Users are encountering issues and limitations within Notion, including problems with background colors in tables, disappearing features (HTML blocks), block limits, and difficulty accessing database IDs. This suggests usability challenges and a lack of stability.

“The AI agents are right on this one, unfortunately — cells just render plain values, no clickable icons or buttons. The closest I've gotten is using a URL property when the action is a link, since those render as clickable in table views. For anything…”
“Notion’s pretty rigid with formatting inside cells, you’re not getting true clickable icons in there [re: im looking for a way to add clickable icons and a text inside a database cell, is that possible]”
“As someone who has been doing something similar with CSS to make Notion look less ugly I would absolutely LOVE to see this addon, especially if we can create our own styles. The styles you have shown look really good. I hope you can incorporate different styles and colors for different heading levels as I always struggle to tell whether something is a Heading 1, Heading 2 or Heading 3 and having them as different colours really helps make them stand out.”
“If you have Notion AI, prompt it to make you a custom block with all the features you want. That's how I got custom fonts in Notion.”
“yaaaay, glad to help <3 also, idk if you know this already, but you can set the template as default per database view, that way whenever you create a new page, the selected template is used”
“Update from Oct 2026: I checked this via the Notion API. A normal subpage has parent.type = page_id , whereas a page created inline (e.g. inside a simple-table cell) has parent.type = block_id , pointing to the containing block — in my test, the table row. Unfortunately, Notion’s public API can only reparent an existing page to another page or a database ( data_source_id ), not to an arbitrary block. So there still doesn’t appear to be a supported way to convert an existing subpage to inline whi”
“Notion only splits pasted content into columns if it's tab-separated. Two ways that work: Put the data in Google Sheets or Excel first (one value per cell), select the cells, copy, then click into the first empty row of the Notion table and paste. Each spreadsheet column lands in the matching Notion column, left to right, so reorder the sheet columns to match the table first. For a lot of rows: save it as a CSV, then in the database open the ••• menu → "Merge with CSV". CSV headers”
Possible workaround that worked for me... If I try MOVING (or ctrl+x) the blocks, I get an error about too large to move. If I COPY (ctrl+c -> paste) the blocks, it…
do you have a sharable template of this page? love the setup!
“I’ve never been able to paste highlighted text into Notion without loosing the highlighting. Lmk if that’s possible, but that isn’t what I’m referring to in this post. I either manually type or copy-and-paste the text into Notion and then manually highlight the text in Notion. Once I’ve made a page in Notion, there are times when I won’t visit that page again for a while and will return to find that all the highlighting has disappeared. That’s what I’m trying to prevent.”
“I'm experiencing the same issue in September 2026. When I create a new page in a database without selecting a template first, the template options often don't appear on the blank page. Sometimes they still don't show up even after waiting for several minutes or reloading the page. Interestingly, if I type something in the page and then delete it so the page becomes blank again, the template options sometimes appear. Clearing the browser cache temporarily fixes the issue, but it comes”
“Feature request - pinned or floating blocks. Blocks that stay visible regardless of how far down the page you scroll. This could be great for scratch pads or navigation menus. One floating block per column, or they’d stack on top of each other vertically if multiple pinned blocks could be allowed. Feature request - color options within tabbed blocks. Similar to how adding a text or background color to callouts works, but able to be applied to individual tabs within a tabbed block. Feature reques”
“💡 Feature Request — Auto-fit database column widths Please add an option to automatically resize database table columns to fit their displayed content, similar to AutoFit in Excel or Google Sheets. Ideally this could be available by double-clicking the column divider, with an additional “Auto-fit all columns” option for the entire view. Manually resizing every property becomes tedious when creating or modifying database views, especially when databases have many properties.”
Even in 2026, Notion does not support sticky scroll capabilities 😭
“If you use a single backtick each side, it’s formatted in a way Notion chooses to represent code. You can’t change that.”
“The client login thing is the real blocker with Notion, yeah. Airtable has interface designer which kinda works for external views but its clunky and you still pay per seat. I went with Wisegrid for something similar because viewers are free and you can set up filtered views per client so they only see their rows. still use Notion for docs tho, no reason to move that part.”
“A small note on this: Notion AI can mess up when it attempts to edit pages like this”
“That sounds more like a column-width or view setting than deleted data. I’d first duplicate the template, then check the database’s ••• menu → Layout/Properties to see whether the property is hidden or the view is fitting columns to the window. Since it only happens in the Mac app, compare the same page in the web app; if it looks normal there, reset the app zoom/window width and update the app. Check Undo before changing anything else.”
“Before, gallery/board views would show blocks that could fit within range (ie. height). However, a while ago, Notion changed it so the FIRST block is what shows... whether it's a text, image, etc.”

