“Good Morning - My dog (15lb intact dachshund/7 years old/no underlying conditions) ate unidentified rat poison a week ago (found in an open container in the dining room of an extended family member's home). They were small green crunchy pellets. They induced vomiting within 20-25…”
“Hi, I’ve been feeding the neighborhood tom cat and one of them has multiple abrasions to his nose from fighting that is now affecting his eye and has facial swelling. I have human amoxicillin dosing at 825mg and was wondering how much I should give him. His estimate weight is 10-15lbs. Before commenting to take him to the vet, I have $20 in my account. If I could take him, i would. Please useful comments only, this cat means dearly to me - sincerely cat mom of 5 and broke college student s”
“Hey everyone, so I’m in a bit of a predicament. I have an almost 7 month old purebred Mainecoon, he is a recently neutered male. Since I’ve gotten him at 3 months old he has always had consistent eye and nose gunk (which has improve), but has also had a little bit of labored breathing. As he grew, his breathing got a bit worse, and about a month ago I noticed that when he relaxes or sleeps his whole body shakes/shivers. He also snores loudly, and gets whizzy/gunky breathing when in certain posit”
“As it says. Hades, he's a 3 year old black DHS, got into a box of pancake mix. Not sure how much he ate, but there's no toxic ingredients and my gf and I deepcleaned and he's acting mostly the same albeit a bit sleepy, hiding more and less motivated to do things like climb into the sink and look for more food. Last night he vomited up almost all of it, no blood or coffee grounds texture. It was kinda yellowish which lines up with the belief that he has gastrointestinal distress. Baby”
“My cousin’s dog, about 15-20lbs shih tzu mix, ate around 1oz of 70% dark chocolate 12 hours ago. I urged them to take her to the vet or call pet poison, but they chose not to (I was at work and did not find out they decided not to take her to the vet until hours after the event). What are we looking at in terms of damage done and side effects at this point? submitted by /u/Impressive_Garage534 [link] [comments]”
“Hey yall! I just adopted this rescue from our vet and I shortly noticed he has a third eyelid. The Vet receptionist told us they checked his eyelid and he’s okay but I’m not sure what it is. I figure we’d wait a couple weeks and take him to get looked at if it persists but I’m nervous! I also noticed he’s pretty warm. He has water and everything he needs I just worry about him. I don’t have a thermometer on hand, I just noticed he’s kind of hot to the touch. Any clues? submitted by /”
“Hi. So I have a 20lbs puppy that licked some of the red coating off of a 200mg ibuprofen pill. He licked a nice amount off. I can’t afford a vet right now and poison control is also expensive. It’s only been less than an hour and he seems fine. What should I do? I’m freaking out! submitted by /u/dualpilled [link] [comments]”
“Hello vets, I need some help with questions I forgot to ask my vet yesterday and dont want to keep pestering them. My boy, Cinder age 2, had to be rushed to the vet on Sept 19th when he couldn't stand and was vomiting. His kidneys were failing, potassium was high enough to start causing heart failure if it wasnt immediately addressed and he had an urethra obstruction and "sandy urine". After insulin, fluids, getting the block out, antibiotics and a catheter placed he was released b”
“Just got home from being gone for an hour. My beagle got into an unopened box of chewy granola bars and ate 13 of them with the wrappers and all. Regular vet is closed and poison control just told me to keep an eye on if he is pooping and eating. So far he has pooped and is drinking normally. Anything I need to look out for? submitted by /u/Whats_In_A_Name_6 [link] [comments]”
“I’m hoping to get some opinions from veterinarians, especially anyone with experience in feline cardiology or nutrition. I’m starting to wonder if I should be looking more closely at something my cats have in common. I have four male cats, all of whom were originally feral/outdoor cats found around my parents’ country property. We looked for owners and cared for/socialized them with the intention of getting them adopted. They either never got adopted or weren’t really adoptable, so they ultimate”

It wasn’t the full ball but I’d say about 3/4 of it or half. She yelped and cried loudly as it was going down her throat, then stopped crying and seems normal now. “All her bloodwork is fine. I’ve spent $1100 on her since Sunday.. but what the heck!! Everything is perfectly fine and her eyes have been this way since Saturday. Off and on.. usually shows worse when she’s laying down or tilting her head in different positions. When she is alert and wide awake I don’t see it much. any ideas on if it’ll go away?? The vet has done everything. Bloodwork, xray, eye exam, body exam, fecal, you name it, everything! I also feel like the left side/orange side is more w”
“My dog (10yr old puggle, about 23lbs, no prior health problems) got into the garbage and ate cooked goat bones. Rushed him to the emergency vet because he was gagging and shaking and they did an x ray and ultrasound and see bone stuck in his throat and some in his stomach. They’re trying to find a surgeon that specializes in esophagus surgery before doing the endoscopy to remove the bones. They said if they’re able to do that to avoid surgery that’s a better outcome. What can I expect? What are”

