“So i have an old thinkcentre m710q sitting in my attic (wifi only gets really hot in the summer) running a couple of my sites. And I wanted a dashboard and instead of just using homepage or glances i ended up making this. It gives like a win2000 desktop vibe with a biblically accurate angel in the middle. Every eye is one of my services, if something goes down the eye closes and starts crying. The wheels spin faster with cpu load and it goes from white to red when the attic heats up. also lain i”

“Thanks to Claude, I can now easily have and maintain my own dashboard for my homelab. Has everything I need right where I need it. From clock to fuel prices, 3d printing, and so on. submitted by /u/plesasta_pevka [link] [comments]”

“I somewhat see where you are coming from. I suppose I’d have to know the whole setup to get the full picture. I’ve had better luck than expected lately with running a local setup like this using Mac hardware. Just bang for buck, multi-mac setup has been the better investment. But that’s for my job and home lab. If that’s what your client wanted, then more power to them. That’s for the info! [re: Building a 4x R9700 setup for a 10 person startup]”

“idk. the new layout on my chromecast's is awesome. i love the server dashboard now - i use docker tautulli typically but now i can look right from my plex app which is a nice feature. I also like the menu changes.. Now the update they did to the firesticks. that was straight up awful. i had to go back to my chromecast because the experience was just awful. I wonder more why layouts are different on different devices. You'd think they'd just pick one design and push it to all systems.”

I'd love to hear what you'd improve, replace or add. Everything is on a single machine except OpnSense (dedicated mini PC) and Unifi controller (Pi 4) The Opnsense machine also runs Adguard Home, Crowdsec and Wireguard The main server has following specs i3-121”

“Thank you🔥 I got very deep into studying it and start having pleasure to find out new features and opportunities with all these stuff. Im using karakeep for some websites mostly for shopping. To order stuff, clothes, devices and so on. For now i paused this adventure. Planing to buy new laptop for linux + docker + self hist and NAS for streaming”

“I'd pick based on where your data lives and who owns the admin long term, not on the feature list. If you already have a real backend (Postgres, Supabase, your own API), put the admin on top of it with Retool, Appsmith or ToolJet. Roles, audit history and permission rules then live in the database, so swapping the admin tool later is a few weeks of UI work, not a migration. That's the main way to avoid regret. If the dashboard is the product, or you don't have a backend yet, Bubble w”

“As a maintainer, I document my homelab stuff too but nothing special, just a couple of tables. What I can recommend are web views if you want to make some pages accessible directly from Trilium (dashboards, hubs, admin panels, etc.) and the dashboard collection can be really nice if you want to have some information displayed. Here's how my Trilium maintainer dashboard looks like, you could probably make something similar for your home lab. It's clearly not something professional like Gr”

“lol. Have fun. You will learn a heap for sure. Best thing is it’s all native you’re just moving Md files around and using some MCP servers. It’s just those files wrapped into some html and css.”

“DuoVault is a slick name for a dashboard, mine is just called "stuff" and it's a mess That Beszel + Uptime Kuma combo is exactly what I need to set up next, been putting off proper monitoring for way too long”

“Check out Homer or Glance if you want something fast and minimal with clean YAML config. Bento and Flame are also great if you want a sleek, bookmark-focused start page without all the homelab monitoring bloat.”

“Same. Was hard to take the plunge but what I have now is so much better. I’m using Cosmic DE which has great tiling. That alone is so nice. It is just fast and does what I need.”

“I've been homelabbing it for a few years now. The actual hypervisor is extremely mature (basically Xen Server), but their management UI (Xen Orchestra) doesn't expose a lot of functionality. Their UI has been going through a full rewrite, so hopefully things get better. I still find it easier to use the old UI for most tasks, though (It's a one-click to flip between them).”

I have a Claude CLI session that maintains it all.

“Maybe checkout OpenDesk. It pieces together a handful of tools to cover most of the functionality you get with M365. Univention Corporate Server for AD/LDAP, Open-Xchange App Suite (which ties together everything for mail + webmail), NextCloud for cal/contacts/docs, and some other things. I’ve only toyed with some of those at home, but most pieces are well established in their realms.”

