3D printers can't always print STL files

“I want to 3D print a Wild Kratts animal power disc container, but the ones I found online didn't convince me, so I designed my own. The problem is, I don't know how to use 3D modeling software, and I don't have any. I already have reference images of how I'd like it to look and…”

“I tried to order 3D printed parts of a Plushtrap action figure on a 3D printing service (because I don't have a 3D printer) and I'm having trouble getting the head to be ordered because its file size is too big. I tried various websites…”

The problem is, I don't know how to use 3D modeling software, and I don't have any. I already have reference images of how I'd like it to look and all the necessary measurements, but I need help getting the model printed somehow. I only have a budget of about $25 USD. submitted by /u/Level-History4437 [link] [comments]”

“The place that makes this one only ships within Brazil. They’re willing to sell me the STL for $75. Would anybody be able to help with printing as I don’t own a 3d printer currently. Any estimate on cost would help! P.S. I know there’s Zombie Tech Gaming but theirs looks more cartoon-ish rather than true gothic. I’m hoping to just get this one printed. submitted by /u/Ok_Constant_8855 [link] [comments]”

“Really happy with this 1st layer, just looking to dial in the last little bit with that weird blemish along the right side edge. Is there some simple setting to catch that rebound blobbing or whatever is happening there? I don't print much figurines or tabletop games simply because I don't have space for those submitted by /u/KpelFFXIV [link] [comments]”

“I changed the walls to three and infill to 33% for durability which pushed the print to nearly three hours, but still a ton of time and filament saved. It does however add a bit of geometry to your print so if it's a functional print make sure that doesn't affect it. That change is shown in the STL and sliced model pictures. Printer is a Flashforge AD5X that I got for $200 in total on Aliexpress. It's a huge step up in print quality and speed compared to my Ender 3 V3 SE (that I got”

“i got the thingy on the side of the hot end, leveled with the paper and the left side is always so thin compared to the right side i'm trying to check whats wrong”

“:) Making sure your bed is fully heated before doing z-calibration and bed leveling makes an enormous difference.”

“I was just gonna us Bambu studio, cut it into a couple pieces first though.”

r/3Dprinting

“He didn't said it needs to be a single mesh. He even said below he plans to cut into multiple pieces to print (something way more recommended). Anyway if you have 2 of more watertight meshes interlocked it prints fine even as a single object. Only if the mesh has holes in the geometry and isn't a solid object (sheets) then it needs fixing but it's a trivial fix that most slicers detect and fix”

r/3Dprinting

“Can't say for sure but I'd bet not. 3D prints require a "watertight mesh" so it can determine what is solid material and what is empty space, while assets made for rendering like this only care about surfaces that you see. On this model, I don't know if they have a solid face at the back of the boar's neck where it mounts against the plate. The plate itself is a second object with a flat surface that the head is sitting in front of.”

r/3Dprinting

“ohh crap!! overpriced, but 3d assets not meant for printing tend to be. The one other option you could do if you are willing to post process is to print it in halves. the ears and tusks are the most complex overhangs, but if the cut runs trough the middle of the face, and you print it with the slice facing the bed, then everything would be on an acceptable angle. there might be gaps to fill as even the smallest warping will cause it, but its workable”

r/3Dprinting

“I normally would do a smaller version, however, in order to print this one it’s 70 bucks for the file. I just wanted to get some information before spending the money so it doesn’t end up being a waste ha ha”

r/3Dprinting

“probably, but the ears needs some risty supports. everything else looks relatively printer friendly. Rule of thumb is, if in doubt, print a smaller version”

r/3Dprinting

“It may need some tweaks fist. It’s clearly made to look nice in renders with smooth shading, but will have a low poly look if it’s printed large.”

r/3Dprinting

“Open/import into blender, export it to STL, and it should be easy to print, orient it upwards”
