“I live in the basement of a relative's house, and last night their toilet overflowed and went through the floor/ceiling into my bathroom and another part of the basement. The entire basement bathroom is made out of brick. The floor, the walls, and brick steps going to a jacuzzi…”

“My parents had that carpet in their living room. I always thought it was hideous. Cap the drain but keep in mind it was there for a reason. Does the basement have a sump pump? If you plug that drain in the floor without a sump pump, the water has nowhere to go. It is also kind of crazy to me that the carpet and underlayment foam is directly on the concrete floor. I suggest a product like Dampro or similar product. The great side effect of this is that the dimpled underlayment will raise the over”
“Exterior basement wall — the house is ~55 years old, and has had some water problems in the basement. Is this indicative of water damage behind and I need to cut some holes to inspect the studs behind the drywall? Or is this just something that happens over 5 decades and I can just sand, mud, paint, and be done with it? TIA! submitted by /u/dryeraseboard8 [link] [comments]”
“Service techs said I need a UV light. There was mold on the plastic. I also pull out about 2 gallons of water from the drip drain outside every two weeks. House is 3 years old. submitted by /u/feedthedonkey [link] [comments]”

The entire basement bathroom is made out of brick. The floor, the walls, and brick steps going to a jacuzzi. It got all over the steps and the floor. Is there any way to clean and disinfect brick? I have really bad OCD when it comes to germs and things being contaminated, so this is my worst nightmare. In my mind, brick abs”
“Our main water drain backed up and sewage water leaked out in two large spots. I’m mostly going to throw out the towels and things it touched, and bleach any objects worth saving. However I’m not sure how best to sanitize the floor and concrete block walls. The floor is concrete that’s been painted, but it’s chipping in places. I think I’ll use towels to sop up the majority of the water and throw those away. Clorox wipes don’t seem very efficient due to the size of the contaminated areas. Any id”
“Hello, We noticed some water pooling under our fridge 2 days in a row and pulled the fridge forward to see this. The floor has a good amount of cupping and a small section in it where it’s very spongy and I can tear up a little of the corner. How soon am I hopping to? Thank you friends 🫡 submitted by /u/elninochamomile [link] [comments]”
“This is drywall in a downstairs kitchen. Behind this drywall is the main stack pipe, and the upstairs toilet is directly overhead. We noticed this stain today which seemingly came out of nowhere — is this a sign of a leak or water spraying or something? There are no stains on the wall below this. submitted by /u/LazyNubbz [link] [comments]”
“1920s craftsman house in Denver. There is a section of my basement drywall along the base of the stairs that has rotted out. The previous owner or whoever finished the basement applied it essentially right on top of the concrete foundation, and obviously moisture has intruded over time. I demod out the existing drywall, patched the concrete foundation where it had some spalling and applied a waterproof paint membrane. On top of that I've added a layer of foam insulation to separate the drywa”
“With the heavy rainfalls this summer my unfinished basement has flooded twice and I’m unsure if water coming back up is contaminated with sewage. Does anyone have advice on how to clean and disinfect concrete basement floor with no real ventilation (no windows). submitted by /u/StruggleRight7444 [link] [comments]”
“The fridge water line leaked for several days while we were out of town and came back to some water puddle. We removed the floor and there is green mold. We treated it with vinegar and let it dry. Do we have to remove all the green areas? Or can we just install the floor back? submitted by /u/notulei [link] [comments]”
“My unfinished basement in the eastern United States developed mold on the ceiling joists. It's been treated with Concrobium and the moisture has been fixed. Now it's time to clean before fogging. Unfortunately the mold went undetected for a long time, so my ERMI score was 35. I know mold spores from the ceiling have gotten on every surface in the basement, even though there's no active growth on the walls or floor. ls it enough to HEPA vacuum the cement walls, or do they need to be w”
“(I read through the rules but if I missed anything and this post isn't allowed, please let me know.) Our finished basement recently had a horrific septic backup. We've had the damage mitigated, dried and biohazards handled. As well as the septic tank addressed/declogged. Unfortunately, there was obviously a lot of water damage. My insurance company is requesting an inventory of things that were destroyed. My question is how detailed do I need to get when making this inventory? Thankfully”
“We pulled a couch out and I had once before painted that line because it’s right at the back of it and kids and pets what not it got a line of wear there so I painted it. We are now moving that couch and noticed there are these two dark spots. There is blanket laid over the couch that is dark green so I can’t tell if it’s moldy or just the dye wearing onto the wall. We wiped the left spot off and it came right off with a wet towel and cleaner. But the drywall is a little dented there. If we push”