“im really paranoid about this stuff so can somebody tell me if im overreacting or not. around 11hrs ago two of my cats got a hold of my kitchen cabinet and opened packages of granola and some ramen noodles, don't think they ate a lot of that but i also had a pizza flavored bread roll, like with some tomato sauce and maybe a bit of cheese (there is no list of ingredients online for this and the shop i can check it in opens in 2hrs) but they ate the whole thing. then the night came, they woke”

“Hey everyone, I dont know if I used the right flare but here we go. (Its a long one, sorry, i still hope you take the time to read it) We just got the message I feared, one of our cats has been tested positive for giardia. I was worried he had it for a while because he had been having loose stools forever but he also had 2 negative tests. Backstory: (You can probably skip that) We adopted Urmel in Febuary of 2025 from a rescue. I had our other cat Lumi since June the year before, but moved conti”
“I noticed yesterday my maltipoo (Lexi) (9yrs/9lbs) was extremely lethargic. She looked like she was fading in and out (like she was drunk) and would not move or eat. We immediately rushed to the Vet ER and her eye pressure got a reading of 70 mm Hg. At this point, one drop Lantanoprost was administered and the next reading was 60 mm Hg. I was sent home with Dorzolamide eye drops where I would administer it every 2 hours for the next 24 hours. Lexi’s energy looked better the next but I could tell”
“My chi ate a chips ahoy cookie when we left home. I know chocolate is not ok for her. I’m hoping it won’t affect her but what can I do considering our go to vet is closed. She is 13 but very active A chihuahua Seeming fine as of now submitted by /u/reignbowbish [link] [comments]”
“I KNOW this advice does not replace medical advice. I'm just trying to save money & stress for the both of us, as I work full time, am in grad school full time, and completing an internship of 17 hours/week. Two days ago I caught my cat ripping pieces of a cardboard box trying to get attention and food. I was in a virtual session with a client, and told them I needed to step away. I was able to get a small piece of clear tape from her, but as I opened her mouth, I saw a thin piece of the”
“My 4-6 y.o. (rescue) 14lb pup got sick two days ago after eating three (human) bite-sized pieces of very salty, garlicky steak the night before. He did not eat his breakfast and around noon started refusing water too. By the time I got home from work he’d thrown up once productively (fully digested kibble, prev. night’s dinner). He vomited bile and mucus then five more times that evening and couldn’t comfortably lay down for more than a few minutes. So we took him to an ER vet around midnight. H”
“For context my dog Maltese yorkie about 5 1/2 pounds just ate a peach pit that he snagged from my side table while I wasn’t looking he seems fine however idk what to do in a perfect scenario I would drive him down there immediately but my family is currently in a bad place financially so we have to make every dollar count and 600 for an we visit is steep for us I’m not sure what to do if it’s totally necessary we can bare the price tag but If it’s not what should I watch for and what should I ke”
“Chloe had one eye removed from severe glaucoma. She did great with that a year ago. Now she is suddenly blind in the other eye and surgery is not an option this time. The vet prescribed 2 different eye drops and pain meds and she’s been on those since Sunday. “There’s been something going on with my dogs (11 y/o Chiweenie) eye for the last week and a half or so. It started with me noticing that one eye was a little droopier than the other (only minorly) and when he would wake up I would see his third eyelid before it went away throughout the day. He’ll usually let me know when he’s in pain and he’s been acting okay. Yesterday woke up, and it was significantly worse, so I took him to an urgent care clinic. They did a pressure test, an ulcer test, and a”

“Tl;dr dog with liver portal vein hypoplasia ate some potentially toxic berries. She has no toxicity symptoms. It's after hours and only vet resource rn is emergency room. Am I ok to monitor at home? My dog is 4yo and 22lb. I was at a sniffspot with a friend this afternoon, and saw my pup snacking on something in the grass. I went over and saw that she was eating some fallen berries - I am pretty sure the plant was pokeweed, which I know is toxic. I of course moved her away from that spot and”
“Hi friends! Looking to get some opinions before I splash the cash on a vet visit Sooo a couple of days ago, my dog was up all night with diarrhea, I’m talking 6 poops within a 12 hour span. The diarrhea had stopped by the following afternoon, but now we have gone the complete other direction and she has not pooped in over 48 hours. Energy levels have been good and still has the same big appetite that she always does. No signs of pain or discomfort, still happy to go on walks and lots of pees but”
“I posted this a while back and just wanted to repost so I could hopefully reach somebody. In addition to all of the test I’ve done and written below, we just completed a fecal culture on both of my cats and everything came back negative. The vets are starting to think they independently have gastrointestinal conditions but the timing is just so odd to me. Please let me know if any of you have seen this before. I’ve also gone to multiple vets and they are stumped. About two months ago, I found a”
“I am confused and would appreciate insight here in NY. My 12.4 lb, 15 year old female spayed domestic short haired tabby cat has gone blind. I thought I noticed slight pupil changes in one eye earlier this year but my partner told me it’s probably just how the light was hitting her eye. The pupil looked slightly crooked but she otherwise seemed normal. This weekend, I noticed she wasn’t tracking me while I walked around like she normally did and suspected she went blind despite navigating around”
“I'm hoping to get some advice from people who have dealt with pancreatitis in dogs. Winnie was seen at an emergency vet last night. I'm planning to schedule a follow-up with her primary vet. I'm mainly trying to figure out how best to care for and feed her at home in the meantime. “My 3 year old 19lb standard dachshund ate a piece of a silicone lickmat, about 1 to 1.5 inches in size. A day later he started immediately vomiting continuously. I took him to an emergency vet that day which was Friday the 7th. Two days later he was discharged, saying whatever foreign object he had in the xray/sonogram had passed through the colon. He was eating normally. He came home that evening with medications (Carafate, Metoclopramide, and Omeperzole). He pooped that evening and he actually”

