“Hi everyone! I've been looking into DIY post-bacc programs, particularly those at UC extensions, and am a bit confused on course classifications / how they translate when reporting in AMCAS (I realize that the ridiculous amount of information I've been going through is probably…”

“I have a question for those of you who completed a postbacc and applied. More specifically those of you who had a low UG gpa and did a decent amount of PB credits to bump that up.. how do you make your school list? My mcat is decent (in the teens) but with transparency my ugpa…”

Many pre-medical students are grappling with concerns about their GPA, course selection for improvement, and even the professional titles they use. There's anxiety around maximizing scores, navigating prerequisites, and presenting themselves effectively to medical schools.

More specifically those of you who had a low UG gpa and did a decent amount of PB credits to bump that up.. how do you make your school list? My mcat is decent (in the teens) but with transparency my ugpa was 2.7 so I took 40 creds of postbacc work, maintaining a full time ER job overnight and managed to maintain a 4.0 all in science classes that were upper level. Now, naturally my gpa is barely above 3 but i would imagine”

“I accidentally inputted my restaurant server entry as "Peer Tutor/Teaching Assistant/Private Tutor", which was a title duplicated from my tutoring/teaching experience entry. Probably not big enough a deal to email schools about, but should I mention a quick detail clarifying that in all of my schools' "Anything else you'd like us to know?" secondaries? submitted by /u/Interesting_Light601 [link] [comments]”

“Hi i am scheduled to graduate Spring 2027, but I have the opportunity to graduate fall 2026. I am a transfer student at a UC and my UC gpa is currently 3.82 and my CC gpa is 3.97. Should I spend another 30k at school for winter and spring quarter to boost my gpa to 3.9 or should I just graduate early and look for jobs?? Any advice for those who graduate early or have any tips? submitted by /u/Ok-Stranger-3951 [link] [comments]”

“Good idea to explain a Deferred Grade for the Thesis Writing Course? (just didn't finish on time and pushed back graduation) Also, what about a single W? (Accidentally dropped the class a day later during registration week) submitted by /u/Professional_Heat_85 [link] [comments]”

“Is like 1 year of biology with lab 1 whole year of bio lab? Or just 1 bio lab? Same with like chem and phys. I know some schools specify but some just say 1 year of x with lab. submitted by /u/jmedsd [link] [comments]”

“My current sGPA is a 3.57 and I need 3 more A's to bump it to a 3.6. However, I've already graduated and I'm not sure if a 3.57 vs a 3.60 is much of a difference for admissions. I do want to maximize my chance for MD schools though. Also, do ADCOMs look at the course code names? For example, these two courses I'm interested in have the same code number but differ by a letter at the end. They're both titled special topics in biology but one goes over medical genetics and the o”

“My girlfriend recently decided to get on the premed path. However, she’s entering her senior year with a 3.3. She’s got Cs and Bs in classes like Ochem, Gen chem, and core bio’s. This Reddit has helped me tremendously so I figured I’d come here for advice on how I can work with her to get her to med school. On the plus side, she’s fortunate enough to be able to take 1 gap year (2 max if necessary). She’s also got some shadowing, couple hundred leadership hours in a premed frat, 1000 volunteer ho”

“I have a difficult to pronounce last name. I either go by doctor first name or doctor last initial.”

“I had a professor with a very long thai last name who used her first name (still thai, but easier to explain/infer the pronunciation) and she asked people to just call her "Dr. [First Name]" she still used Doctor, so not undermining her expertise, especially as a woman, but she actively preferred that we not even attempt with her last name.”

“as a mexican-american with a hard-to-pronounce last name that everyone butchers, i will still faithfully refer to myself as dr. [full last name] while helping my colleagues/patients pronounce it if they're interested. ik it may not be that deep, but only ~6% of U.S. physicians are Latino. in my opinion, seemingly-mundane things, like diverse last names, have such a symbolic effect on patients' receptiveness to care (especially if they're Spanish-speaking), while expanding people'”