“Hey, I’ve been working on a small dashboard for my own homelab and thought it might be useful to others, so I decided to make it open source. It’s called Dashmon . The idea is pretty simple: have one clean page for my self-hosted apps, without spending ages configuring everything. You can organize apps by categories and hosts, check if services are up, monitor CPU/RAM on your hosts, use different themes, and manage the dashboard directly from the UI. It runs with Docker and I tried to keep the i”

“Gethomepage is the easy answer and most folks land there. My pushback is on the bookmarks question. Past ten apps a real dashboard earns its place, because what you want is not links. It is status per app and a view of what is currently broken. Whatever you pick, make sure it shows health per app. Green, red, grey. Otherwise you traded bookmarks for a bookmarks page. We run a small script hitting each app health endpoint with a dot next to the link. Saves the is it down or did I typo the URL loo”

“All of them are doing a great job. Cleanuparr and Profilarr may be overwhelming and confusing at first, but once you figure out the basics, you're good to go. Bazarr is the easiest and most straightforward one, maybe you missed an important step, which is configuring the providers and linking Radarr and Lidarr. Once that's done, it will automatically do your job for you. Profilarr syncs Trash Guides, and you can also control the quality profiles for both Radarr and Sonarr at the same tim”

“Definitely a guide is needed. There are numerous guides available on YouTube. I followed a few and then used Claude to help me with the parts I didn't understand. Sorry, I forgot which channels I followed. I know it's a bit overwhelming to start, but once you figure out the basics, you'll be fine. My *arr stack contains 11 containers: Radarr, Sonarr, Lidarr, Prowlarr, Bazarr, Gluetun (ProtonVPN), qBittorrent, Jellyfin, Seer, Profilarr, and Trawl. Additionally, I have set up Cleanupar”

But why you have dashboard in your homelab?

“This is the actual dashboard I use for monitoring and getting access to all my services and web configs. I was running Homepage on my network, but I wanted to display more info on my screen so I didn't need to get into my monitoring services to get simple info. Although Homepage had widgets for my services, for me it wasn't enough. This dashboard is an integration of Uptime Kuma + Beszel + Gotify, my full stack of self-hosted monitored services. All it does is connect via API to all thes”

“A good reply. Thanks. I'd still have concerns about the affordance of having a multi-layered wheel, with relatively small hit areas. The potential for error seems high, and potentially critical if some of the actions assigned are destructive. Maybe it's one of those patterns that requires the user to build up muscle memory before it becomes more expedient than other options. TBH, your promo video runs too fast to really get a good sense of what's going on. Nothing stays still on scre”

r/selfhostedSep 2

“It looks like a lot when you see all the icons together, but most of it is pretty hands-off once it’s set up 😄 Proxmox is the base layer and runs a few VMs/LXCs. Most of the media stuff lives together in one Docker VM, Home Assistant has its own VM, and the smaller infrastructure services run separately where it makes sense. Homepage is basically just the front-end pulling status/info from all of them through APIs and a few small helper scripts. Reverse proxying, monitoring, backups, container”

“For dashboards, it feels like there are more options than in almost any other self-hosted app category. I'm currently using Dashwise , which I've been building for about a year, but I genuinely like checking out what else people are using and how other dashboards approach things. Before that I used Glance, mostly for its simplicity - which also made it feel a bit limited. I ended up not using it that much, which is why I decided to instead take the diy route. What dashboard are you curre”

“Astro. It's amazingly flexible. Hugo if you want something more lightweight. Note for both you need to be somewhat comfortable with html/CSS/js, or be OK with using a coding agent to write it for you. Hugo is based off of Go templating, which is very flexible and easy to learn. Astro lets you combine Markdown and JavaScript and is more modern. I use Astro for my site here: https://ejl.st If you want something dead simple there are plugins out there that make this easy. The benefit with stati”

r/selfhostedAug 29

“In the long run it is probably good to learn YAML and CSS anyway - it is becoming somewhat standard and works for a lot of different things (eg Obsidian notes, markdown, docker etc) and despite being a bit fussy with spacing is fairly intuitive once you learn. If you can launch a docker compose file or Obsidian frontmatter, you already know yaml! One thing about moving away from Mac & Cloud to Linux & self-hosting (even though I was in tech for 30 years, it was still a bit overwhelming f”

“My dashboard contains a mix of regular bookmarks and self-hosting software. I choose https://gethomepage.dev/ as it was the simplest to use and get going, IMO. Pretty much all the software is available to me via Tailscale serve. There are some that can be accessed via web (like Seerr) but that's though a Cloudflare Tunnel, no ports on my router are open. I'll probably breakup page #1 sometime in the future as it's gotten quite long LOL. 😅 Any thoughts? Here's the first page brok”