“i don’t have money to go to the ER. I went to the ER last time because my dog ate something she wasn’t suppose to and ended up spending 3k (it happened last month and i’m still recovering from it). she ate an entire tube of the virbac toothpaste and i just want to know if she’ll just throw up or poop it out. i didn’t even realize because i was in the shower and she got on the counter to grab it. by the time i got out and saw her chewing, all i saw was the toothpaste smeared over my blankets and”
“EDIT: She threw up the whole piece. Bc she's a little pig that doesn't chew her food. Vet said no need for blood work. Also, I was only asking in here cause I thought this was a vet sub? All is well!! I'm at the vet, and they are inducing vomiting. My 10ish pound dog ate half of a small seedless, red grape about 30 minutes ago. If they induce vomiting do I really need to spend the extra money on blood work too considering I brought her in within 30 minutes of eating it. And I know it”

“Hi all, I want to open this with the fact that I took my baby to an emergency vet, but I don’t fully trust the outcome. The vet checked my cat’s gums, which were pink, his tummy, which was squishy, and then just administered an antibiotic and an anti-vomit injection, advising me to come back on Monday for a further dose. He had a fever, which led her to tell me it probably wasn’t even the thread, rather it was an injection. However, at an unknown point, my cat swallowed sewing thread, an entire”
“Hi My ten year old Bichon Westie got into some chocolate earlier today. A dime bar and a sliver if dark chocolate. Think maybe a fifth of a square of the dark chocolate. It wasn't open so that's all he could get. It happened around 11.30 or 12 today. I have been watching him and nothing had changed, no vomiting, diarrhea restlessness or anything out of the ordinary. Will he be okay? He got into a chocolate biscuit before Christmas and was fine after that and was told to just monitor him”

He is a male, almost 6, and 3.8kg. We are in the UK. “I noticed what what is probably an eye infection with the dried mucus on one of her eyes, fine, I’ve seen that before, and plan to take her to the vet once I’m not sick (I can’t go vomiting all over the vets office). What concerns me more is that her eye has slightly changed colour. There’s a brown spot in her usually clear green eyes. I haven’t noticed it before today, and again I do plan to take her to the vet for the eye infection, just wanted some insight about the colour change, if its tied”
“Hello lovely vets of Reddit! I'm almost positive we're fine, but its been one of those days (in one of those months in one of those years) and I'd appreciate confirmation - or a hard disagreement if I'm way off base! “I think one of my bulldogs has dry eye. He’s starting to produce green goop in one eye and some clear goop in both eyes. I’m taking him to the vet this week. I’m very anxious about this because I’m worried he has dry eye. If that’s the case then he’s going to need eyedrops or ointment for life. My other bulldog has dry eye. Giving him eyedrops is easy because he’s so nice. This other dog of mine is the sweetest jerk I’ve ever loved. He bit me so hard one time when I was wiping vomit off of his f”

“We are at a loss for what to do. Our dog ate a corn cob (possibly more than one) and then was vomiting/no appetite a week later. We went to the vet, had a scan which found a build up of gas so they did explatory surgery but couldn't find anything by feeling his stomach and intestines. He then came home and after the meds ran off, started vomiting again.. back to the vet we go, this time they did an ultrasound but couldn't see anything wrong. He has come home and is still vomiting and now”

“Hey everyone, my cat recently had a second urinary blockage, and thankfully he’s doing well now and is back home. We think it happened because he was getting into our dog’s food without us realizing it. I had a question for anyone who’s been through something similar. Since coming home, he’s been peeing about once a day, but it’s a large amount and he’s not straining or showing any signs of discomfort. “So, yesterday we spent 350 at the vet because she’s had explosive diarrhea on and off for like 4 days and she’s pooped in the house twice. She’s very well potty trained so it’s extra concerning. I thought she had eaten the single white mushroom in the yard that has the potential to be deadly. But the yard is fulllll of brown mushrooms that cause diarrhea. I just had to make sure it wasn’t the deadly kind. So she’s pooped all over the house again this morning and like, somehow she’s getting ahold”
