Auto detailers struggle with stubborn paint smudges

“Hi everyone. I hope this post is in the right subreddit. I bought this Dodge Charger a year ago used. It had front end damage before I bought it that I know wasn't repaired the best (the hood was crooked for example) and I can tell the difference in the paint between the panels…”

“Really cool test to see. I have a background in chemistry, and was utterly horrified to see most wheel acids and waterspot removers are hydrofluoric acid, or ammonium bifluoride, which converts to HF in water. HF is turbopoison- easily penetrates skin, removes calcium from your bones, can cause heart attacks with prolonged exposure, and is generally toxic even without its calcium leeching effects. I'm going to do my own testing on this, because citric acid is wildly safer than HF / ABF.”

“I totally get the skepticism. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I probably would be skeptical as well. Like I mentioned in another post, if you rewatch the video and look at the tire shine, that's completely gone and had been for some time. I use Carpro Darkside and I was rather disappointed by the longevity with the last application of it. I'm not sure if I didn't apply it well enough or it was something with the product. But the wheel protection performed better than expect”

Keep up the great work! 👍🏻

“I keep rinseless in a 16oz Armour Detail Supply spray bottle and a stack of microfiber in my trunk. Just came off a long trip through the backwoods of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Every gas stop I'd check the leading edges of the vehicles to find my vehicle had become the grim reaper for entire bug civilizations. I would spray it down before filling with gas, then when the gas finished, come back behind with a plush microfiber to do the rolling wipe thing. As long as you get to t”

“I don't have lint issues with Autofiber, TRC or the green and purple cheap Grants microfibers from Harbor Freight. I've used Rags 2 Riches, Free and Clear, and DI Microfiber restore. Try soaking them before you wash, something else is going on. Washer or dryer may need to be cleaned”

“I’ve used TRC in the past and find them to be a bit linty. Yes, I’m using R2R and hang drying, but my windows today were the last straw. I subscribed to Autoality and saw they have a ton of AutoFiber. Anyone use both? Any noticeable difference? submitted by /u/Vandemonium702 [link] [comments]”

I've never needed to. 256:1 has always performed well in all situations.

“Out of Spec Detailing did a side-by-side of several including both Luminous and Katiba. Initial results seemed very much the same but I'd like to see long-term feedback. Aqua is 25% more expensive for the same package size and dilution ratios. Do you know of any more of these smaller Korean brands? I can add them to my list. Sonax is on sale for 25% off right now direct from their website. I'd get some now if I didn't already have a fresh bottle of Katiba that I'm using at 100:1”

“Okay! I use is 16:1 for QD and felt like it does give some extra lubrication. My car is not real coated, but has a protective layer of seal and shine. Maybe your coating also helps with 256:1 dilution (?)”

“You can do it, but it really sucks as a spray on, rinse off. Might be a week of protection, but probably not even that.”

“Fantastic post. I love data and I love detailing so this is right up my alley. What amazes me is that there are so many products on that list that I've never even heard of. I'm happy to see Nanoskin Supercharger high up on that list. I've been using it for years, and I first discovered it when I worked for a professional detail shop. Our most popular add on by far was a $25 paint protection add-on. After washing the car, we would spray Supercharger all over it, then rinse it off and”

“You don't have to run it long. Just a few seconds to cover the part. It could be enclosed too. I feel like this is safer, but I could be missing something. submitted by /u/hunkoys [link] [comments]”

“My friend worked in a dealer and they had the Ryobi one and they washed 7~8 cars a day. That machine broke down every a few months. I guess reliability is one major concern for Ryobi which is also stated by others such as the lifespan is about 100hrs”

“So far so good! I have been diluting it 1:4 typically and it hasn’t let me down yet! I used 1:2 once so far on my mother-in-laws car as her wheels needed some work and it did great! Just remember 1 wheel at a time and rinse before moving on to the next!”

“Honestly looks good single stage is not easy to work with at all. Tip for you or any one else this stuff typically likes to be hammered on at a lower pressure of like 20-22”

“beginner here, my first 3 are- p&s express interior (i already love this cleaner, i had to buy the gallon) -koch chemie top star -p&s terminator, carpet bomber -p&s true vue glass cleaner. very satisfied with what i have and am practicing on some cars right now and they all seem to get the job done for me. i was really surprised with the terminator and carpet bomber though, i’m using them without an extractor and they’re doing a super good job at cleaning carpets/rugs/fabrics”

“Excellent. I think what’s lost on a lot of people is that what I’ve described here is literally about a minute of work as well. It probably sounds more complicated written out, but spraying product, scrubbing, and squeegeeing is all it is (as you know perfectly well).”

“I need to add a telescoping handle or something so i don't have to crouch to move mine. I retro fitted the bigboi rolling car. Mounted it to a piece of wood. Cut out some indentations in the wood for the feet and used zip ties. I need to paint hte wood so it doesn't look so janky https://preview.redd.it/iuywwau0gfnh1.png?width=1986&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ddf92b0f876c9d611f8745f32f18dcd07dc4a14”

“Many great products out there you can dilute. I’m on a kick right now using McKee’s 37 N-914 Rinseless. Like many Rinseless products they’re very affordable and easily diluted. Since I wash my cars weekly and they have a ceramic coating I wanted something with no protection.”

“Oilfield truck with 235000km of bush life hell. Just did the paint correction and ceramic coating this visit. Booked in for next visit for interior detail, trim, chrome and glass. Pretty happy with how it turned out. Forgot to take a Pic of how it was dropped off but im sure you can imagine on a truck that only ever sees gravel roads and mud! submitted by /u/steelmouse66 [link] [comments]”

The smudged hood is really bothering me. Maybe I damaged it more or is it a paint quality issue? This is the first car I've ever tried to keep nice.
