“Unfortunately, I guess that is the point of the tariffs. They will probably go away soon. It isn't in anyone's best interest.”

Several Shopify store owners are concerned about new 50% tariffs imposed on goods made in Canada, impacting pricing and potentially requiring price increases for US customers. Some suggest adjusting prices proactively to mitigate the impact of these tariffs.

“I stopped shipping there in August last year when the tariffs started. Don't want to deal with that mess, focusing on my Canadian customers.”
“I work with companies that drive their products into the US and ship from there. Expensive products though, and likely doesn’t work for everyone. Unfortunately, eating up those fees or increasing your prices is probably all you have. Shop around for a new shipping partner, find out your options, then move forward with a plan.”
“Yes, I increase my US market pricing across the board with a blanket percentage to cover the duties. Shipping is about the same or cheaper as it is in Canada. I take my average shipping cost per product (small variance depending on destination) and then work the duties out from there and what I present to CBP. You can do this with Shopify if you use their shipping, but I don't, so it's more work and you have to be accurate/update more often as things shift. I wouldn't say it's a”

My American clients have felt similar pain though... ordering inventory and not knowing if the price they ordered it at originally is the price they'd pay by the time it made it through customs. Such a cluster this past year. Sorry to hear about your business too.”
“Sorry - I’m very sensitive about it as a Canadian made brand. It’s totally fucked our business and cost me upwards of $500k at this point 😭”
“Hi, if someone could help me figure this out I'd be very grateful! I am not sure if the new 50% tariff applies to small handmade jewelry - both Zonos and the calculator on Etsy are showing me the same numbers as before for items - is the new cost not included? Or does it apply to shipping feeds at the post office? submitted by /u/TinyFeline [link] [comments]”
“Canada now participating, with 'retaliatory tariffs' instead of finding cheaper/more cooperative country options, hinting that the politicians there too just want to inflate.”
“I hated to do it but I’ve turned off international shipping. I’m now a “Canada only” Etsy shop, which really sucks because about 50% of my orders are from the USA. I sell original art and fine-art prints, which just went from 0% tariff to 50%. I’m assuming this applies to all Canadian sellers since it was a sweeping 50% submitted by /u/Ok_Advice_4723 [link] [comments]”
yes this. A LOT of stuff is on the list. but not everything.
“I don’t think there will be retaliation tariffs on US products. That didn’t work last time and I don’t think Carney has indicated that he would do so. Canada will retaliate in other ways.”
“Even better have different prices for US customers and make it very clear WHY there is a price difference”
“I think it's more important to up you price before hand, as border isn't going to care”
“I just got an email that this coming. There's never a decent warning time. How are other Canadian stores that sell Canadian products handling this? This will completely destroy stores that primarily sell to the USA. Also, what happens if an order is placed August 19th, the customer pays the current 10% tariff, but the shipping label is created on August 20th or later? submitted by /u/Nscaler454 [link] [comments]”