“you can also drag the properties around to reorder them which sometimes jostles the collapsed ones back into view. notion's pretty flaky about remembering what you set for each page layout tho, i've had it randomly hide things on me for no reason”

“In Notion, the philosophy is configuring the “View” that you’re in to filter out rows that have that column checked. It doesn’t truly delete it, it just gets hidden in that view.”
“I don't know what you were doing here but this doesn't work for both the desktop & web apps in 2026 . What instead has to be done is set the blocks colour & then highlight all but one character (the last period in my case) & change it to default. Needlessly convoluted and too much work when making a lot of headway, especially so when using the mobile app. Having to break your flow for something that's achievable, just not supported by Notion, just because.”
“good call on the backup tip, that's easy to overlook when you're eager to run a bulk script”
“Notion doesn't have a way to bulk-change fonts on existing pages, font is per-page, and template updates only apply to new pages going forward, not retroactively. Your realistic options: change them manually per page, or write a script via the API to walk through and update them (though font may not even be an API-settable property.. worth checking first). Recreating pages isn't ideal since you'd lose the relations, which is the right call. One thing worth doing regardless: if you ru”
“Hey, I am using a template right now and the color I want to change to, is not overriding the previous color on the cell. I am so confused.”
“Hi, had this same issue and I had to create a new column with the property type as a Text and just type the information.... now Im trying to dete that column and its unbelivably difficult lol”
“💡 Feature Request — Native text alignment controls (left / centre / right / justify) Notion still has no first-class way to align body text, headings, or table cell content. For client-facing docs, bilingual layouts, and anything that needs to match a source PDF or Word file, centre/right/justify alignment is basic formatting — not a nice-to-have. Today the workarounds are weak: columns for rough centring, empty columns as spacers, screenshots, or exporting elsewhere. None of that survives clea”
“Did anyone figure this out? I'm on v7.30.0 on Windows and this no longer works. I'm unable to select a `Today` as a dynamic field - Notion will just select today's date as a fixed input. Here's my workaround, since I adjust my Due Dates regularly: Color according to "Due Date" where, relative to today, the Due Date is within the Past month: https://preview.redd.it/0p5e8uza28jh1.png?width=328&format=png&auto=webp&s=f121b616a70c749cf5fd034dfc04d362fb42b012”
“pretty sure this is just notion being notion with the first column, it's like a reserved property that acts weird when you try to compress it past a certain point throw a blank text column in front of it and hide that one, works as a janky spacer until they bother fixing it”
“How can I always get sub-items to show when I visit a page? Why on EARTH is this not a basic thing with Notion. I've seen thread where you do fancy things like parent is not empty, etc. but is there an updated, eaiser way? submitted by /u/mgm40 [link] [comments]”
“Huh, I've always just clicked into a new block, and then typed /page<ENTER>. Now I see the New button, but it has <CMD>-N beside it, and it brings up a submenu. But it creates the page at the top level of "Private", so I will never use it. That may just be me being quirky; I like to put new pages somewhere, and as someone else pointed out, its quite often a new database entry, not just a page.”
“Showing only the firt block is so useless, I hate this update. Luckily I have an old template to use but I'll have to keep duplicating.”
“wow... 3 years ago... Did you found the shortcut? I'm doing the Ctrl+D thing, but it's pretty annoying. There's nothing 'till now in the notion's help center & found nothing on googling....”
“I need help! How do I make this section with the data source linked inside those blocks? Everytime I make a callout and linked to view data source, it just shows me a table and not those blocks. Appreciate if anyone can help! https://preview.redd.it/hzqt0ffmnbdh1.png?width=831&format=png&auto=webp&s=71f7f6db80e1a2f2414c1ac0d45f3b7916e0d26d submitted by /u/flowersfleurme [link] [comments]”
“With the html blocks can the changes inside the blocks also change your database? If so, is it bidirectional? You can’t really call it a widget if the interactions with the html blocks don’t change add or delete things inside your notion database”
“Newish to notion. I love it so much… on my Mac. On mobile it’s so frustrating to use! I feel like I have to be missing something. Is there a certain view I need to use? The table setup I have is just cut off everywhere. I wish I could make it small or something. Also taking any other tips and tricks for a newbie. submitted by /u/bven [link] [comments]”
“4 years later: this only seems to apply to the default template. If you create an empty page and then apply a template the value of the property does not get set. There's a later comment in this thread about using a "status" instead of a "select". This seems like the desired behavior as well. I'm not sure if there are any drawbacks other than there must always be a value in a status (you wouldn't be able to delete the default value).”
“Couldn't you already do this but they've now made it easier? Also, you can't edit the HTML file after it creates it which is ...kinda dumb. So you'd have to download the HTML file manually, edit it, and reupload it? Its frustrating how it interacts with your database. It doesn't do a good job of opening any links to pages, it dies if you try to use it to edit any data. Feels super useful if you just want to communicate existing information in various ways, especially if you&#”
“notion just added the possibility of embeddding HTML! Maybe you've already worked your way around it but just so you know”
