of heartworms at his first vet visit. I have experience with sub-q fluids, inhalers, injected meds, liquid meds, pill meds. His only current symptom is wheezing and occasionally coughing. Vets, what do you suppose his outlook is? I will be keeping him and giving him any and all supportive care he needs. My 3 other cats are not infected and I’ve read it’s non contagious. To me it seems hopeful he’s alr”

“My 19 year old cat keeps laying in her litter box. It started at the end of June. I have brought her to the vet twice this month, and the vet is convinced it's because her blood pressure is still high. We upped the dose on her meds and I've started giving her gabapentin, but she still lays in the litter box for most of the day. She has been blind for a year and adjusted well when it happened, so this is new behavior for her. She is at stage 2 CKD, but her other labs are good for her age”
